$429 for a PS4 is a joke. $249 is a joke too, just less funny.

EDIT: I just noticed it's not the Pro. Is this a prank?

    • +4

Very reasonable price mate when u actually know/look at the market. Despite your personal opinions.
Not hard to sell one used that’s 7 years old for $150. So an extra $100 is well worth a brand new one. Despite it being an old released machine. A lot of families in that lower price point would much buy this then for out more. I’ve noticed if a console is around $300 it tends to sell easier than one that is closer to $400 despite its huge differences in the slightly more expensive one. Market is market and you can’t ignore figures ;)

  • In box, collectible….

    • lol, i still got my ps3 slim 500gb packed in box and don't know what to do about it …

      • There are definitely better places to put your money, but some in box consoles 10-20 years on sell for a fortune

  • Still works if you are not looking for 1080p up or 60fps up.

    But not recommended.

  • +1

    Don’t buy, PS5 pro coming!

  • +1

got a ps4 re release before GTA 6

  • +2

WHY PS4 WHEN YOU HAVE PS5?

    • +3

      PS5 is ~$749

(with disc that can also play PS4 games)

      • Ps5 is $505, with Spiderman 2, if you got it at the end of last year.

    • +2

      BECAUSE PRICE DIFFERENCE?

    • +1

      I have PS3

      • Me too. Haven’t really played it since they shut down the gta online though :(

  • +2

This was the price 7 years ago..

  • +1

    HODL

  • +3

I swear everyone has ps4 somewhere they just don’t know it.

    • I've never owned a Playstadium of any generation.

      • +3

Check under your bed or your freezer. There will be one hiding somewhere

      • Have one of mine, there you go instant ownership.

  • $249 for a display. Why not

  • This brings back memories of randomly seeing a PS1 in the K-Mart catalogue back in 2004 or 2005 and begging my mum to get it, only to be disappointed when the local K-Mart was out of stock 😭 Hopefully a kid out there in the same situation I was in ends up being luckier than me lol

  • +2

Not really worth it, you can get a stock basic ps4 for like $100 (often with games) on the used market. Obviously not going to be as nice as a new system but the price differential isn’t justified for me.

    • Seem a PS4 pro for $100 - $200.

  • Geez they are still around lolz

  • sell if with firmware 7.5 and ill buy it thanks

    • Have you heard the news that Firmware up to 11.00 is now tinkerable? Happened last month.

  • I’m still trying to replace a broken DualShock 4 controller … new ones are still holding their retail price, with Best case mid $70-ish in recent times 🤦‍♂️

    • Buy a used console on gumtree with 2 or 3 controllers. Gets you a spare console too

  • Why would anybody buy this still? Ps5 has been out for ages? Legit question (other than money constraints)

    • +4

keep the kids entertained maybe? i remember my dad brought home an atari 2600 when i was a young kid in the early 90's, no idea where he got it from and i didnt know or care that it was 10+ years old i still had a lot of fun with it.

      • +1

Don't know what generation you are, but growing up as children we DEFINITELY knew the difference between a PlayStation and Sega Saturn. And the difference was having fun, with others, or playing reject clearance games by yourself.

Don't know how that's relevant but there you go, that's my story with a start, middle and end. Have a nice day.

        • +1

This made me laugh because back in the day I got a Sega Saturn literally at The Reject Shop. That was a great 2 weeks of clearance games before it unceremoniously died. By then it was sadly sold out so could not exchange.. got a refund. Later on got a PS2 instead.

    • +1

for small kids to play something, and not scared of the console / controller getting rekt

    • +2

$249 + Essentials PS sub, thats still a decent library to play with as an entry point to gaming.

  • +1

I had no idea these are still sold

  • +1

I still have my free ps4 from a Sony TV purchase 10years ago! Both still working fine

  • +3

lol 10 year old obsolete tech. Any deals on Geforce GTX960?

    • +6

They are still making PS4 games (and evidently PS4 consoles), so far from being obsolete.

There are very few PS5 exclusive games. And there are people out there that don't want to spend $600+ for a new PS5 for whatever reason.

      • How can the latest games run on ancient PS4 hardware though, when the latest games won't run on a Geforce 900 series which is from the same era? And why would anyone get a PS5 if you can run current games on a PS4?

        • You can’t directly compare pc tech with console on compatibilities… as long as a console generation is not marked as end of life by the maker game devs will port the game to the platform.
The games will ofcourse run at reduced graphically enhanced features due to hardware limitations.
It is easier to port a game one generation back compared to 5 generations (gtx 900-rtx4000) and game devs won’t bother as pc hardware progresses way too fast and it is alot of cost for them to ensure games work on older gen cards which isn’t worth it.

          • @kaleidoscope: My last question though - if you can buy Diablo 4 and run it on your PS4 why would you pay so much more for a PS5?

            • @Mondorock:

The games will ofcourse run at reduced graphically enhanced features due to hardware limitations.

End of the day it’s upto you to decide what you’re after in terms of gaming experience. I personally would prefer really fast loading and better graphics with +$300 spend and it’ll last half a decade compared to pc tech

              • @kaleidoscope: Yes, but the reduction/increase in graphics quality will vary depending on the title. Hence why I gave the example of Diablo 4, a title with relatively low system requirements (it'll run on a 12 year old Geforce 600-series, and on high quality on a 900-series). So unlikely that a PS5 will offer much of an increase in graphics quality over a PS4.

      • +1

Sony isn't making PS4 consoles any more. The last batch of PS4 consoles which Sony made was back in 2022 (last million PS4 consoles ever to be made). However there was no word that any more than that was made after the year 2022. So this is now discontinued. It's most likely some consoles from the 2022 batch.

    On reflection / old invoices:
$269 in 2018 on Amazon, with free SpiderMan game plus upsized cashback.
    Wild.

  • +1

    Base PS4 still isn't 199 yet?

  • +1

Tempting… ps4 used games are cheap on EB and ebay

  • What headphone is in the box?

    • Just your garden variety $2 hard-plastic earbuds with a clip-on mic on the wire. Think it's a single earbud too, just meant for voice chat while playing.

  • Thanks for the info, I had playstation all way up to ps3, then switch to xbox, 3ds and switch. I am considering switch back to playstation. if I buy this, most likely I will swap out the HDD to SSD, total investment will be around $350, I think I'd better to wait for PS5 pro or PS5 on another special.

  • +4

Great deal! Most of the best 1st party PS5 games are still playable on PS4 anyway (like God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Spider-Man 1 and Miles Morales, Last of Us 1/2, all Uncharted games, Sack Boy, Astro Bot, etc.) even after 4 years of PS5. Particularly if you don’t have a 4K TV, you’ll barely even notice the difference.

  • Is this the console developers struggled to make games for because it was too hard to program for? I've lost track.

    • +1

I believe you’re referring to either the PS3 or Sega Saturn. Released 2006 and 1995 (resp.) in most regions.
