  • I still haven't played the cheaper version if this yet so I'm going to hold off. Pretty decent price though!

    • Cheaper version?

Horizons of Spirit Island features the core mechanisms of Spirit Island, but features a new double-sided game board with a streamlined set-up, punchboard components, and five new Spirits designed to be ideal for those playing a Spirit Island game for the first time. These new Spirits are compatible with all existing Spirit Island components, but to play with expansions like Jagged Earth, you would need a copy of Spirit Island itself.

So it features all the core, but not all mechanisms that are in Spirit Island. It's like a stripped down version?

@pizzaguy: Yeah. Stripped down rules wise and some cardboard parts instead of the regular components. It was a Target exclusive for a while.

From what I gather it's a good entry point for newbies or teaching tool if you want to introduce Spirit Island to your friends.

I think I got it for under $30. I wanted to play it first and see if I like it before possibly getting the proper version. I can always use it to teach others down the track.

Great co-op board game, base game feels lackluster once you've tried the expansions though.

    Still, highly recommended game.

  • +3

This game is an excellent moral counterweight to all the colonial/settlement and capitalist/resource exploitation games.

    • -4

Believe it or not the moral counter weight to injustice is not revenge and hurting back. Living in sustainable harmony would be the moral alternative not exterminating those you deem wrong and their families out of some sense of guilt or justice with god on your side.

      • Yeah except you're playing gods not people

        • -1

Oh that's way better I'll tell my kids gods should kill the British and Swedish as a moral counter weight becaue of the bad things they did 200 years ago. How are you guys saying this is a moral lesson lol.

          • +3

@Kommodore: The game makes it relatively clear you're not playing the good guys. Half the powers end up killing the indigenous population as well, who at best you show apathy about and at worst you actively send to deaths.

          • @Kommodore: Because they blight the land and kill natives? Self defence? It's not like they're massacring some innocent, hapless Englishmen and Swedes minding their own business…

    • +4

Funnily enough, that's exactly what the designers were aiming for.

It has the best hook: it's settlers of catan where you play catan.

Man I bought this game but I'm just too stupid to understand how to play it

    • +1

It took me a while. Plus the strategy didn’t seem obvious to me either - which is not a bad thing - first few plays I had no idea what I was doing and got smoked. Once it clicked I got addicted though!

    • Stick with it, you won't regret it. Promise.

Excellent game. Can be played solo as well (best with some unofficial house rules)

    • +1

      Can be played solo

      SOLD.

  • +3

Best board game I've ever played. I've dropped huge amounts of hours into this. If you have the patience to learn the rules but mainly willingness to try and optimise and squeeze out wins when all the odds are against you then you will love this game. The replayability and scalability is huge

Good price this is pretty much the second hand FB marketplace rate
