Something something 9950X in a week

    • AMD has officially confirmed that the 9000 series without X3D will not perform better in gaming than the 7000 series X3D processors.

      • +14

Yeah but if you're after a 7950X3D then you're after multithreaded performance too, which is where a 9950X will probably be about 20% faster. Gaming performance might be slower but the gap should be much smaller.

        • +4

I'm holding on to my Intel Pentium 133MHz + 4090 combo. Not buying shit until the 11800X3D is out!

      • is that because they want to clear current stock with minimal discount?

    • +5

I have a feeling that will be a quite a bit more expensive.

    • +2

120W processor though, the 7950X3D can be put in some really small ITX cases with upper mid range cooling and even some low profile ones without issue.

      I know, I got one!

      9950X = 170W IIRC.

      Waiting for 7950X3D

      • +2

        Waiting for 9950X3D you mean?
I'm still on my 5900x, will probably have a new build with 9 series and see what the new gpus are like

        • Yeah 9950X3D. Your system would be pretty good and hard to just go and replace.

  • +1

Thanks OP, also paired with 3.5% off from my health insurer for more savings.
Upgrading from a 7700, improved gaming performance and productivity for some of the photo editing work i do

  • +9

Just a PSA, these aren't worth paying up for if you're using it gaming purposes, you're better off just getting a 7800X3D for cheaper.

    • Where are you getting the price on the 7800X3D less then that? PCCG have it for $599, can grab the 7900X3D for 511 in this deal

      • +8

        7800X3D > 7900X3D for games

    • +2

Kind of old news, the 7950x3d in its current guise with the latest BIOS is actually quicker then the 7800x3d if setup correctly. But yes for gaming 95% of users should get the single CCD chip.

      • Can you give me some more info on this/something to read? been out of hardware since I built the last PC and just looking at things now.

Would I be an idiot to buy this 7900X3D?

          https://www.techspot.com/review/2821-amd-ryzen-7800x3d-7900x…

7800X3D unless you need the others for work, 7500F/7600/7600K if you arent using a GPU above 7800XT/4070S/6800XT/3080.
          5700X3D if using AM4.

          • @Highalchemy: Idk even at the end they both average out the same fps with all their tested games together.

          • @Highalchemy: Thanks for that.

seems the fps loss between the two is pretty minor at 13fps over all their tested games, and the 7900x3d actualy being better in the game I play most of (cs2)

I guess the smart thing to do is wait for a discount on the 7800x3d, but given this deal puts the 7900x3d ~$80 cheaper then the best aval price on the 7800 makes it more tempting

  • finally I will be able to run 16 minesweeper instances and the performance will be crazy due to the 3d cache, my wet dream has come true!!1

    • I hope you meant just your normal dreams…
