Thanks all who suggest this - it works as cash and Sunday plumber!

Hey guys,

I'm trying to replace the washer and realise I cannot remove the tap's handler.
The handler refused to be pulled off after removing top cap. There's no hidden screw can be found.
Given the main body is behind the tile, there's hardly any space to directly apply wrench on the bottom nuts.

There's a bunnings page says it may have a hidden nut and requiring a vandal-proof spanner to remove. I can hardly see any hole behind the handler, though.

Do I need a vandal-proof spanner? Or just a brute tap handle puller?

The tap seems from DONSON and any suggestion would be helpful!

The taps look like this:

    it should just come off.
    its jammed/corroded shut.
it won't have a hidden screw.
    just stuck.
spray some lubricating spray in to it. and let that sit for an hour to penetrate.
give it a jiggle. to get the spray in.

How to remove a shower tap handler without screw?

    just pay them in cash…

  • No jiggle at all if you try to jiggle the handle? Doesn’t look like there is any further nut or similar holding it on…

Try tapping the handle gently from behind with a spanner, making sure it doesn't fly off and chip your bath.

This reference will be around for another 12 months at least. I love it.

It should slide of, it may be stuck because dirt and grim gets caught between the spindle and tap handle. Use a mallet or put something over the handle and gently tap it of.

The only way this can be done is to knock the house down and re-build

You joke, but with Reno costs it might be cheaper than a whole house Reno

Open the tap (turn on the water) as far as it will go -turn water off at the mains.
Place a spanned behind the handle against the axle and close the tap so as is retracts back to the wall it pinches the scanner, pushing against the handle and it will dislodge.

it might be a little stuck, but you can unscrew the dome shaped housing by unscrewing it without taking the cross shaped handle off

then you will get access to the shaft underneath to remove the with a shifter

you can open the tap as far as you can to get more room, remember to close it before you turn the mains back on

Tap it gently with a mallet and it should come off.

Worse case, grind off the tap handle and replace the whole tap with some half turn ceramic disc spindles.

I've used this in my rental for over 10 years. https://www.bunnings.com.au/mondella-resonance-ceramic-disc-…

No washers so the tenants can't over tighten it.

Whether you replace the washers or replace with ceramic disc spindles, make sure you resurface your tap seats.

This is the second step, if you're stuck at this stage I think you should call it quits now. There's still the trim surround to unscrew as well as the spindle.

if your having this much trouble, pay someone… before next thread
'… theres water blasting out of the wall cause I broke the pipe and now need a new bathroom… any deals better than $20,000'?

Try paying your plumber with money instead.

Had the same problem a few weeks ago with a similar set of taps. I sprayed some WD40, waited a few minutes before tapping it with a mallet to loosen it up and it came off easy after that.

  • Bikies.

They'll get it off, drink all of your beer, annoy your neighbours, make a mess of your dunny and be your friends for life.
