I believe this is only for Tesla not all EV
“Vehicle information - allows us to see the location of the EV. This is so we only attempt to control the EV's charging when they are at home.”
Hmm I don’t know about you but there is no way I will give an electricity company the authority to be able to monitor second by second the location of my car (and by extension myself) for a $50 gift card. Our privacy is worth more than that. Sure they claim they dont keep the data but take a look at all the data hacks of Optus, MBP etc
Don’t do this otherwise they will have access to your vehicle. And they will start limiting free charging your car only and all other appliances will be on regular tariff.
I have a Tesla on OVO and won't be doing this. Hell nawww!
Same, for a start it’s in your interest to try and charge when it’s cloudy so you lose less fit. Can’t think why I’d go for this.
Why not? Your probably on the OVO EV plan anyway, so pretty sure they know when your plugged in.
No need for me as I use ChargeHQ for setting schedules and excess solar charging.
Because based on what I’ve read will cost me more for electricity, for the reason mentioned above. Right now all my power is free between 11-2.
I was referring more to the tinfoil hat tracking comments, but yes if your usage goes up between 11-2, then they would know your EV is at home charging
@BatmanAU: Or you just run all your appliances between 11am and 2pm?
@zuccs: I’m sure you could, and I’m sure, just like utilising this program, OVO would give zero craps about tracking people.
@zuccs: That’s exactly what we do, especially on cool cloudy days. I’ve cracked out all the old heaters we stopped using, dishwasher and washing goes on, so does the HP hot water. We try and warm up the house and switch everything off at 2. Some days I’ve got 50kwh for free.
@Captain Hindsight: Exactly what we do. Set A/C to 28C to turn the house into a big heat bank, charge EV, laundry/dishwasher/HWS/water distiller/dehumidifier and anything else we can think of.
I think we've done 50kWh as well!
@BatmanAU: Or you heat your water tank, or running a dishwasher, etc.
Tesla mobile charger can work from a normal power point and consume 2.5kWh, less than an electric kettle. As well, if you have solar, it blurres the picture. Even in nights, it is hard to differentiate EV charging from Hot water heater.
With ovo you get 8c charging and free between 11 and 2 arent they then the most optimal times? Or does this try to charge at optimal times for OVO?
OVO was my last supplier and their Demand charge kills every deal..
Don't take it, if you are using ovo, they are going to let you pay way more than $50 back to them .
I’m with OVO and my plan is the cheapest.
I think they are doing this to lock you with OVO, as once other providers do same 8¢, they people tend to switch.
Tesla only
