I bought this 1.5 year ago. It had often been finicky, and required the occasional factory reset. A couple of weeks ago it started completely dropping out, sometimes within seconds, and I believe it is now defective. I bought the one recommended by mike82, which seems to work flawlessly for less than a third is the price. That one actually supports Carplay too, and is much more compact.

I don't think the MA1 is worth buying.

    • Damn, there's so many cheaper ones! Thanks.

    • I've had the complete opposite experience, Mitsubishi Triton and the stock AA/CP head unit is absolute trash, drops out every 10 minutes. Got the MA1 probably around the same time frame as you (more than a year ago anyway) and it has only dropped out twice in that time period. I might have the exception but I can say it has been a massive quality improvement for me.

My MA1 would drop out every time I went through an e-toll. It also about 45 seconds to connect to my Pixel 7. I sold it on FB Marketplace after 3 months and went back to using a cable. Might consider the one you suggested.

      • I'm not talking reception dropping out, which you get across the board with AA (though some worse than others). The MA1 had this too, near cell towers. I'm talking about the unit itself just crashing, as if the plug was faulty. Sometimes after just 1.5s, and often not recovering.

I see no reason to still pay a massive premium today, now that cheap alternatives exist.

    • I got one of these Xudas also after reading an OzBargain comment but am having trouble connecting it.
Am I meant to "forget" my Bluetooth pairing with my car before initiating this, as my phone errs to the cars Bluetooth instead of this.

No, it needs to be paired with the car, but also with the Xuda unit.

  • Went through the rabbit hole of these AA/CP units to get AA for the Mrs Mg3. Ended up with a car link it basic for a little over $100.

If I could do it again, I'd just get the widescreen units running standalone Android. These things are slow as hell, pairing with multiple phones is slow, limited to 30fps.

For an extra four bucks I'd go with AAwireless again, same day prime delivery too:

We've had one in our i30 for over 2 years now and have been very happy with it. It isn't 100% flawless, but I had more AA dropouts with a cable than I do with the AAwireless and startup/pairing is fast and automatic.

Especially happy with the fact that they're an engaged developer and OTA updates are frequent and simple, often bringing in fixes for specific car issues (like one cause by a Hyundai/Kia software update a year or so back). I know there's a new version in the works, but can't think of any major reason I'd want to upgrade, the current one just works.

      This is the way.

We have ours in my wired android auto car, it syncs to mine and the wifes phones happily, not flawless but as good or better than the cable.
