Its at the bottom of the description on Bunnings site. Here is a link for you. https://www.guaranteedtough.com.au/

  • +1

so which one is the best value, $999, $849,$809?

    • +2

They are all fantastic value, but It would be more a case of what tools do you need/want the most and which redemption offer is the best for you.

All three kits have some different tools in them and different redemption offers. For redemption, this has the Toughsystem, the $809 kit has either a radio or a torch and the $999 kit has 2 x 5.0ah batteries.

Eg; for my purposes I would value the rotary hammer and the Toughsystem over the other kits if I was buying one, but your needs may be different.

    good deal
newbie question, is this overkill for the average home DIY?
thinking of getting the ryobi 8 pieces combo kit as a starter kit or should I get this instead?
Aware that Dewalt/Makita etc is targeting a different market segment
Ryobi kit which I am looking at https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-8-piece-kit-r18x8c…

    • -2

i'd rather get a kit with a recip saw than the hammer drill. The normal drill will have a hammer function and suffice for like 99% of DIY stuff.

    • +1

For this price this is fantastic for home DIY, good quality tools will generally be more accurate, stronger and last a hell of a lot longer.

SubNoize below says he'd rather the recip than the hammer drill and I'm exactly the opposite.

I have a double brick house and I've drilled probably hundreds of holes with my SDS drill, whereas my reciprocating saw hasn't had that much use.

For me, my order for tools would be:

Impact driver, drill, SDS drill, circular saw, angle grinder, multi-tool, reciprocating saw, jig saw.

I have heaps of torches and use headphones, so a torch or radio would be low on my list. My dream tool (that I'd never buy) would be an 18V rivet tool or even better a rivet nut tool, but I wouldn't use it enough to ever justify.

Maybe think about what you'll be doing, where you'll be working to work out what to buy.

The storage system is pretty neat, especially if you're transporting your tools regularly or lack storage.

While this is absolute cracker of deal as a starter kit, and is definitely more than up to any task, you have to think of what other tools you may want in the future such as outdoor power tools etc Individual tools from Dewalt are a fair bit more expensive than Ryobi so may not be worth the extra expense for you.

Ryobi make great tools, have a good warranty and are reasonably priced. Ozito is another one that is good for diy as well.

Now that I no longer use my tools for work, my days of tool snobbery are long gone, lol. I have a mix these days. My main tools are Makita from back then, and I have a lot of Ryobi and Ozito as well. The Ryobi and Ozito all do the job, and I just cant justify spending twice as much on a tool that I use less often.

So in a long winded way, the Ryobi kit you linked to is great value and if it has what you want in it, will serve you well and allow you to add to it without great extra expense.

      Hope that helps.

      • +1

I think as well that the Ryobi combo kit isn't brushless - do you think that's a big factor?

I'm very much a newbie myself but have bought brushless makita and dewalt when they've been on a big sale and then ryobi that's been on sale/clearance (too cheap to pass up).

Do you think that buying this dewalt would automatically mean it lasts 10-15 years, whereas the ryobi's might only do 5-10? Or it really is all just a little hit and miss anyway and just a bit on luck of the draw?

        • +3

Brushed or not doesn't matter for DIYers in my opinion.

      • Second this! Mix between Ryobi 18v, 36v and Ozito 18v. Picking up whatever is best value as I go.

I do love the idea of having the case and matching tools to satisfy my OCD tendencies, but have saved heaps of money the other way.

    • +2

If you've got the extra budget (and can find it in stock) - I'd go with the $999 Dewalt Kit. $300 more and you're getting brushless tools with better specs.

You'll thank yourself down the track with better quality tools and better battery life. They'll honestly last you a decade or more so the $300 is nothing in the scheme of things.

      • The $849 kit is definitely brushless.

  • +1

    Another ripper deal.

DeWalt are a great tool set to invest in. I went with AEG and I love them, but they never really go on sale, just clearance. DeWalt often go on good sales, even just for individual skins usually on Amazon or Amazon US.

I know these are clearance, but they still do great specials.

  • Spoke with a tradie mate and he said DeWalt sell a different model of tools to Bunnings than other stores, hence why such good value compared to say Total Tools, Sydney Tools, etc

They're still fantastic/overkill for home DIY, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy them though

    • +1

In some cases they have bunnings unique product numbers but all these dewalt ones are identical to other retailers. Just check the model number if in doubt.
Some of the bundles might be unique to bunnies.

    • +3

Yeah Bunnings are sneaky. They buy different ranges or even get manufacturers to make small mods just so they are "exclusive" to Bunnings and therefore can never be price matched. But at these prices who cares.

      • Not the case with Dewalt tools. I've had them price beat plenty of tools. The big kits might be exclusive, but the individual tools aren't.

    • -2

      I confirm this.
Model numbers are different. Plus the tools are different quality at Bunnings. Often the ones I've got at Sydney tools are made in Czech republic, Mexico or USA and the batteries are made in Korea but Bunnings is straight China every time. I've bought 3 tool kits now for work. Maybe others have similar experience

      • Most Dewalt tools (and other brands) sold in this region are made in China. If the model numbers are the same, the Dewalt tools at Bunnings are no different than the ones at the other tool shops.

bargain, i prefer Milwaukee but this is too cheap, got 2

Does anyone know what happened to the guy that used to post deals from Blackwoods? He posted 2 years ago some very good deals

    • +1

He’s the guy that got me into DeWalt lol

    • No idea but I missed it on some cracking deals there :(

  • I've been waiting for a good deal on a set of home DIY tools for a while and this looks ideal. I want to make some drawers for my car.

Could someone explain how the online redemption offer of the toolbox works please?

  • +1

still stock in midland WA … As much as I wanna buy it … i would only buy it to flip it so might aswell let someone else have it (or flip it haha)

    • +1

Good on you. I have bought it so I can have a toe in the DeWalt system but will sell cheap the skins I don't need to a colleague who wants them. So half flip, half use.

  • +2

Good kit, the tough system seems more like expensive storage option for DIY given it's purpose is more for tradies to move their kit around a job site.
Plenty of good Dewalt deals atm allowing you to more create your own kits, Sydney Tools have up to 20% points cashback today

  • Thanks OP, ended up buying the $999 kit. Question on the redemption from https://www.guaranteedtough.com.au/ where do you find the Unique Receipt Number from the Bunnings receipt. From googling it's the number above the bar code after the # can anyone else confirm?

    • I only have the PDF receipts from purchasing online and the invoice number is on the top right. I don't have an in store receipt to check for you.

      • can you just confirm how long the invoice number is? Thanks

        • +1

Sure thing, here is one of mine 4025/99889859

          • +1

@revheadgl: Cheers, nothing related on normal printed receipt. I just submit the whole number above the bar code appreciate the help mate.

$150 if it's more than $750. Insane deal.

    • ffs, that wasn't coming up last night.

    • Manage to find stock so bought on PowerPass for the $806 price above.

  • Would anyone be willing to swap the rotary hammer in this kit to the Multitool in the $809 kit? Feel like that's more useful for me, but can't resist he bargain for the toughsystem redemption!

  • +1

    https://trade.bunnings.com.au/campaign/redemption-gift-card

Looks like Bunnings is also doing an EOFY E-Gift card bonus as well for Trade/PowerPass - looks like it stacks with this and gives $150 gift card for $750+ purchase of DeWalt. (Just got an email about it)
No stock near me otherwise I would have gone for it

    • Nice find. You should post that as a separate deal.

      • Have done, also ended up getting a click and collect on the other side of the city…. couldn't help myself

        • +1

Have done, also ended up getting a click and collect on the other side of the city…. couldn't help myself
          Thanks for posting this one

        • Nice one! You got an absolute steal. Even though I don't need any of it, I would struggle to not buy for that price, lol Fortunately I no longer have access to Powerpass and no stock nearby.

          • +4

            @revheadgl:

Fortunately I no longer have access to Powerpass

Doesn't appear to be exclusive to Trade/PowerPass Members.

            Here's the public promotion page

            • @RichardL: Thanks for that. I will change the wording in my posts. And I am still not going to buy it, lol. I already have all these tools in other brands.

  • +1

Went to pick one up yesterday and the Bunnings tool staff recommended coming in today to see the Dewalt rep. Ended up getting a 5a battery, couple of Irwin quick clamps and a Dewalt coffee mug free.
