  • This actually looks great for $30 delivered? Been meaning to replace my old a129 that’s been wigging out lately.

    • Viofo A129?

      • Yea, though now I think about it might be the even older one, definitely a viofo

        • +1

Definitely old I am on A229 and there is a newer A339 or something.

Viofo though hands down for me.

          • @Warlock: any difference between the newer models

mine starts to randomly and rapidly beep like an alarm going off for no reason. freaking me out in the middle of a drive

            might need to replace it

            • @furythree:

mine starts to randomly and rapidly beep like an alarm going off for no reason.

if that happens to me I assume the electronic thing is trying to tell me something.

  • +1

Thanks picked one up. Requires an additional adaptor to connect to battery - $20.99.

    Good deal.

    • Not sure that kit is needed. Their listing shows cabling included. I could be wrong.

      • +2

They are talking about for 24 hour parking monitor support, the lighter port won't support it.

      • fyi the 4K one from amazon I posted mentions the same thing in marketing that parking monitor is a feature. but it's not available without the additional wire kit.

    • Link please?

      • Did u get it, looking for it aswell?

  • +14

It's important to note this isn't true 4K but instead interpolated as the resolution is 2880x2160. It'll record at that resolution and stretch out to 4K during playback.

    • is 2880x2160.

hmm you are right, but isn't 2160p = 4K? I think it's just the horizontal pixels for 4K is 3840.
so.. when stretched out those pixels won't be square anymore? that might become a problem with reading numberplates.

      • 2160p on its own isn't 4K. You need to have the 3840p to be 4K. Hence why 2880x2160 isn't.

        • I thought 2160p is 4K UHD. kind of like 1080p is HD they mention just the smaller number.

so 2880 pixels stretched out to 3840 pixels means stretched pixels that aren't square. tbh it sounds very very bad for image quality.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: You're learning a lot in all these posts this week. Resolutions have both horizontal and vertical. You can casually say UHD or 2160p is "4K" but that's only if the other part of the resolution is 3840 or 4096. In fact you can even 4096x1716 as for 4K.

so 2880 pixels stretched out to 3840 pixels means stretched pixels that aren't square. tbh it sounds very very bad for image quality.

Yes we call it "interpolated 4K". You can buy a lot of cheap Chinese action cams and dashcams that advertise "4K" and this is what they have. Azdome advertise the true resolution in their listing so they can't be done for being "misleading" if someone was to do a dispute.

            • @Clear: ok so it's the bigger number that matters not the smaller number got it.
just confusing as hell because once I was told QHD = 1440p. and I already knew 1080p is HD. so logically 4K (which is 3840x2160) would be 2160p with twice as many pixel numbers as HD (1920x1080).

              • @harshbdmmaster718: 1080p (1920x1080) is Full HD, 720p (1280x720) is HD . so QHD is indeed quad or 4x HD if you stack them in a box.
just as UHD/4k (3840x2160) is 4x Full HD if you stack em up.
                Pixels man

Is there a deal for one with a dual cam, one for the rear?

    • +1

      Buy two!

      • If I could power one off the other, I might consider it.

        • Double usb port?

    • +3

      So kinky.

      • yes I was waiting for this comment

  • Theyre having a system issue where they cant add gift cards.

  • Can I connect it to my existing rear cam?

    • What cam is that? AZ Dome?
Likelyno. There is no camera connection standard. All pairings are bespoke.

  • Thanks, got one. Can't get a second as only 1 coupon per eBay plus account

  • Can you use it as a rear camera? Already have a front with different brand

    • +1

Yeah, as independent camera but will need to find a separate power source for it.

      • Dumb question: wouldn't all rear cameras need a separate power source, even those cameras which come in a front/rear bundle? How would you ever power a rear camera from a front one?

        • +1

          Currently using A129 duo
Wiring goes: power > front cam > rear cam

          • @jp1011: Are there advantages to that wiring pattern? Wouldn't it be easier to find a different power source at the back of the vehicle, and power the rear cam from there?

            • @ferguscan: Instant data transfer. Only needing 1 SD card. If you have a hardwiring kit it they link up directly to the battery which is at the front of the vehicle and allows 24/7 operation.

            • @ferguscan: Main advantage I can see is the 2 cameras talk to each other so all files get saved onto 1 SD card instead of 1 each.
Also helps with syncing up footage.

Wiring would definitely be easier if powering the back cam off a cigarette plug in the boot, but
              1. am using hardwire kit so need to run to fusebox in the front anyway
              2. on my car (cx-5) running the wire through the middle was pretty easy, the hard part was getting up into the tailgate which you'd still need to do with separate rear power source

              • +1

@jp1011: It seems like a 2-camera kit is better because:

                • The two cameras share storage
                • They share battery backup
                • They share a single LCD screen

As a result, the rear camera can be small, which is probably what you want (a large rear camera would look goofy, and reduce visibility).

That really clears things up, thanks everyone.

    • +1

That's exactly how I will be using it.

    • You can, downside is that you can’t access the “save” button easily, but with a large SDCard it shouldn’t really matter.

  • how is this one compared to popular Viofo a119v3 ?

  • +1

Thanks OP. Buy now, think later!

  • What advantage do these have over the dirt cheap AliExpress dashcams? Just expected reliability?

    • +9

      Which I could also afford

    • +2

You'll have to provide links otherwise how else would we know?

      • +1

Exactly.. AliExpress is worst… They say customer support, may be customer support directly handle by suppliers. they should rename it Supplier support, not customer support.

        • +1

aliexpress is a marketplace just like ebay but in another country.

most of those "stores" aren't suppliers, they are sellers. even the ones called XXXXX Official store, the seller just chose to name it that way.
just 1 or 2 people that buy stuff cheap in bulk, and sell at higher price.

I read another comment complaining about purchasing from the official store and not getting any support. then they contacted the actual chinese brand company and they said they have nothing to do with the aliexpress store and they are not a official supplier.

  • Not ebay plus only get the normal July 15% off

  • Unfortunately, this code no longer works. Please continue with your order.

  • Voucher does not work anymore

  • Thanks OP! Ordered one. Don't know why.

  • Just missed it. Damn, still $60 free postage without eBay plus. Is it any good?

    • +1

It comes down to just under $48 shipped using TJULY15 coupon.

I just ordered one myself, no ebayplus required.

  • Got one. Is this any good compared to the previous 70mai deal on aliexpress?

  • +2

I wonder how UV proof this one is in the Aussie sun. Plastic looks somehow a bit melty.
Fortunately the picture shows me it is the choice of Porsche owners. I am suitable impressed and relieved

  • Mini USB??

    • +1

The cable is USB A to your car charger, the mini USB connection is largely irrelevant because it plugs into the dash cam.

      • Just hoping the supplied cable is long enough to snake around. I just bought a 5m Micro USB cable for my existing dashcam to use with a new car charger before this deal popped up.

  • +1

Does this work while driving just plugged into cigarette lighter?

    • +1

Yes, it works when you turn your car on, whether driving or not.

  • how long will bulit in super capacitors last, when using it, without connecting External power supply

    • +1

I was told only a few seconds after you turn the car off. just enough time for the camera to write the video file to memroy card.

  • Looking for a starter cam as the wife will start a commute on some busy streets soon in our car. Would this be sufficient or is there another dashcam people are using?

    • +2

depends how serious you are I think.

there is a whole youtube channel community that just puts up all kinds of situations and no actual accidents. for that kind of use it would be fine, like being excited there was a uhoh moment and getting home and uploading it.

but if you are in some seriously complicated accident and you need the evidence to prove what really happened. but you try to access it and the video or memory is corrupted because of a cheap recorder you are going to have a bigger problem.

I looked for cheaper dashcams because I thought $300+ was too much, so I found a 4K one for roughly $130 on amazon which turned out to have a proper 4K resolution sony sensor. I would consider that one over this $30 one from unknown brand AZHOME.
link to the one I found https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/852205

    • +1

also forgot to mention I looked at that camera specifically because it had 64GB eMMC memory built in and no extra spend is needed to buy separate memory.

but one user in that deal mentioned when recording at 4K you only get just over an hour of video. but the idea is to use it on loop mode so it records over the oldest video footage and you can always go back 1 hour in recorded video.

which should be enough after an accident but I did think 64GB would be more than 1 hour of video.

if you want to go back in time more then maybe look at one that supports microSD card for storage.

  • wow 4K $30 price is hard to beat. even though I have no idea what AZDOME is.

  • From Union Lucky Returns - Legit??

  • Mine is onboard for delivery today.

  • Got the camera today
Looks ok.. cant complain for $30

Video downloaded from dashcam to iPhone looks fish eye. Is there anyway to correct this?
    Cheers
