Recommendation for Laptop Docking Station for Multiple Monitors That Is Also Useable with iPad Air 6?

Hi guys, I am hoping to get some recommendations on a suitable dock for the following setup:

1) a Lenovo T14s with its screen working alongside at least 2 x monitors output (one of which is a 4k display, the other one/two screens can be 1080p). The Lenovo is currently the laptop but in a year or 2 i might upgrade to something else - probably another Lenovo or a Dell.

2) An ipad air 13 - from my research it appears that it can only support 1 x external monitor - a bummer - but ok - I will live with it.

Many people suggest the Dell docking station, while many others suggest the Lenovo ones. I also got a bit confused because the ipad might need thunderbolt USB-C ports?

Any recommendations please?

Thanks

  • Just give up on the iPad.

    • yes ok. if the ipad is not part of the equation - what would be a recommended docking station?

I have both a Dell D6000 and Lenovo Gen3 docks.

For some reason the Lenovo updated its firmware and stopped my ultrawide running at 3840x1600. So I got thw Dell. No issues except the TB cable is fixed, but may be replaceable on other models.

        • Thanks bro. I check that the D6000 can do a single 4k at 30hz and 2 monitors at FHD. Do you know if you can use 3 x monitors concurrently as your notebook display?

@jeeg: I have a 38" at 3840x2160 75Hz (DP) and a 24"1080p 60Hz (HDMI) connected to the D6000. Also able to use (all at once) laptop screen and a USB-C 17.3" portable monitor from the 2 USB-C ports on my T14s (10th gen Intel i5 with Intel graphics).

            • @Mechz: Thanks again. Are you using the 38" at 30hz? Also the D6000 is rated 65W…would you reckon i should get a dock that is higher rated to be more future proof?

                @jeeg: 38" runs at 75Hz and all 3 other screens at 60Hz.

There's a good price (22% off with ebay plus) on this newer TB4 model, does 90w & dual 4k 60Hz

                Dell WD22TB4

                • @Mechz: Thanks mate. I will check out the WD22.

I previously had a setup with 2 external monitors and laptop using a Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Dock. I'm now just using just a laptop and ipad air as external monitor.
The Lenovo dock has 2 x DisplayPort for your external monitor.
I use this app to connect ipad as external monitor: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/twomon-se/id1420380805

Pretty sure you could use 2 monitors, laptop screen and ipad all at the same time if you really wanted to.
