  • Is this good for PC? I just need a big drive for movies, photos, videos archive storage.

    • It's a sata hard drive. Probably even more reliable then normal hard drive as it's enterprise class.

    • That's what I use mine for.

    • +1

thats what i am using it for as well, i dont have needs for NAS, and i just want more space in PC. if you can fit a 3.5 in your case nowadays, go for it.

otherwise has to be outside of the case which is more involved, coz now you gotta figure out if you just want a simple USB connection with a enclosure, or via Ethernet start doing NAS shit.

      • That NAS shit is too much. i'm starting a DAS with RAID.

  • Thanks OP
    Bought direct $261 still available

Anyone can recommend harddrive enclosure to use with this drive please?

This seems to work with 16TB

  • I got 6* of these a year ago and they were shipped and delivered in 3 days.

Been running 24*7 in the nas since then, no issues, no noise

    • might be the only person I've seen say the complete opposite of them being noisy - no noise at all :o

      • I'd like to say "no noise" as well but they are actually, and it doesn't bother me. Perhaps I like hearing the sound of them working :)

  • $259 today- I could hold off for 2 days. My $6 disappeared in the Forex world

  • Had a line item from WESTPAC which states:
    FOREIGN FEE AUD 15.66
I can never tell when to use my 28 degrees or not, I thought they had a local presence. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

    • +1

This company is in Hong Kong with a foreign payment processor. There's no local presence at all. So yes this was a time to use your 28 degrees card.

      • lol cancelled my order, re-ordered it for cheaper with the 28. Now to see if the refund is returned in full $522 alongside the fee (may have to chase the bank up on that one)

        • +4

Why did you do that for?. You still get slugged for the initial foreign transaction fee. You don't get that back on a refund. You only get what you paid for the product (minus the payment fees charge by the bank). I don't see the bank giving what you paid for the foreign conversion fee back.

          • @hollykryten: Yeah probably not, I couldn't see it in their policies but I'll wait for the refund before I give it a shot with the foreign fee. Won't make that mistake again.

          • +1

@hollykryten: It originally showed it as refunding only the original amount of the HDDs, but when it did process the refund, it processed both the purchase and the foreign transaction fee.

So I got everything back, and got the cheaper HDDs. Win win.

    • Don't worry. You are not the only one. I thought it shows in AUD. And won't be any transaction fee- I got charged $17.81
      Oh well. Now I know.

    • +1

Pro tip - there are heaps of credit cards that don't charge international fees.
Ditch your Westpac card immediately, these fees are a rort.

  • missed it, can anyone tell me the max real world speed of these drives ?
I have 16TB one from a previous deal ($310) on DIY NAS and it saturates 2.5GbE connection and much faster than my local 8TB drive in PC

    • +1

Was the previous deal on an x18? This is what I get on an x16.

Anyone received theirs yet or received a shipping notification?

    • +1

      Nope!
Ordered on the 18th, still hasn't been shipped.
Just says "Confirmed : we have received your order".

Last time it shipped after 1 day (same drives, same quantity).

      Weird.

      • Just got an email with shipping information.
        Patience :)

      • And they arrived today, currently sitting in the NAS syncing the new RAID1 pool :)

        • your a braver man then me.

    • +1

      on the same boat!

Too long waiting to be shipped

      • I asked for refund and the order was cancelled via Paypal as they replied my email that they do not know the ship date yet as the item is out of stock.

        Not happy to wait

    • Same, I came back to this post to check if anyone received a shopping notification. I've been waiting since 18 June. Emailed them yesterday but no response yet.

    • +3

      Got a reply:

"Due to the recent high volume of orders and insufficient inventory in Australia,

we need to prepare the goods for shipment to Australia,So the delivery time is a bit long. Please be patient!"

    • +2

Mine got tracked yesterday. Shipped from Sydney

    • Just got them, ordered on 19th. Really well packed.

      • Did your order ship from Hong Kong or Sydney? Mine shipped from HK on 6th July, AU post hasn't had any tracking update since the parcel left HK on 8th July.

        • I have no idea as I wasn't tracking it or anything, I was happy to wait. Maybe wait till end of the week or if you're impatient, just e-mail them. They were pretty responsive to me when I wanted a refund.

          • @mustaful: I am happy to wait too but due to certain circumstances I have to move to another place within 2-3 days, that's why this has been stressing me out, I contacted them but they said they can't redirect parcel once it is in transit and AU Post has no option for redirection since it is an International parcel.

I just hope that AU Post atleast sends delivery update whenever it is delivered, so that I can pick it up.

  • +2

It's back in stock for 259

  • -1

Wouldn't the cost of shipping an RMA drive back to HK negate most savings (worst case scenario)?

    • Apparently it's shipping back to melbourne from previous threads

  • Sucks you have to buy 2

  • Are these supposed to be louder than retail drives? I just cloned my WD Blue 2TB to the 16TB EXOS16 and found it significantly louder and with more vibrations.

  • Title should be updated to price of two

  • +2

Update: got 2 delivered. 1 is making constant mechanical noises even at idle- died next day. Email communication has been really good. They even paid the return shipping to a PO box in Vic. Now waiting to my replacement to be delivered Monday.

    • So these aren't tested at all?

      Honestly, that's very concerning.

      • +1

Why would they be tested ? They're being sold as "new" drives.
How would you even test a drive through the sealed packaging ?

        • +3

If you believe these are new drives, lol.

Side note its pretty easy to buy a repackage machine…

I'd highly recommend anyone buying one of these run a check disk, not only will it potentially find issues, it will give it a good workout over 16 hours… hopefully any issues will become apparent.

These will be refreshed drives from server farms.. at best, they will be the standby drives.

          • @wisc: Never trust anything from mainland China or outskirts China is my motto

        • C'mon man….

  • +1

I know this is an old post, but I bought one of these drives and performed SMART self-tests and a burn-in test with badblocks (which writes 4 different patterns to the drive and tests that it can read them) as recommended on TrueNAS forums.

It took a long time (weeks), but the drive passed all the tests without any errors. Hope someone finds this useful.
