the new iphone 16 comes out in about 2 months time.

    • +3

Yeah, according to iphone release history over years, there's a good chance it's going to be the second half of September 2024.

Worth mentioning this iphone pro already has USB-C and is going to work with Apple's new AI. Non-pro iphones seemingly 15 won't be.

    • +6

Been holding out for the 16, but this is ~20% off with the OW PB, and aside from a marginally bigger battery and maybe a slightly brighter screen, there's not a huge amount of other stuff that's making me think it's worth waiting - https://www.macrumors.com/roundup/iphone-16-pro/

      • Yea, had the 13 14 and 15 pro on launch day. 15 pro was probably the most refined and i’d settle for this and probs wont upgrade this year. Nice curved edges and most importantly usb-c.

        • True@AH

        • last year was the 1st time i didn't buy on launch as it was too similar to the 14 other then the usb-c which isn't a big deal for me. but most likely get the 16 and probably start buying every even number phone, 16, 18, 20, etc…
pretty much peaked now, and only marginally better than the previous model.

            @Hugh G Rection: I am gonna for 15,17,19

          • @Hugh G Rection: The system used to be that alternating years there were new designs (with minor tech changes) and then tech improvements (with minor design changes), so there were: iPhone 4 and 4s (the following year), 5 and 5s. 6 and 6s. And that's it.

            That was a decent system.

            • -1

@pizzaguy: now its just the even and odds. even is new, odd would be the s model.
              14 and 15, 16 and 17, 18 and 19.

            • +1

              @pizzaguy: Totally Agree

          • @Hugh G Rection: I had pixel 6 pro, now using pixel 8 pro, gonns go for 10 pro, 12 pro and 14 pro.

      • I see it as a refined iPhone 15 Pro, a model that lots of folks skipped so expect more sales of the 16 series. If you can hold out another 2 months, why not. But yeah… 20% off isn’t bad for an iPhone.

        • -1

i rather pay 20% more for the latest and greatest. i would only buy old one for 40% off, maybe 30%, but 20% i just consider tax, lol. so i would just wait and buy the new one.

          • +1

            @Hugh G Rection: That’s what I’m doing… 2 months ain’t far away, if it were 6 months and I really needed an upgrade… sure.

      • Widely rumoured to have 48mp ultrawide camera, improved main cam and lens coating to reduce glare if you care about camera quality. and A18 pro which is likely to focus on the npu..

Otherwise I agree it is not a huge jump. I skipped 15 PM and bought S24U instead so maybe i will go for the 16PM

      • Plus it's rumoured to allow the user to upgrade the battery and fix the screen themselves using modular parts

        • Plus an additional year of support compared to 15 series :)

    • Okay and? The 16 Pro Max 256GB will cost more than this deal on release so I don't see your point

  • Kogan’s selling it for $1929 so can they PB Kogan as welll?

  • +8

The price of top of the line new Iphones now aday. So bloody ridiculous.

    • +5

      not only iPhones tbf

      • Can get plenty of great phones for less than half the price of an iPhone. Can't believe the muppets that line up outside Apple stores to get one.

        • iPhones are great for those (already) in the Apple ecosystem.

          • +3

@sridhar: Yes totally agree but you can bet most people don't actually need the latest and greatest iPhone, since all they do is phone, text or take selfies to go on Instagram and Tik Tok. Can do that with an older phone too.

            • @khrome: i am a happy iphone user, still happy with iphone xs from 2020. these phones do last longer than others, however not sure why people upgrade every year or two (maybe tax deductions).

              • @Adelta: I think it's more a status thing. Look at me, I've got the latest iPhone. There's a lot of that around these days.

                • @khrome:

There's a lot of that around these days.

                  Which high school is that?

Also "these days"? Mobile phones have been available to kids and an item to brag about for, like, 25 years.

                  • @pizzaguy: Sorry to get my timing wrong. It's even more prevalent now in the times of influencers and the like. Pretty sure social media wasn't such a big thing 25 years ago.

It’s not just iPhones mate. Samsung is pumping out $2K plus phones just as fast. Motorola has even crept up to $1.7K for their new Razr 50. Pixel Pro at $1.7K. Asus gaming phones are $2K. I’m sure I’ve missed some, but you get the point. Outside of these top brands, you got your budget picks but if your talking “top of the line”, Apple ain’t necessarily most expensive anymore. But knowing the track record of Apple software support, you can bank on that $2K going further than their competitors.

      • +1

yes all phone manufacturers have jacked up prices, partly due to our weak dollar, supply chain cost increases and capitalistic greed.

Apple's software support whilst great is no longer the longest now given than both Google and Samsung had promised 7 years. However it remains to be seen how good they will be 3 or 4 years from now for the current P8P amd S24 series.

      • While it's true that the MSRP for Androids are now also extremely high, you constantly see deals with huge discounts, especially with pre-order bonuses or $0 with phone plan deals.

        • +2

While what you said is true, their reselling value is also low…

    • They're not ridiculous at all. The highest end products do not need to be affordable to most people. There are significantly cheaper phones that will do the job for people like you who find phones at this price range ridiculous. This is a Pro Max, you don't need a Pro Max, but to those that want or need it, it's great that it exists. This isn't an Apple thing either, I have no problems with the price of Galaxy S24 Ultra or Pixel 8 Pro either.

Is Apple doing this because they know the CPU in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will not be fast enough to handle the upcoming full AI functionality?

    • Apple doing what?

Iphones 15 Pro are going to support the AI.

And this is Amazon selling iphones here, not Apple. It's quite a regular thing sellers mark these down just before the new model arrives, which is probably in September.

    • +1

The lower models likely can handle the AI but are doing it to have some functionality separation between the higher and lower models.

  • +2

Still a good price although not as good as price beating Costco (OOS now). Don't forget to pay by Ultimate GCs and register for Onepass free trial so when you scan Flybuys card, you get 5x points (another $40-$50 back to use at Coles).

  • Have been holding my 11 pro for years and been eyeing on the iphone 16 pro. However the 15pro deals this past few weeks have been really good. Now Im getting confused on either cheaper 15 pro or the new and expensive 16 pro.

    • +2

      You’ve waited this long… what’s another 2 months.

      • Not sure if the iPhone 16 pro upgrade is worth it compared to the discounted iPhone 15 pro

        • +1

Go for 15 pro for this price

        • If you keep your phone for years, a 20% discount would be relatively trivial amount.

    • I took one of the earlier deals and went from an 11 pro to a 15 pro max @ $1780 using the Officeworks PB - pretty happy with the upgrade and doubt the 16 will have much more to offer

      • As long as you are happy and have no regrets once 16 Pro max is launched :)

    • +2

Wait two months and pick up a lightly used 15 pro for 40% off. A lot of users will dump their phone for a good discount when the new version releases.

  • +2

Ah the SOFY sales are here.

  • Is it worth upgrading from 13promax

    • +1

      No

  • +2

I am one of happy iPhone X user, it is still running superb.

    • What iOS is it operating on it?

      • Internet says it can't go beyond iOS 16.

        • Yes and I still have iOS 14 on my iPhone XS
