AMD has officially confirmed that the 9000 series without X3D will not perform better in gaming than the 7000 series X3D processors.
Yeah but if you're after a 7950X3D then you're after multithreaded performance too, which is where a 9950X will probably be about 20% faster. Gaming performance might be slower but the gap should be much smaller.

120W processor though, the 7950X3D can be put in some really small ITX cases with upper mid range cooling and even some low profile ones without issue.

Kind of old news, the 7950x3d in its current guise with the latest BIOS is actually quicker then the 7800x3d if setup correctly. But yes for gaming 95% of users should get the single CCD chip.

7800X3D unless you need the others for work, 7500F/7600/7600K if you arent using a GPU above 7800XT/4070S/6800XT/3080.
5700X3D if using AM4.

seems the fps loss between the two is pretty minor at 13fps over all their tested games, and the 7900x3d actualy being better in the game I play most of (cs2)
I guess the smart thing to do is wait for a discount on the 7800x3d, but given this deal puts the 7900x3d ~$80 cheaper then the best aval price on the 7800 makes it more tempting

It’s still a great CPU but the reason why it isn’t looked at over the 7800X3D for gaming (even with price parity) is because the 3D cache is only in 6 of the 12 cores, whereby it’s in 8 of 8 for the 7800X3D.
