Lexar NM790 4TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4×4 NVMe SSD with Heatsink $299 Delivered / MEL C&C @ Metrocom

1530

Lexar are doing a short, very limited, EOFY deal, via their local retailers.

Big shout out and thank you to our local OZBargain Lexar Rep for organising this and making it possible.

Only Metrocom & Mwave have updated their prices. BPC and JW are still to follow suit, so wait and watch to see what happens, or just buy @ $299.
Comes with Heatsink and without. I understand you can remove the heatsink but still have the warranty intact.

YouTube Promo on the drive.

Edit: The other two have followed suit. Everyone is now at $299.

Edit 2:

There are a lot of questions about the heatsink.
PSA confirmed by the Lexar Rep: You can safely and carefully take out the heatsink and use it as is. Inside the heatsink is the exact same drive as the non-heatsink version. The warranty sticker is inside the heatsink, and stuck on the drive itself, so as long as you don't remove that sticker, it will remain under warranty.

The warranty is immediately void for user-induced damaged (not for removing the heatsink).

Edit 3:

Metrocom has sold out, so now buy from BPC. I believe Mwave has fees. JW is another good C&C option.

  • Looks like Metrocom has sold out.

  • This will be good to swap with my 2yo 1TB which shows 96% health so bought from BPC for $299 with free shipping.

      Enjoy!

  • No fees with Mwave if bank transfer.

I just got an email from Mwave this morning stating that my order has been delayed. I used BPay, so there was a one-day lag between payment and processing, but c'mon. I'm so ded haha.

Anyway, I sent a message to their CS to see if they're willing to exchange my order for the non-heatsink version at the same price. That'd be a godsend since I never needed the heatsink anyway.

      • Cancel and buy from bptech.?

        • +1

I'm not sure this is the ideal course of action given the timeframe. I think I'll let it slide for now and see how it goes. I'll post their email here in case anyone's interested.

          Hi AJHS^&#!&*#HJG,

Unfortunately, your order, A^&^*#!GJASDS is delayed.

While your order is still being processed, we haven’t been able to meet the dispatch timeframe we estimated for your order at checkout.

We are currently dispatching over 95% of orders on the same day if you order before 11 am and all items are in stock. We are seeing some delays for products that we are waiting to receive from our suppliers at the moment which is causing some orders to go beyond the promised time. Please accept our apologies for this, it's not intentional.

Once your order is ready for dispatch, you will receive tracking information. It can take 1 - 2 days to activate and be updated on the courier (AusPost & Startrack) website.

Please be assured our team is working with our suppliers to support the most timely dispatch of your order soon as possible. If you need a solution urgently, our Customer Service team may be able to assist with alternative products.

Thank you for your support and patience.

          Kind Regards,
          Mwave Customer Service

          • @indojo24: Cancel it if you can do a CNC
            See this.

            • +1

@lordra: I actually chose CnC, partly because of the $30 credit. I figured it's easier to just head over to Mwave and grab the stuff myself, and also in case I might need to buy a couple of other stuff directly from their showroom.

I looked at the cancellation process, and it's not a smooth ride because they might charge a restocking fee of 20% of the product. I'll just wait and see. It's not really that urgent for me, but it certainly annoys me.

      • What was your purchase date?

I bought on 25th from metrocom and arrived today in ACT.

        • I put the order on 24th, but the order was processed on 25th.

      • +1

same, ordered on the 24th verified on the 25th

        • I just got word from Mwave CS. Here's what they have to say:

          Hi #^S&%&)(^&,

We have received the stock to fulfill your order and we are currently in the process of unpacking the items received from our supplier - It is currently in the receiving section of the warehouse. We will allocate the items to your order ASAP. An email notification will be sent to you once the order has been completed.

Please note - due to a backlog in our warehouse, an additional 1 business day will be required for unloading, receiving, and allocation before dispatch.

          Kind regards

Looks like it's gonna be next week, unless they also move inventory on weekends.

          • @indojo24: I haven’t received such an email yet..

            • @buyer-123: I sent a message to the CS, so this is likely personal. Someone else in the other more recent post mentioned that MWave will start dispatching on Monday.

              • +1

@indojo24: Yes, i saw. Personally i'm fine with waiting as I already have 2 ssd’s in my PC. Looking forward to turn my 512GB games and documents drive into a 4TB one :)

                • @buyer-123: Do you plan to remove the heatsink? I'm planning to add it to my laptop's second slot, but chances are it won't fit w/ the heatsink, so I'll have to find some way to remove it carefully.

                  • +1

@indojo24: It seems to just be screwed together..

                    also never mind monday

                    • @buyer-123: The issue seems to be the thermal pads. I'm hoping that removing it won't be as tricky as the guy in the other post suggested.

no email from Mwave. Looks like it's Monday for me.

Removal of heat sink is very easy and i have already done it and installed in my laptop. The heat sink is basically in two parts of metal box

    • Remove all four screws
    • Facing the big "Lexar text" on top , just lift the top cover and it comes out easy
    • Now the SSD is still glued to the bottom cover
    • Facing the lexar text with 4TB SSD lable ( & serial number ) on top , you will see six small slots around the base cover . Just use something like sim card ejector tool and insert in any one of the slot to gently push the SSD from the base cover. ( make sure SSD is not damaged by using sharp objects ) The SSD will come out easily with the thermal pad attached.
    • I assume you removed the thermal pads afterwards? Or did you just leave it be?

    • Did this today. The second point is didn't lift for me as easily, I had to use a flat screwdriver to prop it open.

The 6 small slots pokes into the heatsink sticker so be careful when you do this.

      • I am glad you found a way to open it.

Good on you for figuring this out.

If you had done a youtu.be video for it, I'm sure you would have got a lot of views!

I removed the thermal pads as well. Just installed the board as it is… Thought about better air circulation
