  • Even at this price, still seems expensive (I guess the 'Apple tax')

  • +8

Same price as Big W, Dick Smith's and The Good Guys.

But if any of those happen to drop their price, even by $1, a price match would be good ($25 off)

    • +3

But until they do, this is not a bargain.

  • +2

Not a deal, as thats the standard price at big w, target etc, and you can price match at apple stores as well.

And its online only as well:(

    • +2

Given the convenience of OW store locations (compared to Apple), late opening hours and their return / refund policies, this is probably a good deal for many (along with scienceman's point about their price match policy).

      • +1

The convenience is out the window when its online only, although you do have the option to select local pickup.

Otherwise Big W and Target are probably as common as Officeworks.

      • What's wrong with Apple return/refund policies?

        • Once you bitten the apple, you cannot return it to the fruit shops.
          Oh, you meant Apple…

    • +1

Didn't know you can price match at Apple Store.

  • +2

That's the price that Big W were selling it at. I ended up going back to the Apple Store just to compare. They offered to price match so I got it off them just to save another walk. So just go to Apple if they are near by and they will price match.

    • +1

I think officeworks only beat the price difference by 5%

  • +3

Is this the new iPad, or the new new iPad?

    • In all seriousness I wonder what they will call the next ipad? Not "new new iPad" I hope.

      • The new (2) iPad 5.

  • They just don't want people to go there to price match.

  • +3

So this thing is officially called the 'iPad with Retina display' now is it? Not 'iPad 3rd Generation' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPad_(3rd_generation))? Or is it 'The new iPad'??? WTF?

For Christ sake… Apple's marketing of this product is ridiculous. I just hope when all the 4th gen models are out (incl. cellular models), they are called iPad 4, NOTHING ELSE!

  • ipad 3rd gen = the new ipad
ipad 4th gen = ipad with retina display

so i guess this is the 4th gen ipad.

    • Yep ipad 4 as it has the A6X chip.

      • iPad 4 (cellular) also has 4G capability, none of the others do. That's what I'm waiting for.

    • Both New ipad 3rd gen and 4th gen have retina display.

Difference between the two, the 4th gen has A6x chip and a 1.2megapixel front facing camera. "Everything" else is the same.

It's not a big difference hence the price difference is only around $8-$16 if you can find a retailer still selling the 3rd gen New Ipad.

      • Don't forget the new one uses the new Lightning connector rather than the traditional 30 pin dock connector.

        • That also and also the 10gram difference :)

  • Sorry OP but I am tempted to neg based on your excessive use of exclamation points in the description (! for those from Gen Y)

    • +5

Tempted to neg you for thinking Gen Y don't know what are exclamation points. :) And for those that don't know, isn't it Gen X's fault?

      • +4

I think they know what they are, they just call them 'those like stick things you know, like with the dot on the bottom'

        • +1

OHH, you mean upside down i's?

  • +4

how confusing…. ipad 3 had also retina display….

    • +2

the only difference is the processor so you have to look at the specs each time

      • No doubt someone will be tricked into buying a 3rd gen thinking it's a 4th gen.

      • Faster CPU, better camera, lightning dock connector.

  • price match for 32gb? $636.02 over there, they have a real store.

  • Nice to know (for later OW price-beats), but I call BS on the current price.

  • excuse my lack of knowledge, but may i ask what the difference between the iPads being sold at Officeworks and the iPads sold on Kogan is? Are the Kogan ones grey imports or am I way off?

    • the kogan ones are grey import but it shouldn't matter as Apple has worldwide warranty (i think)

      • That's correct

      • +1

Apple's worldwide warranty isn't really as worldwide as you think it is.
There is a clause in there which allows them to selectively deny warranty in certain countries. For example, Apple in HK will not honor international warranty from iPhones bought in Australia.
