I think this was around $2600 a couple weeks ago. I was very tempted to upgrade from my a7iii but the a7iv was released in 2021 and the mark v should be released sometime next year.

I reckon there might be a new model soon-ish, given that this was released Dec 2021.

    • Its a pretty good all round camera but came about before the AI chip in the A7R5 that helps with Subject Autofocus and tracking.
I suspect they will release a version 5 sometime soon with the AI chip incorporated

it is. i had it for a few months during my transition to Sony FF system but sold it for the A7C2. Happy with my decision but i think the AI chip is marginal gains at best. I wouldn't factor that in my decision. However, given that a new version is coming soon, I'd say wait for the 5; will be within 12 months.

        • Other than the additional subject detection and improved tracking and hopefully focus stacking, I'm not sure what else they can add to a new a7v. I can't image they would use a stacked sensor, but I would be a buyer if they did.

  • grabbed one for my daughter thx

  • I see deals for this camera posted regularly so I'm curious, is this predominantly good for stills/video? Is it better than a gopro in terms of fast action video?

    • +1

Its a good hybrid for both and reasonable for Noise at Higher ISOs 3200/6400. Much better than than a bigger MP camera.
You cant beat a gopro for action video though - with ease of use and high frame rate.

    • GoPro is a pure action cam, image quality is not great but in perfect lighting you might get some good shots. The A74 is a great hybrid camera, it has 10 bit color in video, and can shoot 4k60 in crop mode though, but most of the time I'm shooting 4k24. Photos have good resolution. 2 completely different use cases, I think in most cases I'd take the A74, but I'm 40+ years old so my life doesnt have much action in it lol.
If you need durability then the GoPro is a better option, if you need/want better image quality then no doubt the A74.
