Friends don't let friends buy Masterlock!

    • +7

Unless your friend is the lock picking lawyer

      • +2

It comes with no key but another master lock that you can bash this with to open

  • +9

This lock is straight garbage. Lock picking lawyer has thousands of videos showing how garbage each lock from this company is

    • +9

      Three things…
      * You are correct, Master Lock makes terrible locks
      * Almost all sub-$100 locks are also terrible. Master Lock isn't an outlier, it's just the biggest brand in the cheap locks segment.
      * In 99% of cases there is more insecurity from the thing that the people typically use these locks on. Tool boxes can be lifted and taken away. Padlock bolts are often secured with standard timber screws, etc.

Padlocks are mostly just a deterrent against opportunity crime.

      • yeah most locks are just deterrent only

when thieves are determine to get into your house, they just use a crowbar etc..
even cops just use a battery ram to bust the doors open..

        • +9

What type of batteries? Prob D for something that big.

        • or they will just ram your gate with a stolen car… thats what happened to our industrial warehouse gate was sliding on tracks closed with lock at end then chain and lock around the end … nxt minute- guy in a car just rammed it - car totaled, driver got out moved gate out of the way.

    • isn't this the case entirely for this class of lock? aren't there automated tools that'll do them in seconds?

  • +20

This is the LockPickingLawyer and you're reading this in my voice.

  • +5

Corrosion resistant is a nice feature to have to keep these shiny in the dumpster

    • I thought that was so they don't get rust stains on your favourite sock?

    • +1

      Dumpster? Yeuch. Skip!

  • +1

If this is crap, can anyone please recommend a good brand? Thanks!

    • +12

Just Hawk Tuah and weld that thang

      • +2

        What does that mean

Consider not clicking on this, it might be best only the kids understand this one. Otherwise, you might, like me, weep for the state our youth are living in, in their shared digital spaces in 2024.

@seamonkey: I can't believe this trash found its way here. Really?

            • +1

@Rebsphere: That's kind of the problem. Because the community is diverse with us oldies and the young ones - we think what's important is this kind of stuff and look at today's dumpster fire about political coffee on here. Sad state of affairs. I sometimes unfortunately feel I need to keep up with a certain amount of pop culture, unfortunately, because all my kids are under 11. 😭

              • +2

@seamonkey: That coffee post was a guaranteed train wreck.

                • +3

@rumblytangara: Peak ozbargain was about 6 years back. I don't know where the crowd came from that wanted it to devolve to what will.one day be almost indistinguishable from 4chan. Many genuinely good, funny, helpful people here - but they are slowly being replaced by Twitter circlejerkers. The saddest part for me is I loved the community, the bargains became secondary - the best of the best are leaving, or slowing down and the wealth of knowledge and tireless assistance is disappearing with them. 😭 This meme mentioned above is evidence ozbargain is just moving to another room in the echo chamber.

                  • +1

@seamonkey: Fortunately my various internet idiot filters stopped that meme video from even loading on my browser :)

That coffee post imo was done in bad faith by the OP. It's sad to see someone try to drum up business through conflict.

    • +1

most average thieves are not gonna be picking these locks or any locks..

many just use a crow bar thing like that..

      • Bored high schoolers will be picking these for fun.

        • Bored high schoolers will be picking these for fun.

not gonna happen cos most high schoolers got the attention span of tiktok

    • What do you need it for?

    • +2

If you want something pick proof, you could try a Bowley ROTASERA lock, but if you have something worth stealing, thieves are going to use power tools on the weakest part of your security.

    • Most combination locks are crap. A keyed Abus would be a better start, though they make a wide range of secure to non-secure padlocks as well.

  • +1

You can use these to whack another mastlock to open it.

  • These rust up and the combination doesn't work after a few months

    • +2

We've used a few in pretty harsh environments at work. They've lasted years. I wouldn't trust them for much more than the low value lock boxes we need them for, but longevity doesn't seem to be their problem.

Thumbs up for not linking to the LockpickingLawyer.

    • Begone, simple man!

    • I see a -7 from a negger and get satisfaction removing that neg by making it a -8.

I too, am a simple man.

    great lock for my safe

  • Pops open with two spanners. Honestly, I think unlocked would be more safe than using this.

    • +2

Most padlocks will pop open with two spanners

    • +1

Doesn't come in a pack with 2 spanners though, you need to remember the combination.

  • No deal. You need to buy a second one just so you can use it to open the first.

  • Back in stock again
