Per the linked source

Whilst you could use points to pay for your gift cards, it’s one of the worst ways to redeem Qantas points so we would strongly advise against it. Even with the 15% discount, it’s still a poor use of your points.

The 4 points per dollar might be useful if you're otherwise unable to discounted gift cards.
