My honest review of the WeberQ 3200 after using it a few times a week for close to 10 years - it's an outdoor oven with a bbq option.

Roast lamb, or chicken are great. Roast pork I find it difficult to get crackling compared to fan forced ovens. Chops, steaks and snags are easy. Everything gets a WeberQ smokey flavour, you actually get bored of the smokey taste.

It's super high maintenance, the lid gets brown on the sides after years of use. The drip tray is like a Weber subscription. Grease doesn't seem to drip down into the tray properly.

The grills plates are easily chipped and start rusting immediately. I had them replaced 3 or 4 times in 10 years under Weber warranty.

In reality it's a hard bbq to keep clean but its better than wrecking your indoor oven and making your house smell like roast lamb.

Have an upvote. You're spot on. Its not really a BBQ by design that you flame frill meats on, it simply doesnt put out enough flame. Its designed to be heated up for half an hour before cooking, with lid down, throwing in your meats and closing the lid to get a slight grill and roast effect.

Fair point don't know why you got down voted. I'll upvote for ya😜

There's nothing stopping you from using generic aluminium trays from Bunnings (which are cheaper), instead of the Weber ones.

      • just line the tray with some alu foil if you want cheap cheap

What's the difference between this and the Gen 3? This is a great price for sure but would I be kicking myself later for not considering the latest model.

    • +1

New model just has a higher domed lid and a slightly more powerful burner.

New one also has a different cart but I reckon this ine is better coz it has larger wheels. The new one has office chair wheels that wint roll over pavers very well.

      • Does the better burner turn the gen 3 into more of a bbq than an oven, like the op said?

        • Potentially it does. The new one has an extra 1,000 mj and gets to 350c. I couldn't see a top temp listed for this one.

I only just got the 2800N+ and I plan to use it like an oven but haven't yet. It is rated at 19 MJ and 315c. It gets to 400c during warm up without the oven tray in.

        • Imo yes, I have recently bought a 3200n and it gets ripping hot if you preheat with the lid down for 5-10mins. Remember though that webers by nature/design are lid down cookers. I've used it exclusively so far to cook regular bbq items and it works great. Preheat, throw whatever you want on, close lid, and flip turn as needed only opening lid to check/turn food. If you want the traditional wide open lid standover the bbq experience the 3200n can do it but you'd be missing the point. They however shine as roasters and the new +burner can be run stand alone for low and slow I'm told, though I have yet to see what temps it produces.

      • I see what you mean about the wheels also, wtf were they thinking,..
The gen3 would still fit on the old cart I reckon

  • I bought this two years back for A$679.20. Also posted the deal at that time

    Best BBQ ever.

  • I’ve never understood the popularity of the Weber Q series, maybe if you are taking it in the car to parks and camp sites all of the time I can understand the appeal, but if it essentially just sits in your backyard and doesn’t move I don’t. I bought my Weber Genesis E-330 for around $1310 brand new 8 years ago (before Weber had all of their own stores around the place and used camping/outdoor stores and indoor and outdoor heating retailers etc as the main sellers of their products branding them as official authorised resellers of their products), and it’s still in good condition and going strong, it’s definitely a quality BBQ… It gets up to 400 degrees celsius (even possibly higher I haven’t measured it beyond 400), a bit less if you want to cook with the lid open but the temperature is still quite high, it’s perfect for the majority of things you want to cook on a BBQ including quality cuts of steak.

I walked into a Weber store recently and thought pretty much all of the new current models looked pretty cheap looking, and to add insult to injury, the stainless steel
on their floor models were all scratched up and made them look even lower quality and that they can be damaged easily. As much as I love my Weber Genesis E-330 LPG BBQ, when it finally bites the dust I don’t think I’ll buy another Weber based on my recent visit to a Weber store… I also own a Kamado Joe charcoal BBQ (both BBQs are on my apartment balcony), I think I’ll just exclusively use the Kamado Joe when the Weber Genesis E-330 dies. My father owns a Ziegler and Brown Turbo Elite 5 burner BBQ, I wouldn’t buy one of those either.

      What would you recommend then…
OzB is full of whiners that can't recommend better alternatives.

      • Until I am in the market for a new LPG BBQ and do my research I can’t tell you, but I do know how I feel about current models from both Weber and Ziegler & Brown.

    • +3

You kinda explained the popularity of these - they are small, portable and $600 cheaper.

      • @BigTacoBandit - I used to work for a camping and outdoor retailer not long before Covid. What’s the appeal of the Weber Q being small and portable for the majority of buyers making them so popular? A large percentage of the Australian population don’t go camping, so I’m confident that the majority of people that buy the Weber Q series aren’t using them for camping purposes (some people that are heavily invested in camping as a hobby have expensive camper and caravans reducing the need for a Weber Q). I currently work for a council, and it’s prohibited to take portable BBQs to many parks, so that’s out for many Weber Q buyers. So that essentially leaves renters that can’t secure long term leases and move around a lot… If you own a large TV such as a 65” a 77” or a 85” model, and other large bits of furniture and household items, then moving a non portable BBQ shouldn’t pose a problem when you move. If none of those describes you, and the BBQ essentially sits on your balcony or in your backyard all of the time, then again what’s the major appeal of having a portable BBQ?

The most expensive Weber Q models are commonly in the $900 range. As I said I paid just over $1300 brand new for my Weber Genesis E-330 in mid 2016 (and it’s still in good condition going strong), which is vastly superior with regards to both cooking and build quality compared to the Weber Q models, and most certainly was worth a measly extra several hundred dollars more than the inferior Q models.

        • After so much reading, still waiting on the recommendation…..

          • +1

@jdreamer: Which I already answered. Besides I’m here to spoon feed you or anyone else, as an owner of a previous Weber Genesis model I gave my view that I probably wouldn’t buy another Weber at least for the current range because their build quality appears to have declined, beyond that do your own research, just as I would be doing if I was in the market for a new LPG BBQ.

        • I guess you should have asked the people buying them when you were working in the camping store.

Price, lets just say price. This one is almost half the price of yours.

          • @BigTacoBandit: How people are using them would a be more of a question for the people who are buying them from other retailers that aren’t camping and outdoor retailers, such as the Weber store, The Good Guys, Myer, Harvey Norman etc..

Half the price, for a vastly inferior product in comparison. There is no disputing that the Weber Genesis E-330 BBQ model I own is superior to the Weber Q BBQ that you own. It’s the old story, you get what you pay for…

            • @[Deactivated]: I have a small outdoor area and didnt need a huge grill area so couldnt justify $1800 for a genesis BBQ. Its also nice to have the option of taking the weber camping. It ticked my boxes.

I also think its more aesthetically pleasing when its not being used.

              • -4

@BigTacoBandit: “More aesthetically pleasing” - My god men in 2024 have become so much more like women… It’s a fooking BBQ. Men should care far more about the performance of a BBQ rather than what it looks like. But OK, I’ll humour your comment, I don’t know how you can say with a straight face that the Weber Q series (which is ugly and cheap looking in my opinion) is more aesthetically pleasing that this:

                https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P3g3v2Q58zM

How often/many times have you taken your Weber Q camping? So you picked an inferior BBQ partly for a feature just in case?

You sound more like a casual BBQ cook, for myself on the other hand cooking on my Weber Genesis and Kamado Joe BBQs are hobbies of mine. I have a small outdoor area too, but have still managed to easily fit a Weber Genesis E-330 gas BBQ and Kamado Joe Classic charcoal BBQ on my apartment balcony, plus an outdoor table and chairs and an outdoor heater.

That’s fine the Weber Q-Series works for you, but it has been foolish of you to try to argue the merits of the Weber Q against the Weber Genesis model that I own or the Weber Genesis series in general, and quite honestly I’m not sure what your objective has been by attempting to do so? At the end of the day I gave my opinion which is based on owning a Weber superior to the Q series for 8 years, and I don’t see a good reason why you needed to respond to my original comment at all.

                • +2

@[Deactivated]: Geezus mate calm it down - you asked why people buy them and I mentioned three reasons. You seem to have taken it as a personal insult.

Im glad you take your hobby seriously. I just BBQ casually so haven't tried to argue the merits of anything just that my bbq did what i needed it to.

Good luck on your hunt for a new one.

                  • -3

@BigTacoBandit: I didn’t take it as an insult whatsoever, you brought up aesthetics, so I merely told you what I thought about that.

I didn’t ask at all, it was simply a rhetorical question that certainly can’t be answered by the small number of people on OzBargain who have bought Weber Q BBQs because they can’t possibly speak for the majority of Weber Q customers/owners and how they use their Weber Q BBQs.

man ive just sold my bbq and was thinking about getting a 3200+… but this thread has got me depressed and confused.

    • +1

its a good bbq for the price, you probably wouldn't get anything better for $699. Anything at Bunnings is junk, this will outlast nearly all of them.

A better gas BBQ than this will be twice the price.

      • -1

@peep20011 - There’s at least one BBQ Bunnings sell that’s not junk, that’s also portable, it’s $699, and it will do a better job at cooking meat than the Weber Q series, which is the Kamado Joe Junior, it is a charcoal not gas BBQ though:

        https://www.bunnings.com.au/kamado-joe-13-5-inch-joe-junior_…

      • Thanks for input… $699, so you recommending just going for the 2nd gen rather than paying $200 more for the newer 3rd gen? I think I agree as the extra features are not that appealing for someone that probably will only use it once a week, if that. And need to get weber rotisserie accessory which will jack the 2nd jack up the price on 2nd gen to 918 anyway. Might just pull the trigger.

  • I just want to know what would be a good BBQ….There is soo much junk out there, Weber looks reasonable but the price is astronomical…Beefeater has a good rep and are cheaper than Weber, but are they too junk these days?

  • Owner of a Q3200 since 2009. Still a powerhouse going strong.

Grills are SOLID. Clean post cook and a 1/2 yearly full clean and you're laughing.

Button ignition is bust so I use the dedicated lighting hole with an extension lighter.

During the time I've had mine a mate has bought 3 different sets including a beefeater - the Webber still makes better food.

Just my experience. I will 100% be getting another one when this one eventually dies.

  • weber have certainly gone down in terms of quality but the Q's are still solid & last. The original Q's are heavier through better materials IMO the later ones don;t hold the heat as well due to lighter / cheaper materials. The newer grills are enamel coated the older ones were cast iron, the enamel coating does provide better non stick. People complaining about cleaning, for a deep clean remove the grills & burner tube & hit it with a pressure washer & watch it come up clean, for a usual clean weber recommend turning up full heat immediately after the cook, lid down for 30 minutes which burns off most of the mess then wipe down.
