Is there any change in FTTP pricing starting July 1 for 100/40 similar plans around the $100 price point?

    • All those lower plans are going up in price.

  • +1

    Want, can't afford

  • +12

I would sign up if I could get a free upgrade from FTTN to FTTP, which costs $10K according to a quote from the NBN. 💸

I stopped voting Liberal since they gutted fibre NBN.

    • +2

I thought you can do a free upgrade if you sign up for gigabit connection? But in my case, I went from FTTC to FTTP via AB though.

      • +1

You can once its available in your area, you can check on NBN's website.

      • You only need to order a 100/20 service now to get fibre, if it's available at your premises.

    • +10

Ah yes, the better and cheaper option which anyone with at least a few brain cells would of realized, hey its gonna end up costing way more in the future.
      F**K turdballs.

    • Leaptel do indeed offer free fibre upgrades at eligible addresses. Costs nothing to check if you're eligible through them.

      • +4

        Nothing for HFC user.
I think they are prioritising FTTC -> FTTP upgrades.

    • More telecom offers free upgrade too

    • Why wait … sign up with Starlink until NbN is ready (will they be?)
Good EOFY offers with Starlink hardware (lowest it has been)

  • +7

Later this year or early next year, 100/20 is set to become 500/50, 250/25 becomes 750/50 and 500-1000/50 becomes 750-1000/50-100.
    https://www.itnews.com.au/news/nbn-co-wants-to-boost-its-100…

They're also looking at new 2Gbps plans (business fibre 2000/500, FTTP 2000/200 and HFC 2000/100) which would require a modem upgrade (2.5Gbps for residential, and 10Gbps for businesses). You would think these will be followed by high upload options, inline with one of the existing examples provided in this deal.
    https://www.itnews.com.au/news/nbn-co-starts-talking-about-2…

    • I think this was really interesting in that for most people - the new 100/20 (500/50) will be enough if it's much cheaper

  • +3

Ive just signed up to their 1000/50 plan for $99 , I like how the discounts last for 12 months , unlike the others that are only for 6 months. I need the extra upload for working from home as i move large data around

    • +1

If you don't need the large download, they do 100/40 for $85/m.

      • +1

There’s always more room for faster download, lots of things to download :)

  • +3

Ergh I miss having access to DGTek. 1000/1000 symmetrical speeds for <$150 😞

  • +1

Should be able to afford it, once I do med school.

    • Don't you mean finish med school?

      • +2

Don't you mean, finish med school and paid off HECS

        • +2

Don't you mean, finish med school, paid off HECS, and worked for the next 10 years to get together a 5% house deposit?

  • -2

    jesus christ these prices

  • +1

To put it in perspective, 4 years ago I was paying $160/month for Aussie BB 1000/40

  • Interested to know customers experience with leaptel. Their prices are tempting me away from superloop after they passed on the wholesale price increase.

    • +5

The original Superloop (2020) was great. On par with AussieBB. Not so anymore. At least not from my POI. Leaptel have been rocksolid. stable latency to gameservers 24/7. Superloop would lag during peak times to the point of being unplayable.

    • +7

I churned over from ABB months ago to Leaptel and the performance has been exactly the same during off peak and peak periods , very good provider on par with ABB but cheaper.

      • Good to know, thanks for sharing your feedback!

      • cheaper than ABB for only one year

        • +2

You can just livechat their support and they're likely to give you a similar or same discount again.

I did it recently to get $10 off my 100/40.

    • +2

I’ve been impressed after a couple of months on their 250/100 in inner Melbourne. That is to say, fast / no latency issues I’ve noticed (although I don’t do much that is super latency sensitive) / reliable. Comms around scheduled outages are good too. My one live chat support experience was good too. Overall I’d say equivalent from my perspective to prior ABB experiences, and FAR better than my most recent Superloop experience (who have really gone downhill).

    • Leaptel has been great. I installed that samtells device or whatever to keep them honest, and thier performance has been exemplary.

    • +2

Extremely happy. Like most customers I've done the AussieBroband —> Superloop —> Leaptel churn as each of those companies turned to shit.

So far extremely happy with Leaptel. Moved into a new house with wiring issues (which wouldn't have been possible if we'd had a proper fttp rollout…) and had to raise an issue with Leaptel. Very fast call centre, Melbourne based, knowledgeable helpful people (no need to sit through 15 minutes of Optus customer level "have you tried restarting the modem" script), and they were surprisingly insistent on getting back to me to find out if my issue had been resolved (I kept ignoring the calls because I didn't recognise the number)

Would recommend Leaptel all day every day

    • +1

Agree with Bruceflix. I also don't like Superloop's support. Very obviously outsourced.

  • +1

Ooof I don’t wanna brag but they’re gonna have to do better than that as I currently get 25/5mbs… yes 25/5 with no chance of getting fttp anytime soon as they pushed it back again to march next year :(

  • +4

Begging for more upload on HFC

  • -4

Aussie broadband has it at $129

    • +7

ABB don't even offer 1000/400 for residential

    • I only see 1000/50 plan. How do you fetch the 1000/400 plan? thanks heaps

      • +1

For ABB - they don't have. 400 Upload
For Leaptel, click on the All plans - By default it is Popular plans

        • +1

Have to say that not having all the plans show as default is a bit bizarre

          • +1

@Bruceflix: The typical consumer doesn't know what they need and finds it overwhelming. And like some people in the comments they don't understand that high upload plans cost more than the equivalent download option with slow uploads.

Do you know where we can find the full pricing changes due on 1st July, or does it only apply to 1000/400?

            • @Viper8:

they don't understand that high upload plans cost more than the equivalent download option with slow uploads.

and some people don't understand that higher uploads need not really cost more than higher downloads…

              • +1

@jv: I am well aware of the AVC and former CVC artificial pricing models, and the various changes the have taken place since their inception.
But that is irrelevant to the masses shopping for home internet on Leaptel's website that don't even know how to do a speedtest.

            • +1

@Viper8: Only 1000/400 gets a new price drop. 250/100 and 500/200 stays the same as https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/820266

Good plan for the responsible torrenter

    • I try to be a responsible torrenter, but not more than double the price of my 1000/50 type of responsible torrenter.

  • Everyone here talking about 1000-2000mbps whilst I'm stuck with 55mbps max fttn because nbn refuses to mark my townhouse as applicable for fttp upgrade!

My entire st has fftp but fking nbn co refuses upgrades for "multi dwelling unit" I have my own fking box so I don't need strata approval!

    • I feel for you. My FTTBs forgotten about because MDU upgrades are 'too difficult'

    • I had the same issue, kept pushing my ISP who eventually got it through (somehow). I was in the same boat, whole street has fttp but because there's two houses on the same block it was considered a "unit".

      • @freefall101 which isp did you push? and how did you do it? Can you provide steps please!

optus and they are complete garbage and they won't contact nbn for this issue >_<

        • Went through superloop, there was no real process. Looking back I messaged them a few times about their website showing me not being able to upgrade despite my neighbours having it then suddenly it was available. So it could have been pure luck, I suppose. Have you checked your address here too? - https://www.nbnco.com.au/residential/upgrades/more-fibre - that's for the apartment upgrade program they kicked off.

          • @freefall101: yup not available :/

gonna pretend I'm strata manager and get them to call me lol!

    • +1

It is possible to get the status of your townhouses reviewed. It took over 6 months, but I got a 10 townhouse/villa complex reclassified from complex MDU to 10 simple SDUs (mine was hardly simple, but the rest will be easier now that rope has been pulled through all the pits). You would need to have individual lead-ins.

      • @randomizer101 who do i contact?

There is no way of contacting nbn and my isp keeps telling me nothing they can do because it's on nbn side!

        Please provide steps thanks!

        • There's no formal process for it, at least not yet. You could try switching to an ISP that has competent staff like Leaptel, Launtel, or ABB and try your luck with them. I went through a different route by first registering for the complex MDU program.

If you register for the complex MDU program (you'll probably need to be on the strata committee to be an authorised contact) you will be contacted directly by nbnco. If your complex is small they will give you a spiel about how it will probably cost a lot more than the target price of $275/unit. You can then put your case forward to be reclassified. It may or may not succeed, depending on who your contact is. I had different outcomes from two different people.

It's important to keep in mind that the wheels turn very slowly at nbnco, especially if your are asking them to deviate from their normal procedures. Don't expect a speedy outcome in your favour.

          • @randomizer101: The problem is we don't have a strata committe…

There are 5 townhouses on our block and everything is separate.

I don't need permission from anyone to install anything on our property…

I have my own line (fttn) to the side of my townhouse (box) which currently runs from the street pole

It would literally take them no time to install it on my property which is what pisses me off to no tmr!

At one stage, I thought about taking them to the local court (small claims) so that I can finally get them assholes at nbn to contact me directly…

            • @neosin: My suggestion would be to pretend you are a strata committee member for the purpose of filling in the form and then explain the situation once you are in contact with a person. nbnco have designed the complex MDU program with a very narrow idea of what a strata complex looks like (apartments or sprawling townhouses with MDFs), and they are slowly becoming aware of the number of complexes that don't fit the initial assumptions. You just need to get in contact with someone who has both the will and authority to deviate from the standard processes.

  • $75 wholesale price for 250/100 now but no ISP’s seem to be interested in dropping their prices or even offering it?

    • There has been price drops. You won't get anything close to $75 wholesale.

Launtel 250/100 $4.30 per day (around $129/month, was $4.50 per day). Static IP costs extra and no ABN requirement.

Leaptel 250/100 $120/month for 12 months ($135/month ongoing). Static IP costs extra and no ABN requirement.

Future BB 250/100 $125/month ongoing. Includes a static IP and no ABN requirement.

Aussie BB 250/100 $104.30/month for 6 months ($149/month ongoing). Includes a static IP, nbn eSLA and an ABN is required.

  • Considering it was $150 for 1000/50 not too long ago, this is good progress.

  • what about 500/200

    • $150/month for 12 months ($165/month ongoing).

      • those are current prices, wont it go down, like this one?

        • Nope the discounts for 250/100 and 500/200 are as is. Only 1000/400 gets an extra discount.

  • is 100 upload for a reasonable price so hard ;-;

    • Yes. Nbnco specifically prices out fast upload speeds out of all residential plans to push these customers to business plans.

If you want 21st century internet connectivity you might consider moving to a rural town in New Zealand, where gigabit fibre plans are $100/mo

Average speed 903Mbit download, 517Mbit upload

  • Hi
I would like to know what kind of user case there is for this kind of speed 24x7 for home or homeoffice. Do they guarantee these speeds all the time or just burst .
this is lot of bandwidth if I run 24hrs every day.
    thanks

    • +2

Content creators, people with home servers, WFH dealing with large files. Pirates….

Niche market but a market nonetheless.

  • Currently paying $120 for 1000/50, can't justify $60 more for awesome upload speeds. It would be great for remote game streaming and web hosting though.

  • -2

Post really didn't go as you thought hey? 😂😂

  • +1

New pricing is up on the website now for this one. I don’t need anywhere near the upload speed here but just put in my order for the 1000/50 plan (moving from Superloop) and noticed this plan available for ordering.
