Whole Cooked WA Rock Lobster $13.50 @ Coles in-Store

1350

Looks like lobster’s back on the menu boys! Absolute steal this one.

Asked the lady at the deli, she said this was a company wide promotion. Your mileage may vary, but for context I’m in urban NSW.

    Time for some lobster rolls

    • +5

I've done this and reckon it's the best way to eat these.

      Brioche, Kewpie, mustard and watercress

    • 100% will be better than the Fish Market "Lobster" Roll

  • +1

The supplier to coles would be copping some shit from coles for delivering small lobsters

  • +1

    do these taste like rubber?

    • probably

    • +5

I couldn't tell - never ate rubber personally

    • +5

They don't taste like condoms if that's what you're asking.

  • +1

whats the point of pre-cooked lobsters? I never quite understood. Get that it may be easier to transport and preserve however it would be like selling pre-cooked fish, it will just taste nowhere near as good as fresh fish

    • +1

This is not just pre-cooked, it has been pre-cooked, froze, and thawed.

      • +6

Oh boy, can't wait to buy it to refreeze and then rethaw

    • It doesn't go off as quickly has uncooked dead lobsters

      • +1

why not freeze them from fresh as soon as they get captured then and sell them frozen? I'm sure the result is a much better tasting product

        • +1

Frozen raw without cooking only last a few months, These are probably 2 years old.

  • Goes into an agreement which china to sell lobsters back to them
    Lobster prices go down.

    Um what?

  • +6
  • Anyone able to let me know how much they're weigh?

    • +2

The lobsters can’t weigh anything, they’re dead!

    • less than 500g. Those are the smallest size. Normally Coles also have a slightly bigger size which costs about $30-$45.

    • +1

Deli staff said to me they have to be minimum 400gm.

If you are determined ask to weigh them on the deli scales and grab the heaviest.

  • They don't have them at Marrickville Metro Coles. Boooooo

Precooked and defrosted - you couldn’t pay me to buy these

  • +1

I picked up 4 @ my local Coles this evening….couple of dinners sorted!
There was none on display but they had plenty inside…just had to ask!

It's not advertised in the Coles catalogue as far as I can see…

    • WA local coles?

    • So how did they taste for dinner?

      • Awful

        • Thats bad

  • Never had any luck with these 1/2 price lobsters…

    • Don't ask don't tell……

      • Sold out in 2 hours. Knew it.

  • +2

Dont think i condone the OP saying to Absolutely steal this one…lol

  • Bought 5 at my local Sydney store.

    340g-450g each

  • Did buy the last one from Coles Asquith, gonna try get some more tmr.

  • It's overcooked and rubbery. Not great.

    • Yes

    Interesting timing.
The Chinese Premiere Li was just in WA the other day and both our state and fed govt failed to get a commitment from China that they would drop the ridiculous import tariffs on WA rock lobsters. For sure & certain the industry here in WA expected a far better outcome.

    • Can't be a coincidence.

  • +1

    ahhhahahhhahhahahhahhahahah ahah ahah rock lobster!

  • Bought a couple last night, one frozen, one thawed, the thawed one weighed 450gm, took it home and had it for dinner with a bit of lemon, oil and salt. Was everything it could be for $13.50, good cheap meal and hit the spot.

  • Any good recepies for already cooked thawed lobsters? Reheating it feels like it will ruin the texture

    LET'S ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, wouldn't it be better to leave the rock lobsters in water where they can live their lives instead of causing them suffering and killing them for no reason other than our 15 minutes of taste pleasure?

  • Just went to my local Coles in Perth and bought 2 for 13.50 each. They are 320 grams per cray for anyone wanting to know. Very small.

  • Save Ur $$.

These Lobsters are ordinary at best!

  • +1

    Once they're cooked then frozen they're flavourless….

    • +1

I used two of them today for lobster pasta. Took out the meat and boiled the carapace for some stock. Incorporated the stock in the sauce and added the meat late to prevent overcooking. It was amazing.

  • Thanks,. Bought 6 for some lobster rolls

  • Anyone in Melbourne managed to get lobsters at this price. Went to my local and was told this deal isn’t available in VIC.

  • -1

I doubt it's a complete. Someone's already had the claws, the best part of a lobster. Or is it a crayfish, yep that's what it is.

    • A crayfish. Also commonly called a 'rock lobster'.

  • Don't think it's available in VIC ? The Coles at Richmond, Vic had no idea about it.

    • one at mulgrave has it

  • Tried it today. They are juvenile and have been frozen too long. I should have learnt last time.

  • Mix some Olive oil, squeezed fresh lemon, oregano & cracked pepper in a bowl, dip the lobster meat and enjoy :)

  • is this cooked ones best to blend in with mornay sauce + cheese oven?

it's great price but once they're frozen cooked. the real juicy favour gone like 70% than a raw lobster

  • Missed this one! Is it ongoing or done now?

    • The offer finished on Tuesday - 25 June. I went to Cole's twice and I was unable to buy it. No stock or sold out quick.

      • Yeah very disappointed every time seeing nothing at the store. This is only for those early birds shopping in the morning.

The deal was marked as expired yesterday if I remember correctly. Not sure of now.
