    • I changed over recently to one of these cheap ones from 100AH AGM to save weight. It works a treat. Mine is a very basic setup with folding solar panels and no 12V charger as its a simple wind-up (I just go places and setup for a week, I dont do big roadtrips). Had to change over my MPPT solar charge controller to a victron on my foldable panels as the old one wasn't delivering high enough voltage. I still just charge the battery with a CTEK MXS5.0 and it appears to work OK. Probably only gets to 95% charge but that is enough for me anyway.

    Not sure the difference between pouch and prismatic, would this be ok mounted in the bow of a boat slapping on waves or potentially dangerous?

    There is absolutely no point in pushing LiFeP04 x4 cells above 14.0V the BMS top end cutoff V will be very close to 14.4V (3.6V per cell). Many manufacturers say 14.4V as full charge but forget to say that it's not safe to keep them at this level, particularly if you have poor quality cells, no active balancer and no way of knowing what the voltage of each cell is. LiFeP04 can float nicely at 13.7- 13.8 24/7 without issue and you are at 90-95% capacity. With a large useable capacity of LiFeP04 this is a small price to pay (losing 5% capacity) to gain longevity. 14.4V recommended by manufacturer's is an absolute practical top end limit but is not advised in the real world, If you have a charger that works with a constant top end voltage don't go above 14V.

        Yes, if the cells and BMS (balancing) are decent quality. This is the cutoff during charging. Cells should quickly settle back to around 13.8V.

        I think you will find that victron LiFeP04 charger will have a profile, absorption will be 14.2 and this maybe maintained for a set period ?minutes, then voltage will drift down and float at 13.7 and if the load is greater than capacity of the charger and voltage drops to 13.3V the whole cycle begins again pushing voltage to absorption 14.2V. Many of the DC DC chargers have a charge profile like this. As long the voltage doesn't stay at 14.2V

      It can power things for a period of time and be recharged. It's basically a rechargeable battery.

    I am very astounded that its free shipping with the battery, that thing is heavy! So in essence its not just $195 for the battery, shipping would have been roughly $40 too for this weight.

    • You can get bulk discount rates, when you are with Sendle or AusPost,
      but yes, with eBay fees, postage fees and the overhead costs,
      profit margins are quite slim.

  • Did someone get this battery - what is your experience? Suspiciously low price for this capacity and quality.

    • I've been using one for 4-5 months now. No issues and charging 80% cycles twice a week.

    • The gentrax 200ah deal has a thread with a lot of testing done. So far, looks good, is slightly above rated capacity. BMS wouldn't match up to higher grade batteries but works well for camping stuff for me!

      2 sets of 2 parallel set up, both charging up to 95% and discharging down to 20% every day

      • What's the max constant current with 2 in parallel? Can you get to 200amp/2400w?

        • Not sure if it can pull 200amps cause my inverter is only 1000w; I paralleled them for capacity, not for current draw.

          Max continuous current I run is 50A, but that's during charging; essentially I charge them up fast (OVO 11am-2pm free power) then draw down slowly.

          When charging 50A, I've observed that current is very well balanced across the 2 batteries; this was measured with a clamp meter.

            • @bargainshooter: Yes theoretically, but I never ran them that high, I only have a fridge and a TV running off of it, they never pull 1kw

  • Do these batters off gas or produce any toxic fumes that I should worry about? I ask cause I would like to replace my old AGM battery in my van, but I sleep in there and in winter there is usually minimal air flow.

    • For anyone reading along, I did my googling and apparently these batteries are safe. They don't catch fire and they don't off gas.

      • Yes, LiFEPO4 or lithium in general doesn't off gas under normal circumstances.

        However if punctured, neglected or treated out of spec, they can off gas and/or fail catastrophically.

        • They can get thermal runaway if not managed properly or esp if damaged. Very rare but worth reading about.

    • No, it's NOT a starter battery and probably wouldn't survive under your bonnet anyway. There are LFP starter batteries but they're ex$pen$ive.

    • I've ordered one and plan to install at the rear of my 4x4 wagon away from the engine bay as an adjunct to my existing under bonnet auxillary battery.
      You're far better off sticking with your reliable lead acid batt for your starter.

    I got two of these the black friday before last and then they were around $250, with black and gold branding. I immediately ripped them apart and upgraded the BMS to another new JBD, but this time with Bluetooth and the ability to connect in series. I capacity tested them both, one came out at just under 90ah and the one at 105ah. Either way, you pay for what you get and so far, I am happy with their performance and what I paid in the end.

    • I'm interested to know where you got your JBD parts from mate and this sounds like an interesting upgrade project.

    • Interested in the replacement BMS too.

      I got one a little while back (the black and yellow 110Ah) which I capacity tested at around 120Ah.
      The only thing is it has a 50A BMS, be good if could replace it with a 100A.
