AusClimate products are highly rated and they have a sale on one of their dehumidifiers (together with some heaters that I'm not interested in). Add the coupon code for an extra 10% off.

The larger model has previously been on sale at Bunnings/Amazon (~$370), but uses a fair bit more power. So assess if this is the correct size/price/running cost or if you require a desiccant dehumidifier. Comparison Here.

I have one of these and it's actually crazy how much water this gets… I end up with a full tank every day or two.

    • Does it help with mould and musty smells?

      • Don't know about musty smells but it has definetly helped with mould.. We would get black mould in the corners of the bedroom but once we got this we haven't had any issues.

  • Would be great if I had a grow tent for Mexican Tomatoes, whilst it may be a quality product, it's too expensive for me.

How do dehumidifiers work compared to running a split system aircon in terms of power and effectiveness?

    • There's a lot of what ifs to that question. Broadly these use 420W. It's very likely to be a lot less than a split system. It's purpose built to take away water. These work great in smaller closed off rooms. Think standard bedrooms or bathrooms. Great for putting a wet rack of clothes and drying in a few hours for example. Main thing here is you want your room to be >20C. So not great for cold houses in winter. Go for a dessicant type instead fro that situation. Their power inputs start at 1000W. Though they will heat a room.

      • do these help dry towels quicker in a bathroom?

        • Yeah it would definitely help. Put the towels as close to the air output so it's getting the dry air flowing across them. I put mind next the sink and towels are on hooks next to it. Close the door. Let it dry.

      • Thanks. Didn't know about the >20 degrees bit, so good spot - the cold winter house is kind of the issue at hand so will contend with split systems.

  • This reverse cycle portable air conditioner for $499 looks good too for all those renting with no chance of getting a real air con installed
