LG Qube HU710PB CineBeam Projector $1495 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

70

RRP: $2500, next best price seems to be LG themselves at $2000. 40% off a new portable (1.5kg) 4K projector that was only released some months ago. Can project to 120" with a throw distance slightly greater than 3m. But most reviews say for best picture quality 80" is good.

Other LG projectors are also heavily discounted:

0.47" DMD so native resolution is 1920x1080

500 ANSI is a bit low.

    • Yep, a review from projectorcentral website

This projector offers UHD resolution of 3840x2160 via use of the Texas Instruments DLP 0.47-inch XPR (Expanded Pixel Resolution) chipset to produce 8.3 million discrete pixels. This chipset takes a DMD with native 1920x1080 resolution and applies a four-phase pixel shift to reproduce the full 3840x2160 resolution in each frame of UHD video.

My opinion is while it is neat and indistinguishable from real 4K that DMD chip will be working really hard on itself inside of a small unit. Not too sure on the lifespan on that chip, cross fingers it won’t do DMD chip failure having white pixel dots all over the place.

      • Interesting. LG does provide a 3 year warranty for projectors, FWIW.

  • Feel like I dodged a bullet not buying it with discount offer during its pre-order a month ago….I went for Hisense C1 instead, much bigger unit (and price), but so far the performance is great. Though…for some odd reason, the project starts "blinking" (gone dark for a fraction of second) so might need to bring it back to JB…

    • Projectors "blink" for a second as you say when the signal is interrupted. Check your cables as a first step and make sure they are good quality.

      • Interesting, but it blinked when I used Netflix airplay to the projector though? So technically, there isn't any cable involved…?

        • +1

If that's happening then your projector might be blinking as it switches to the 4K HDR stream although I doubt using airplay would have the bandwidth for it?

Does it happen only on the first loading or intermittently while playing? It may be a wifi issue, you will know if you use a cable connection and see if the problem is replicated.

          • @Homerlovesbeer: It happened intermittently and just yesterday it blinked seconds after it booted up to the home page…

Will take it to JB to get them swap another one if possible…will see how it goes..

            Thanks for the response!
