Note that Westpac has a 3% international transaction fee (as far as I'm aware it applies even if you pay in AUD, so don't or you'll get hit with fees twice).

    • +6

That's correct - avoid Westpac for any international transactions, including Shop/Paypal checkout even when you are being charged in AU$, if the transaction is processed overseas they'll still hit you with a charge, incredibly annoying and uncompetitive.

Stick with Macquarie, Ubank, Up, Revolut, ING etc that offer no international transaction/conversion fees.

      • but then isn't means you cannot get the westpac bonus? I thought you need to use westpac card to earn the 15% bonus cashback?

        • +7

Apologies - that's right, you do need to use a Westpac card for the bonus cashback, but account for the ~3% fee and the risk of cashback not tracking, especially with the current AE codes that are available.

And I just remembered that you also lose PayPal protection.

    • I would rather have credit card chargeback rather than paypal protection. Paypal doesnt protect you from AliExpress from my personal experience.

      • unless I'm mistaken, wouldn't PayPal add an additional layer of protection on top of chargeback?

  • +2

I got excited, then I remembered why I do all my international purchases on up

  • +4

Last time I paid in AUD on Aliexpress on my Westpac debit card. There was no extra international transaction fee - the total in Aliexpress was the total in the transactions. The transaction is listed 'aliexpress North Sydney AUS'.

    • Yes, when buying on Aliexpress you are dealing with an Australian company. What is the name on the post tracking, its some other name isnt it?

    • Noted.

  • +4

If AliExpress charges you in AUD there is no international transaction fee. Do keep in mind though that their AUD prices are typically much higher than the USD price converted at market rate so you may still be better off eating the 3 percent and paying in USD.

Well, 15% bonus cashback > 3% fees technically

      • +1

Chances of SB properly tracking during upsized CB events? Maybe also 3%.

    • Also noted, good point about their crappy exchange rate.

  • Does the aliexpress codes on their site currently void the WP cashback here?
    thx

    • no, and neither do coins

Got the standard cashback but no bonus cashback, assume its going to come through later, hopefully there are no other requirements to get the cashback, apart from adding the Westpac card to Shopback.

Alliexpress is normally good for cashback and it was fast to track, so this makes it less risky with Shopback.

  • ahh just made in time for a few small things I needed for a project

    hopefully it'll track soon tomorrow

    • +1

Did it track for you? Its normally fast with Aliexpress.

Have got the normal cashback, but no bonus.

This is going to have to be the last time i use shopback with the number of problems, especially the latest problems, with the bonus cashbacks not tracking which is very odd as Westpac must be able to see the transactions yet csshback queries always come back with lame responses that are unrelated to the problem.

      • No I haven't gotten the bonus tracked out yet

Pretty sure shop back has some internal problems with Westpac

  • +1

still waiting on the westpac bonus

@gotyourback a number of users including myself have not had the Westpac bonus track. Only the regular cashback has tracked. Can you please help us?

    • +2

Hey @cynical17 @InfamousCalf@apcichosz@Crownanchor@USER DC. We hear you. We've informed the team to investigate the missing Westpac Bonus tracking issue for everyone. If the Westpac Bonus still isn't tracked after 72 hours, shoot us an email at [email protected] so we can investigate for you directly.

      • Yeah bonus Westpac again didn't track yet.

Hopefully it tracks again by itself soon.

Don't really wanna be emailing support again

        • @gotyourback Can confirm still not tracked mate, hate going through email process again and again. Can't there be an easier way for bonus to just track properly??

      • no westpac bonus, email sent.
