Bonus Mystery Flight & Overnight Stay When You Buy 6 Bottles of Jacobs Creek Cool Harvest

2450

I need a drink, man…I need a holiday
I need some time off with the missus for a coupla days away
We buy 12 bottles…of this Jacobs Creek
And score a flight and a hotel for a 60 dollar fee

You buy 6 bottles…you get 1 night away
But best to hook up with a friend - it doubles up to a 2 night stay
Buy the drinks now…until December
Book by new years then you travel from February til November

Ten bucks per wine…and it tastes pretty good
Throw in a holiday…tastes ten times better than it should
Check out the terms…this is for real
Don't hold back cause you should know this aint my first Ozbargain deal

http://bonusmysteryflight.com.au/terms.php

OK - now that I've got that out of my system…oh, and this better not be a dupe, cause it took me ten minutes to come up with that.

  • 1 nights accommodation plus return flight for 1 person, or 2 nights plus return flights for 2 people (linked booking) in 3.5 to 4 star hotel
  • $30 booking fee applies per person
  • The offer commences on 1 November 2012 and closes on 30 November 2012
  • Each Mystery Trip must be booked by 31 December 2012 and must be taken between 1 February 2013 and 30 November 2013 (inclusive)
  • Travel ‘blackout’ periods applying including the periods between 13 March 2013 and 18 March 2013 (inclusive) and between 28 March 2013 and 2 April 2013 (inclusive)

I bought 2 x 6 packs for $120, so for me and the wife, it is a total of $180 for 12 bottles of wine plus 2 nights accommodation with return flights :)

We scored ours over a public holiday, and friends have theirs booked in the school holidays.

Took about 7 working days from first sending off for the deal to getting confirmation of our dates of departure.

The guys from the bottle shop said the Jacobs Creek rep advised the trips from Perth will be with Virgin to Brisbane, Sydney, or Melbourne…not sure about other cities.

The stickers may be in an envelope under the counter, although most of my friends have found stickered bottles.

Looks to be 5 different varieties of Cool Harvest:

http://www.jacobscreek.com.au/wines/cool-harvest

It's also advertised in the latest Cellarbrations catalogue…page 4:

http://images.lasoomedia1.com.au/imageicon/clb/prod/j0052293…

And no, this is not a competition - I have had 14 friends and family jump on this already, and got this response from the Jacob Creek reps:

"all participants that satisfy the entry conditions and have a valid claim will receive the offer as outlined"

  • I got lucky at BWS Leeming, none left sorry but at least BWS is an option for those hunting. Bottles on shelf with stickers, 12 only, staff seemed oblivious to my child like glee..

  • +3

My girlfriend and I went on a wild goose chase to get these. 1.5 hours later we hit gold at a 1st choice (only 6) then directly after another 6 at a woolies liquor.

    AWESOME!

    • +5

How good is it when you see those beautiful, purple stickers looking up at you from the shelf after such a hunt.

      • +4

Best feeling man. Girlfriend basically screamed with excitement after we finally found them… Lol it was like finding gold haha!

  • Not much in Melbourne at Cellabrations. Rang the guy at the Bentleigh store and he told me none of his 3 stores had promotional labels. He was furious.

  • Damn it. I bought 11 in one transaction and another 1 in anther transaction (as there wasn't 12 left at the first store) and according to the terms & conditions you must buy all 6 in one transaction.

    • +3

Worst case scenario you just buy another six bottles somewhere and use that receipt.

      • +1

Got it sorted by returning them and buying them again :) all good! Thanks.

  • I don't get it.
I am living in Sydney and you can nominate 3 departure cities but not guarantee which one will be? What happen if I choose Sydney, Canberra and Newcastle they allocated Newcastle?
Will I share with other in 'hotel' room if I go by myself?

    • You nominate 3 departure dates, and 1 departure point.

You will have a hotel room to yourself if you go it alone.

      • Don't you mean 1 destination?

        • Do you know what mystery means??

        • Oops my bad. I thought at the last stage you got to nominate a single destination from a reduced list that they offered you.

  • +3

Apologies to my fellow ozbargainer who walked into the woolies in Carnegie to find me at the counter with the last bottles in the store.

    • lmao!

    • Well there's an idea for the next OzBargain meet up: wait for a next deal and then round up all the people in the shop peering at the labels and head for the nearest watering hole; they'll be OzB'ers. :)

    • +5

lol, that was me. No worries mate have fun! Im still searching…

  • Thanks! Boyfriend comes home and my first words were "get back in the car, we're going to the bottle shop!" we checked out a few liquorlands and they all had bottles but only of sav blanc so now we have 12. I wish we could have found others but oh well.

  • Just got 6 Pinot and 6 Chardonnay from Mount Hawthorn BWS, pretty much the last ones - maybe 3 labelled ones left. Took me about 20 mins to find where there warm ones were on the shelf - nerely gave up and found the last 3 as i was walking to leave!

  • +1

So there's not even a guarantee that you'll leave your state?

  • 3 stores and up to 9 bottles. Will stop at a few more in the morning to get the last 3 :-)

    • +1

carnegie safeway (the other one) had 4 left but i didn't buy them as i needed 6

      • hahaha…I assumed you cleaned them out so didn't bother.

      • Went there this morning and got those 4 plus another 2 without the stickers, so I had a receipt with 6. thanks!
Heading back to the other outlet to do the same.

    • +3

According to my reading of the T&C, you need to buy all 6 bottles in a single transaction to be eligible for this promotion:

To participate in the offer, Claimants must:
      a. during the Purchase Period, purchase any six (6) specially marked 750mL bottles of Jacob's Creek Cool Harvest from participating off-premise liquor outlets in one (1) transaction (each, an Eligible Purchase)

So if you didn't buy 6 bottles on one receipt from one store, you might have trouble claiming this — hopefully they'll overlook this condition, for your sake, though! :)

      • Could be interesting……..12 bottles 3 or 4 receipts!

        • +1

For the sake of a free mystery holiday, surely you would just go buy another two six packs of unmarked bottles and gift/drink them.
1ST Choice seem to have plenty of non-stickered stock, as did quite a few Celebrations.

      • Indeed, so many people that have commented seem to have purchased 6 bottles in several transactions. But as noted above, the T&C's say that you have to purchase all 6 bottles in one transaction.

Furthermore the T&C's also state that: "Incomplete, inaccurate, erroneous, ineligible or incomprehensible claims will be deemed invalid."

  • Oxley (QLD) 1st choice has a few boxes still :)

  • +1

Cleaned out Adelaide's Inner Northern Suburbs (Prospect/Enfield) after work today… Very happy! Hope its interstate and not to somewhere crappy like Whyalla!

  • Got 6 from woolworths liquor bayswater. I don't think they have any left. Still not 100% decided whether to enter or not. If not ill pass it on to a fellow ozbargainer. Thanks for posting OP.

  • +2

Dear QLD Bottlo that close at 8pm, screw you.

  • +1

Went to Celebrations in Bentley WA, the guy took down my details and is getting some in for me. Maybe people can go with that route, don't be afraid to talk to the staff.

  • Thanks heaps! Snagged 12 bottles at First Choice Belconnen. They had more…

  • +2

    Here's some info below -
    BWS Richmond - None
    Dan Murphys Richmond - None
BWS Hawthorn - Less than 6 (well I got the last full case 6 :P)
Liquorland Victoria Gardens Richmond - I got 6 and there was at least another 6 available.

  • Wish I had read the T&C's before… we got 5 @ 1st Choice Liquor in Gunghalin, and splurged for a Oyster bay to make it the 6. No luck in Coles or Local Liquor in Gunghalin. Another 5 in Woolworths Liquor Gunghalin… so splurged on a Lindemans to make it a 6. Arrrgghhhh. Wish i'd just bought the non-labelled version to have all 6 on 1 receipt.

Luckily got the last 2 in Kippax woolies liqour.

For those in north Canberra… don't bother with:
    1st Choice Gunghalin
    Woolworths Liquor Gunghalin
    Coles Gunghalin
    Local Liquor Gunghalin
    Dan Murphy's Belconnen
    Coles Belconnen
    The Bottle-O Belconnen
    Woolworths Liquor Kippax/Holt.

Woolworth liquor belconnen was closed by the time we got there!

    • Don't bother with Woden or Tuggeranong either.

Perhaps try 1st choice in Braddon, SBarn civic or as Flibby suggested 1st choice Belconnen.

      • Wish I'd gone to 1st Choice Belco… i live in Macgregor… but didn't realise there was one there!

    • I just got 12 today from kaleen BWS :) theres only about 2-4 bottles left with stickers on them , we thought we would check the smaller liquor stalls <3

  • The Fresh Prince of Bel Air would be proud, Kirt.

  • I think that every place I call who have no idea about this promotion all of a sudden get wise to it and flog the stickers for their family and friends…

  • +6

this reminds me of a few years ago when i was driving to every Coles Express in the state looking for $2 Simpsons figurines.. and i don't even like figurines.

  • Anyone know how Woolies liquor or 1st choices are with returning stock?

I.e. i want to return my 5 promotion + 1 random bottle I bought at each, and simply buy back the 5 bottles + 1 random + another Jacobs creek one, to have 6 on the one receipt…

I don't care about having an extra bottle or two… it's actually quite nice.

    • ring them and ask

    • +1

I don't think they would care as you aren't returning suspicious stock - simply that you want to combine a receipt (for a competition's sake) + there shouldn't be any costs to the store anyway, probably just pick a time when they're not too busy.

      • That's a good idea.

  • When time do you find out your destination? This will be quite interesting to see where people have gotten.

  • sounds like a great deal!

  • Got 6 sav blanc from Dan Murphy's Midland tonight, left 2 behind but that was all they had

  • kirt you might as well get hired to be a promo rep for these guys… lol

  • I thought I saw someone post a link in this thread for particpating locations. I can not find it now. I also can not find the link on the JC website.

Can someone post this link again?

    Thanks

  • Hey Kirt,

I see that this is for people over 18. I am thinking I will claim for me and one for my daughter, who is well under 18.

If I lie about her age, can you see anywhere in the process where I could be tripped up? She has a passport and domestic only requires a medicare card for her anyway.

    • +1

The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of claims and Claimants (including a Claimant's identity, age and place of residence) and to disqualify any Claimant who submits a claim that is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or who tampers with the claim process. Errors and omissions may be accepted at the Promoter's discretion. Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.

    • Hmmm…there is a good chance you would get away with it - if you get to the part where your claim is verified and they charge you the booking fee, then you are probably home free.

If it goes pear shape, then you might lose the booking fees and be made ineligible for the deal, but that might be worth the risk?

This was the ID info from my last Virgin flight:

"At any stage during check-in, boarding or the flight, all Guests including children may be required to produce ID, along with this itinerary.

Virgin Blue reserves the right to refuse to carry any Guest who fails to provide ID.

Examples of ID include: Drivers License, Passport, Birth Certificate, School Identification and Medicare Card."

      • I think I'll be right. The point of the promo is to promote and flog the wine. They can't do that under 18s. Virgin won't give a rip her age. They probably won't even tie the booking to the promo at the check in counter. Actually - I think you can bypass the check in counter altogether anyway.

        • Yep - you can do the web check in thing, and because it is only 2 nights, you could probably get away with cabin luggage, so no need to check in any bags either.

  • If I can find the bottles, I am going to request the weekends when the Good Food and Wine show are on over in the eastern states, just on the off chance that we get the right city and date. Hope I can find them. I have a few ideas for Perth. I'll post tomorrow if I am lucky and there are more.

  • Pretty cool offer - there's nowhere on the destination list from my closest participating airport that I wouldn't want to go (and they're all interstate.) I just can't convince hubby that it's a good idea. :(

I might have to leave him at home to dog sit and take a friend instead. lol

  • If we choose Gold Coast as our departure airport, think there's more chance of some where up north? Compared to Brisbane…?

  • +1

    Dan Murphy's:
    Victoria Point, 0 with stickers
Springwood, 4 with stickers (pointless as 6 must be on same receipt)

    • +1

Buy the 4 with stickers + 2 more non-stickered ones! Then go on the hunt for the other 2 bottles…

    • i was in Springwood Danmurphy's yesterday afternoon, they had 10 with stickers, I bought 6 of them. Go 1st choice upper mt gravatt, they have plenty of them in stock with stickers

  • done =D

  • I don't know guys. Was excited thinking this was just for ordering a few bottles online…

Reckon it's worth the effort now a lot of shops are out of the purple stickers?

Just hit me how amazing it is that substances like tobacco and cannabis are so pushed in a corner and shunned (tobacco now they aren't allowed to actually show prices of cigarettes at counters until you ask for a brand) and yet, "Here, have a free holiday when you buy a ridiculous amount of alcohol from us!" - I'm not saying it isn't a good deal, just a crazy double standard that one drug is better than all the others, despite being similarly deadly (or moreso in the case of cannabis).

    I don't know, maybe I was just craving a neg because I haven't had one in a while ;)

    • The BIG difference is that you can drink to a responsible level and have no negative effects on your health. Compared to cigarettes where there is no "safe" level of consumption.

      • +1

Agree with PainToad, however, I think the point Andy-Laa is making is that when you are promoting the sale of 12 bottles of wine, it's not really educating customers what that safe level of consumption is.

        • You got it.

I'm a smoker, but I agree with what the government's doing with new smoking legislation.

I just think it's crazy that alcohol is so under the radar - '…as long as you put "drink responsibly" in the corner of the advert right at the end, then you're all good!'

And yes, I'm a legalisation advocate for cannabis.

      • My great auntie: died at 96, smoked about 2 packs a day.

My uncle: died at 40, drank throughout the day.

There's no blanket "bad for you; not bad for you" substance here. They are equal in causes of death (near enough) - how many people have you heard of die from "smoke-driving" or getting into a fight and killing someone because you just had too many cigs?

It's not just the health aspects that need to be looked at, it's the cause-effect of the drug too.

        • +3

Oh the logic and justification smokers use is always funny.

        • I think the same of drinkers :o)

There's just more drinkers than there are smokers.

      • +1

I enjoy a cigar with my drink occasionally and see nothing wrong with it at all. I enjoy both in moderation and never to excess, they are both as 'bad' as each other.

        • -2

Wrong. A cigar is full of carcinogenics. Even one is dangerous. Also alcohol passes the body within 12 hours, whereas good luck getting the tar out of your lungs. Plus all the other immediate effects on the body, eg. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/10/091027085300.ht…

Whereas a minimum level of alcohol can have zero effect, or even beneficial with some wines.

        • +1

Know what else is carcinogenic? Alcohol, among many other things that we eat and breathe in our daily lives. Do you eat BBQ??
Cigars are made from pure leaf tobacco and whilst yes they produce carcinogens, it is not of any great concern to infrequent users. Oh, and you do not inhale cigars, so no worries with tar there. Please do not confuse cigars with cigarettes, which are more like mass produced chemical concoctions designed to be addictive and intentionally inhaled.

        • Many unavoidable things in modern life are carcinogenic, doesn't mean you should stick a bunch in your mouth unnecessarily and pump them into your body.

Once again, it's amazing how people try to justify smoking to themselves.

        • -3

Once again, it's still amazing that drinkers take the moral high-ground with their substance addiction being "healthier" than smokers'.

Let me guess - it's not an addiction you have. You only drink every weekend or similar?

Try going without it for one month and you'll start craving it, I promise you. Addiction doesn't have to mean daily intake…

          Ahh, hypocrites. Cute, aren't they?

        • -3

Alcohol is avoidable; you just don't avoid it.

          See how that works.

This was never a "smoking is better than drinking" comment by the way.

It was me highlighting that legislation heavily restricts one drug, but another drug which is similarly harmful has incredibly minor legislation, is still allowed to be advertised and isn't nearly as heavily taxed or advised against.

Why aren't these pictures of failing organs on the side of a beer bottle? I think they should be. Plain packaging on alcohol too. Why are you so against this, but so for cigarette restrictions?

          http://www.virtualmedicalcentre.com/uploads/VMC/DiseaseImage…
          http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7d/Dee…
          http://yuonline.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Alcohol.jpg
          http://www.bemapofmind.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/colon.…

        • I don't know how many times I have to explain this to you. Alcohol IS different because not all levels are harmful, whereas any amount of smoking is.

I might drink every weekend for small periods, then I might go a few months with nothing, then maybe one at dinner while eating out. To suggest I'm addicted to drinking is laughable, to suggest alcohol is as addictive as nicotine is just plain dumb.

"Q: Is smoking more addictive than alcohol?
A: Yes, the drugs that seem to be the most addictive are nicotine, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Those three are different from all other drugs. Among those who drink alcohol on a regular basis, around 15% develop an addiction. About 45% of those who smoke on a regular basis get addicted."
          http://www.health.com/health/m/condition-article/0,,20210696…

The reason I am against alachaol facing the same level of restriction as smoking is the majority of users consumer a sensible amount, not effecting others, or themselves. Compared to smoking where any amount is a health risk, passive smoking puts others at risk, and most importantly these people clog the health system and cost Auatralian tax payers millions each year.

It's like having laws for seatbelts, something shouldn't need to enforced, but unfortunately people are generally very stupid.

        • -2

Where did I say alcohol is more addictive? I think it's laughable that you believe alcohol to be this miracle cure-all when you could get the same benefits in other ways from other food and drink. It doesn't have to be alcoholic.

"and most importantly these people clog the health system and cost Auatralian tax payers millions each year."

Do you realise how much of a pack of cigarettes is tax? It's give-or-take 90%. Where do you think this tax goes? Places like, for example, healthcare mayhaps?

—As a side-comment, in Britain, the figures showed that for every £1 a smoker takes out of the healthcare system, they put in £5. Counter-intuitively, it's beneficial to the healthcare system.—

I'll correct your last statement: the reason you don't think alcohol should face the same restrictions as tobacco is because you drink alcohol and you don't smoke cigarettes. Whereas I'm for both sides being legislated equally - who sounds fairer here?

        • Ffs buddy. I'm done talking about this.

This pictures sums it all up,
          http://www.quitnow.gov.au/internet/quitnow/publishing.nsf/65…

I drink very occasionally, I run 7ks 3 times a week, I don't need to justify my healthiness to some smoker.

          Have a good weekend.

"Most Australians who drink alcohol do so at levels that have few adverse effects. However, any level of drinking increases the risk of ill-health and injury"

Damn lying NHMRC! It's healthy damnit!

You have a good weekend too, bro; don't get too drunk!

    • Neg'd you as requested :)

      • A-thank you sir!

  • I just need to clear this up- OP states:

"1 nights accommodation plus return flight for 1 person, or 2 nights plus return flights for 2 people (linked booking)"

So we can buy 1 six pack of wine, and get a flights & accom for 2 people? We don't need to buy the 2 six packs??

    • +2

You need to buy 6 in one transaction, 6 in another transaction… then when you go to redeem you need to have them linked… and you'll each get a flight each (fair enough) but you'll go to the same location and rather than each having a twin room for yourself for one night, they'll combine and give you the same room for 2 nights.

No skin off their backs, as they're paying for 2 x return flights, and 2 nights in a hotel room…

      • Cheers for clearing that up

  • I can't find many in Sydney so far. I've tried all within a close radius of work and home so I guess I will be on a treasure hunt tonight.

I have tried Dan Murphys Thornleigh - they had 8, I bought 6 and left 2
Little Bottler Pennant Hills - none
    Liquorland Kings Cross - none
    Cellarbrations Kings Cross - none
Mr Liquor Kings Cross - none

    I need 6 more!

    • +1

Liquor land cherrybrook has a few cases out the back. Only sav blanc. I ended up getting some there yesterday and the man was very helpful.

Liquor land pennant hills had a few left last night (went ther to try find anything that wasn't sav blanc!!) but not sure if there would be 6… I don't think so. They had two on the shelf and some in the fridge but I doubt there would be 6.

      • Well the person working at Liquorland Cherrybrook this arvo was the opposite of helpful. He had no idea about the promotion. Couldn't see any marked bottles asked him and he said there weren't any marked bottles out back though I'm not sure if I believe him since he started out not knowing anything. Damn it.

Also definitely none left at Liquorland Pennant Hills. The guy working there thinks you can claim a receipt for 6 ordinary bottles online but I don't believe him either, think he was trying to make a sale.

        • There were multiple sealed cases yesterday of the sav blanc. When we opened one it had stickers and they all had the same date stamp so we assumed they would all have stickers. They didn't have any cartons? Yesterday there were also some on the shelf with stickers.

        • They said no but I don't think they checked properly because I doubt that many people came in today even with the power of Ozbargain. There was a girl at the register and a morose guy stocking. They didn't even know what I was talking about until I showed them a print out of the mystery flight website and asked them to check for it.That or the employees have cottoned onto the deal and are playing dumb to save them.

I'm heading up to Hornsby after school gets out, but might try back at Cherrybrook tonight if I strike out up there and hopefully shift has changed and I get someone with sense.

        • That's a shame. It was an older man last night. I said I was looking for the bottles and he told me that the promotion had ended yesterday. So we pulled out bf's phone and checked the dates again. He then said that the 6 for $60 had ended yesterday - he didn't know about this deal. We bought one carton there and went looking elsewhere for a different variety which is how I know what was left at Penno. He said he had heaps of cartons out the back… maybe someone in the store wised up and took them all, or it's already been hit up by ozbargain.

  • -1

Thanks heaps. For any shellharbour ozbargainers I have cleaned out dan murphys shellharbour , (they only had four ) there were none at bws warilla but the independent Charlie's liquor barn still had some after I got my trolley (60 bottles). the guys down there said the rep told them it was Melbourne or somewhere in qld from sydney. Maybe try some independents if you are having trouble but also ask as the stickers could be behind the counter.

    • +1

Why 60 Bottles? Why not just 12? Is your name Captain Hogworth?

      • Yeah called me out on that one. I'm so greedy buying for my family and friends as a gift. Bet your family is glad you aren't as greedy as me. Otherwise they'd have to go on a free holiday. BTW The store had plenty of stickered stock left when I bought mine and another friend of mine bought 12 bottles 6 hours after I got mine and said there was still some left.

  • +1

Cellarbrations at Springhill had heaps, but be warned, guy had no idea what he's doing. Nice guy but.

I got him to put it through on two receipts, they both have the same receipt number :-S Think that will be a problem? The receipts get sent separably don't they?

    • why do they have the same receipt number? he must have done a single transaction with two different payments

      • Or did two, but printed the same one twice. Got two eftpos receipts…

        • that might be a conundrum, might not. You'll have to read all the fine print again.

        • +1

Think I'll go back at lunch and get him to print a new receipt with different numbers to be safe.
