  • Fantastic find! This just makes all these Dewalt deals even more insanely good.

    And a great first post.

Here come all the tradies buying $3500 worth of tools, claiming it on tax, reselling for a small loss, and pocketing the gift card. Never have I been a bigger advocate for stricter tax laws on sole traders.

    • +2

      20k Instant asset write-offs.

    • +4

If you claim it on tax, you're depreciating the value of the item to $0. If you resell for a value above that, you're liable for capital gains tax.

The laws are fine, it's just good ol tax evasion.

      • +4

Yeh, but name one tradie that will actually follow the law and pay CGT lol

      • You're right. Laws are fine. It's the moral loophole with these things.
I've always wondered why there are so many new tools on sale on Marketplace and Gumtree for cash.

    • You'd think they can't have an instant write off and rather depreciate it over the expected life of the tool(s)?

    • +2

Easy there tiger. You going after the sole traders? The little guys? While the corporations basically run their companies as losses claiming office parties as expenses. The sole traders are only claiming a deduction on their income which is perfectly fine. It is literally what EOFY sales are for.

    • Aren't they only getting back 40 percent. Of the purchase price. Plus gift card.

  • Hope you dont mind, I added a link to this post in my Dewalt deal posts..

    • No worries at all mate, I wasn't even going to post seperately until you suggested it

In case anyone bought one of the DeWalt bundles yesterday before this promo started - I ordered yesterday, click and collect. Hadn't collected from store yet though so called up store and they cancelled the pending order for me. Got cancellation confirmation in around 15 mins and put a new order in just fine.

    • I like the way you think, must be the Scottish in me, lol. All jokes aside, this is a great idea.

    • I order dewalt bundles yesterday online and pick up today, on the invoice (invoice date is 27/6) should I go to return it and buy again? Thanks

      • Just to clarify, you ordered and got charged on the 26th but picked up on the 27th and the invoice date was the 27th?
I rang Bunnings and the person wasn't 100% sure what the invoice date would say but thought it would be the date I was charged, not the date I pick up the item.

  • I was about to post. Bought dewalt 1665 kit, tough system 2.0 4pc kit($275 on promotion) and a sander Orbital (217 no discount but need it for a job).
    Redeemed $400 bunnings gift card + DCS365N-XE - 18V XR 184mm Cordless Sliding Mitre Saw (value $601)
Hope this is a great deal…

  • I bought the $999 kit eligible for $150 gift card but if i get invoice up to $1k its a $200 card. I havent picked it ip yet so wondering if i can add a cheap dewalt accessory and get it cancelled reinvoiced in store? Are accessories eligible eg dewalt drill bit or does it have to be a power tool?

    • +1

You should be able to add anything worth a few bucks from these brands to get you over th $1k mark, DeWalt, AEG, Makita, Bosch, Irwin, Paslode, Kango, Diablo & Sutton.

      T & C's https://www.bunnings.com.au/campaign/redemption-gift-card

    • +1

Was considering the same, but if you get it through powerpass the cost is ~950 with the discount so you need to add another $50 worth of stuff. There is a dewalt torch for around $40 so you can add that plus a saw blade or something.

My local didn't have anything in stock worthwhile so i didnt bother

      • +2

wow you saved me another $50! I had checked earlier via the powerpass app and thought it showed $999 so used onepass instead to pick up some flybuys worth $25?, but on closer inspection ie actually looking at it with glasses on, it is $949! So off to Bunnies tomorrow to annoy them and anyone else standing in the queue behind me.

  • Will click and collect items ordered until the 30th but collected after still be eligible? I can't get into store to pick up until next week

    • That's a good question. I ordered something click and collect yesterday and they sent me a 'customer order' with yesterday's date and said I would get an invoice once the order was fulfilled.

"For your reference a copy of the Order is attached.

A copy of your tax invoice will be available in your PowerPass Account after your order is fulfilled."

I think the key factor will be if the date on the invoice is the day you ordered it or the day you pick it up.

In summary: dunno, lol. but anyone who's done a prior click and collect order will know

      • I see someone up above has said "I order dewalt bundles yesterday online and pick up today, on the invoice (invoice date is 27/6) "
So that doesn't sound promising. I could see Bunnings might honor pick ups after the date but the issue is DeWalt redemptions end on the 30/6 so they won't honor the redemption if invoiced after that date. Bit annoying because Bunnings charge your card the moment you order the C&C but seems they date the invoice when you pick up order.

  • Can you claim gift card if you pay with gift card ?

  • what is required for redeeming the egift card? If we put through a online order, is it quantified for gift card?

    • Need the 20 digit invoice number

  • Just to mention, 'Qualifying Brand(s) Requirements' lists Bosch Blue not Bosch. I added a Bosch spanner to my order to hit the next gift card level. Looks like I'll need to change my order on collection.

    • TIL Bosch make spanners

  • So u can buy 3 smaller items to hit $250 or 1 item for $250?

    • As long as you spend on the qualifying brands all on one transaction it should be fine

  • E gift card valid for anything?

  • What's to stop people getting the gift card then returning the goods for a refund and keeping the card?
