  • that book.if i take the screen out would it become 100% exact same as owning a surface pro tablet? or i need to keyboard part most of the time?
also if i have surface pro 5 and dont use keyboard a lot would this worth of an upgrade?

It's exactly the same as the surface tab. I loved the books and wish they had never gens

yes minus the stand at the back. Also this has battery split between screen and keyboard, something to be mindful of.

    • +1

It's less than a surface pro tablet, in fact. Because it doesn't have any usb ports on the tablet itself.

      • ah no any usb hmmm kind of depend on the keyboard then

    • Really?

  • "graphics card"? Iris is just the integrated GPU. The optional GPU was NVidia.
Note also soldered RAM, sealed case, and 1.6kg mass. Nice display!

Hey OP, would you have any 16gb RAM ones for sale? Ta

I’ve used the 8gb version of this laptop, doing anything more then light work is not a good time.

It's got a great screen (especially for 500 bucks) but a word of warning, the screen is held in place with the strongest double-sided adhesive I have ever come across. I tried to replace the battery on my surface book and after extensive heating from a heat gun (not a hair dryer) it started to give a bit, but when I've done two edges in an hour and a half, the screen gave way and shattered. It's probably my skill issue but just something to be mindful of.

I would buy a used x1 6th gen for about half the price of this.

    • But the x1 6th gen is only an FHD panel. Not nearly as good. But it depends on what you are wanting it for.

The Surface range is well known for being practically unrepairable.
They're great computers as long as your employer is paying for them

    • Yeah these are totally non-serviceable. If you need to replace the battery, then it becomes ewaste…

      • So does Microsoft even replace these batteries as a service ?

        • If you send them yours with a warranty issue, you get a replacement device. You don't get your fixed Surface back.
Not sure if Microsoft is then taking the time to rebuild the faulty units at their leisure - you would expect they are, and these fixed units then become the supply pool above. But they'd only do that if it's cost effective.

  • Owned one of these before, the connection between screen and keyboard is finicky at best.

Hi rep, interested in Dell laptops (Refurb) sale. Hope something comes up soon.

  • Any recommendations for a nice laptop for around $1000. Hoping for min 16gb ram, 256gb storage and good battery life. Ideally touch screen, backlit keyboard, slim and good quality. Hard to know if some things on sale are really good value or not… Is there a site (other than ozbargain) for laptops?
