This was on sale for $20 which was posted in low qty deals but keen to know your opinions on if I should pull the trigger to convert my wired CarPlay to this.

Reviews are promising though mine got less reliable over a few months, not this model or brand which also had good reviews, price maybe worth risk, please update us on future similar deals if you pull trigger

No, you'll need a car with wired CarPlay first.
This dongle essentially present itself as an iPhone, and then connect to your iPhone wirelessly for CarPlay.
If your car doesn't come with CarPlay, you'll need other type of dongle (that converts Android Auto, for example, to CarPlay) or a new head unit/screen/etc. (that supports CarPlay).

Does anyone notice that wireless Android Auto chews the battery life of your phone?
It is using wifi and bluetooth to make the connection. Usually cars with wireless carplay or android auto will have wireless charging for this reason.
Yeah originally I didn't realise that. I thought it would all be Bluetooth.
I think setting up the wifi network really takes a toll on battery

Note this adapter doesn't support android auto. It is carplay only.
