    • Cold soups can be delicious - I used to make a tomato and herb soup that was great. Wish I could find the recipe.

    Boring…. Just Eurasian options.

    • What are other options?

      • Pozole, locro, moqueca, ajiaco (Latin America)
Lentil soup, harira, (mid east)…. Haven’t tried African soups but I’m sure there are many.

  • Wanted to select chicken noodle but fat finger selected chicken and corn.

the soup inside soup dumplings "Xiao Long Bao"

    • Georgian Khinkali are similar but much tastier and bigger

  • Chose potato and leek soup as it is closest. Technically it is more a potato, bacon and leek soup with a splash of sour cream and fresh thyme at the end to liven it up a little.

Ham hock and veggie soup is great for using up a bunch of veggies. Don't waste those cauli and broccoli stalk/cores as they can be peeled and then diced up - taste great. Oil and salt/pepper the cauli leaves and chuck them in the oven at 180c until roasted and crispy - nice little side snack or chop up and top soup with them.

Chinese style chicken and corn soup is one of the easiest/fastest soups to make and both delicious and good for you.

    • We’ve started replacing sour cream with Greek yoghurt because we usually have yoghurt on hand.

      • Crumbled feta is also a good substitute - great with pea and ham soup!

  • This guy likes soup, you should ask him..

  • Always enjoyed sweet corn soup variants… chicken is the stock standard but I usually throw other veges in (mushrooms, asparagus, even brocolli). And crab meat and sweet corn soup helped get me an A+ in home ec food major.

    Diced sausage and vege soup…mmmm….

  • Eating out soup vs making at home soup are different stories.

That being said, Laska is the One True Answer to this question. Honorable mentions to wonton noodle soup, pho, and French onion.

Now the REAL question is: where is the best Laksa?

    • Dickson Asian Noodle House

  • Impossible to choose one favourite. Ramen, pho, laksa, chicken noodle, French onion, pea and ham if done well are all amazing.

    • +1

Those first few aren't soups, they're soups with food in them.

      • I’m not fussed how they are defined, rather how they taste.

  • +1

    Bat

    • I’m more partial to pangolin soup

      • Or shark fin if pangolins aren't in season.

I have many favourite Chinese soups growing up. but a good pumpkin soup with sour cream and toasted sourdough on the side is chefs kiss

A close contender is when I was sent to Boston for work: I discovered clam chowder. Averaged at least one bowl a day of the stuff.

  • Mushroom and Celery, home made.

  • Soto Ayam

  • Minestrone

  • Butternut. It reminds of growing up in Africa.

Clam Chowder, in a crispy bowl made of bread.

  • Ramen, clam or seafood chowder in a sour dough bread bowl, phò in that order.

  • Bún bò Huế then Laksa then Ramen

  • Kwaey teow.

  • +3

    Borsch (Борщ)

  • At present post time, I just cannot believe pumpkin soup has the same number of votes as laksa (44) and that it’s gotten more than pho (37)

Good butternut pumpkin soup, sourdough and a slab of butter is pretty damn tasty.

Do you have a good recipe? Is it literally blended boiled pumpkin in water/stock?
I make it for a cheap easy healthy meal and it’s ok… but to be a favourite is a hard no .

        • roast the pumpkin along with thyme and garlic and olive oil,. onions and a little potato,

then blend with vege stock,. smoothness depends on blender,

heat over the stove, season to taste and a dash of heavy cream. and some grated parmesan

serve with toasted sourdough bread or miche,

my kids like to dip a toasted cheese sandwich in the soup

          • @Archi: Thanks that actually sounds a bit more interesting than how I cook it ^_^ will try when pumpkin is $1kg again

        • roast the butternut or pumpkin first. makes all the difference.

thai pumpkin soup is tasty, but better than laksa, no

    • 24hrs later and I see that pho has well surpassed laksa which is fair play. But seriously, pumpkin is now at the top?! 😂😂 so surprised!

  • I remember Campbell’s Oyster soup. Sounds gross, but it wasn’t too bad.

  • Hale and Hearty’s Mulligatawny.

  • Soup in a cup?

  • New England clam chowder in a sour dough roll. One of the few foods I look forward to when visiting the US.

    • remember buying so many cans of the stuff from Boudins in SF to bring home,

      now i just make it.

      • yeah I make too, But can't beat what you can get in San Fran or down on the docks in Seattle.

        • Quincy markets in central Boston for me. Clam chowder at its best with a side of lobster roll dipped in clarified butter

  • Portuguese soup called Caldo Verde (green soup)

  • Used to be Baxters oxtail soup but you can’t get it anymore.

  • Cassava. Rare in Australia, but super popular in Brazil.

    • in Vietnam, not as a soup but used in making lots of sweet treats

      • Yes, I know. I have some Vietnamese friends and they told me that. In Brazil it's the opposite: cassava is essentially savoury, commonly as a side dish for meat. I like deep fried cassava more than hot chips.

        • I once tried cassava pasta because it's low carbs. Absolutely foul. I look forward to trying it in a proper context

  • Faux Shark Fin soup with Abalone

  • For those that picked ramen, I assume not in Australia

  • Combination short soup from chinese restaurant down the road

  • Thai curry coconut pumpkin soup with some nice Asian chilli crisp stirred in. Absolutely amazing.

  • Chinese soups. 'Buddha jumps over the wall' soup.

the Asian options in the list are broth, not soup.

  • Ramen should be listed! If you're including Pho, then at least Ramen.
Solid choice are pea & ham and pumpkin though.

    • Ramen IS listed

What’s missing is Udon… my favourite is tempura udon !

  • Medium turkey chilli.

.. excuse me, I think you forgot my bread.

    You want bread? $2.

$2? But everyone got bread in front of me.

    No soup for you!

  • Prefer stews. More versatile.

  • Turkish Lentil Soup

  • Cold cucumber
    Corn and crab chowder
    Mulligatawny

    • Glad I'm not the only one that enjoys a cold soup.

  • Szechuan soup!!!

BunBoHue is the most elite soup, you can't convince me otherwise.

  • Cup a soup

  • Alphabet soup

  • I tried the Campbells Chilli-Beef soup for the first time last week as it was on offer at $2.25, and have to say I was very impressed.

I prefer hearty soups rather than the weak liquidy ones and this was certainly rich and thick - perfect for our current cooler weather.

You cant beat home made soups for authenticity but for convenience this certainly hit the spot.
