      • I was just approved while holding a $20k Citi Prestige

      • Only a corp card at 7k

      • Auto rejected as well.

Closed the same card late March but my credit report still shows a NAB and Westpac card as being open which I assume is why I was auto rejected. No option to upload any docs or closure letters for those two cards. Just something to remember for future applications through Virgin.

I earn around mid $90K/y and have no open cards at the moment.

        • do you have other loans ie home loans that might be the reason you might be tapped out?

      • Happened to me in February as well. I closed my Virgin money card in December 2023 and was auto rejected by the system in Feb 2024 when I reapplied. No credit enquiry appeared too.

        • When I was approved Feb this year I didn't get credit checked, I was a previous customer last year
Maybe they aren't doing credit checks on previous customers but still must be a mixed bag if you get approved or not

Out of curiosity have you applied this round @babipanggang?

          • @Brick50: I haven't, but I'm kinda tempted to apply. The only issue I suppose is that currently I hold two credit cards, Westpac Black and Citi Rewards.

Tbh when I was rejected back in Feb, I was unsure whether that was because at the time I was recently auto rejected by Citi (which upon sending a formal complaint email, it was then approved). My initial thought was that because Virgin Money was backed by NAB/Citi, their system somehow flagged me.
Around the same time, I was also approved instantly by Westpac. So I was kinda confused as to why I got rejected by Virgin money.

            • @babipanggang: I closed my card approx a week ago, going to apply just before this deal expires and see what happens

It might be worth forgetting to put one of the cards on your application? I’m conflicted on that because last time they definitely didn’t do a credit check but not sure about next time

        • Credit enquiry showed up for me about a week after being auto declined.

          • @Blokeinhisundies: First time having the card?

Can confirm 100% we both got credit checks first time but we both did not get checked out second time feb this year

            • @Brick50: No. Closed the card in March and thought I'd have another crack for the bonus points. Was auto declined before I could upload payslips or any other docs.

              • @Blokeinhisundies: Bugger, not sure then

Hoping my card shows up closed on my report before this deal ends, if I get declined for this one will immediately apply for a different card before credit check hits

                • @Brick50: The hard enquiry is more annoying than anything as I thought I'd be declined anyway. Only applied because I saw someone else comment they had no credit check as well.

I ended up being approved for a STG Amplify Platinum card (50K points, $3000 spend in 90 days) and have a pending application for ANZ Rewards Platinum (70K points, $2000 spend in 90 days) which also qualifies for this 30K bonus point promotion according to the Velocity website although I would never apply with ANZ again. The process has been horrendous and after two weeks I am still none the wiser as to whether I will be approved or not. Do not recommend lol.

                  • @Blokeinhisundies: My partner just finished the bank of melb amplify qantas platinum which was 60k points, 3k spend and we were meant to receive an annual fee refund too although that hasn't come through yet.

I was excited when I saw that ANZ "rewards platinum" card, as I am cooling down from both ANZ Black FF card & ANZ Platinum visa card and it seems to be its own card with own cooldown periods.

However unfortunately I do not think it is eligible for the 30k bonus, I believe the website is quite misleading as under the other cards it shows either 30k or 10k bonus points but does not mention it for that ANZ card.

ANZ you always have to call and try and argue with their offshore call centre and try to explain what a financial year is, why it doesn't start in January and everything else there is to know, You won't get approved unless you keep calling basically until they approve you over phone.

                  • +2

@Blokeinhisundies: I do not think that ANZ Rewards Platinum will give the the 30K bonus points - as its not a "direct earn" card.

                    • @JohnSy: DIdn't matter in the end anyway. They rejected me lol

Have to take a break for a few months from churning.

    • i closed mine in april. considering applying lol

      • Did you end up applying again?

    • I closed my Virgin card a week ago. Too early to re-apply?

Can't apply for Amex, WPC nor NAB cards (still serving cooling down period).

      • Would like to ok know also

        • Keen to know also, closed mine couple days ago. Commenter above said they were approved 2 days after closing previous one, anyone who tries please get back to us

  • How long does it take for this bonus to come through?

I applied for the one at the start of the year and then went with the amex velocity platinum card. Finished the required spend and got the 120k points through amex but I haven't gotten the 30k points from this offer?

    • It comes through with your first lot of points usually

    • in the exact same boat!

I've also escalated this with VFF on the phone a number of times, and there's still nothing being done. I'm sure they'll come through at some point, but it's pretty appalling

  • Just received my Virgin card. Will I be eligible if I activate it today?

    • No. You need to apply in offer period, no activate. But give them a call and ask if they can still apply a bonus to your card.

Why is no one talking about the $129 Virgin Australia Gift Voucher with the $74 Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card?

      Yeah looks great!

      • Has this always been a feature of this card?

        • yes

    • Only if you use it. I have wasted the last 2 i have. TBF i had 3-4 virgin money cards in a year.

      • What…why not sell them on classifieds?

        • How do you do that? I thought I read somewhere on ozb that you cant advertise these types of things?

          • +1

@cathalm8: You can't make an ad to sell, but can make an ad to buy.

            • @txb: "You can't make an ad to sell", but didn't you say you sell them on classifieds?

So just double checking, could we sell our virgin gift voucher, is it hard? what is it mainly used for besides price of flights?

              • @RQNinja: I sold them when someone made an ad wanting to buy..?

  • +1

How do we activate this? I can see the offer but nowhere to activate in the app or browser

  • Does anyone know where I can check the date of closure for my previous Westpac credit card?

I received an email on 26/7/2023 confirming the closure and it says “Your account is marked for closure and your card has been deactivated. A confirmation letter will be sent to you.”

I’m guessing the date of the letter is the closing date but I don’t have it anymore and want to apply for this bonus offer

    • +2

Try Wisr (free credit checking file checking) they give you insight into your Experian and Equifax credit files. It will include all the cards and credit checks you've ever had with open and close dates.

      • Amazing thank you!! Hasn’t been 12 months for me yet unfortunately :(

  • Velocity has terrible redemptions, where you guys flying?

    • +3

Convert to Singapore airline points, they have a lot of flights to and return from Asia even around Christmas

    • Depends on the routes I guess but I've gotten so much utility out of my velocity stash, even during peak travel season. Redeeming J to/from the US is piss easy, tokyo on ANA J is also easy, EU availability is a little challenging. You just gotta be flexible, it's a plus if you're somebody who can do last minute trips for example planning 2-4 weeks out.

      • +1

        Thanks fellas :)
        Given me some inspo

        • +3

No worries! I'll give you some more inspo - 2 months back I chucked a sickie at work, flew out to tokyo the same night (in biz), back to work 5 days later like nothing happened : D Night flights so slept 6-7 hours on both legs, worked out beautifully.

          • +1

@adam7070: You're an addict, japan addiction is a real thing. i'm on my third trip over in 2 years.

      • What's your Velocity status? I struggle with anything beyond economy, and you can forget buying flights that involve transferring to domestic connections in the USA.

        • +1

No status unfortunately. I find it difficult to find flights to&from USA in business earlier than 6-8 weeks, exception being bne-sfo and syd-iah last year, which I remember finding 3-4 months out.

I'd say that's one of the limitations of velocity, being unable to connect onwards in USA/Canada. Aeroplan happily allowed me do YYZ-SFO-SYD in J last month on one ticket but velocity didn't, even though the availability was there.

          • @adam7070: I find it impossible to get any business class seats during school holidays. Getting stick and tired of trying tbh

      • How are you J on ANA? I've looked at it months out and can't even find a single award seat.

    • I last used mine for PER-MEL and MEL-SFO, but got much more use from Qantas points with DXB-PER 1st, YVR-LAS, LAS-DFW, DFW-NYC, NYC-LIM business, PMO-LHR-PER business.

      • I'm guessing NYC-LIM on AA/Latam? QFF definitely has a lot of utility.

        • Yeah, LATAM.

All flights in the same order as above:
Virgin, United, Emirates, WestJet, AA, AA, LATAM, BA. The last one should read PMO-LHR-DBX

Emirates was obviously the best, but BA was nice. LHR-DBX was delayed 23 hours, so they reimbursed up to $400 for a hotel, $70 for food, plus travel costs and gave me $1000 compensation.

      • How many points did that set you back all up?

        • 378400 points plus taxes

    • 29k GRU to CPT on South African in economy
112k CPT-xSIN-MEL on Singapore airlines in biz

    • Hamilton Island

    • +1

Last week I booked a Jakarta-Doha flight on Qatar business class for December holidays, and then Doha-Tbilisi on Economy. For the return leg, I redeemed Istanbul - Sydney on SQ premium economy on the first week of Jan 2025

  • +2

Thanks OP approved for velocity flyer within 10 minutes, 4th time around churning this card.

    • What time did you apply for the cc?

      • +1

        4pm~

        • +1

That’s efficient! Churned this card earlier this year (closed in Feb) I was conditionally approved at ~1pm and submitted supporting docs. Hopefully will get approval soon!

          • +2

            @Crowing: fingers crossed amigo!

          • @Crowing: Update: Application has been approved.
I applied for this deal when it was on in Nov-23 and closed account in Feb-24. Applied again in Mar-24 when promo was on again but got rejected straight away. Been 4 months since rejection and approved this time

          • +1

@Crowing: wait they don't have 12 months cooling period like others?

    • How long between the time you closed the cars and applied for the next?

      • the same card? 3 months

        • wait they don't have 12 months cooling period like others?

  • +4

Has anyone applied for 2 cards at different companies to avoid telling them about each others cards? I always pay mine at the due date so not worried about too many cards but they are so stringent nowadays.

    • +1

This is the way. They usually flag a credit inquiry a few days after application so I always do 2 applications at a time.

      • +1

Ah cool cheers. I tried it last week and it worked.

        • +1

I've did 4 in the space of 1 week. All 4 got approved.

          • @nightelves: No way, nice one. Good to know.

            • @bobwokeup: Apply in batches is the way to go these days. Your credit score will take a beating but will go back to normal after all credit cards are closed.

              • @nightelves: Yeah makes sense. I’m also not worried about my credit score as I know it’ll even out in the long run. 2 cards are enough for me though haha

            • +1

@bobwokeup: Can also say +1 to multi applications. Applied and approved for 3 cards this week.

              • @txb: Nice, will have to get onto that next time.

  • Are you eligible for the Westpac cards if you closed their Qantas Black Card recently? T&C doesn’t mention Qantas cards under eligibility, not sure.

    • According to the Westpac t&c, you cant get their bonus offer unless 12/18months after closing period.

      • Yup read the T&C again, thanks mate

  • +2

American Express is down to 60k points again

    • Ended up revisiting the page this morning, personalised offer of 70k points - pushed me over the edge.

      70 + 30 - 100k point for the Amex seems like a good deal!
Ended up applying to my first CC hopefully all comes through easily

  • "Oops - something went wrong"

Got this error when I tried to apply for the Virgin Money Flyer card the last 3 times this 30k bonus promo was run.

Each time CS would say it's a technical issue they're aware of and to try again in 24 hours… over and over again.

I must be blacklisted, or their systems are hopeless.

    • +1

Try disabling ad blockers. Disconnect your VPN if you’re on one. Try in a private/incognito window.

      • Yeah did all that :(
Even grabbed an old laptop, installed a new copy of Windows and ran it from a different internet connection

    • +2

Is that in the section employment details? Try pressing save and exit instead of continue. That worked for me..

      • Incredible… that worked

    • Could be your address

    • Also getting this issue (16th June) none of the above fixes worked for me - anyone else getting stuck here?

      • +1

I did 2x things and then it worked so I'm not 100% sure what it was.

        1. Manually enter my address instead of using the address picker
        2. Save and exit the application at the step where it asks for your employer name. Immediately re open the application and continue as normal
        • Yep thanks, restarting the application with a manual address worked… weird. Cheers!

  • Does anyone know what "existing customer" means in the context of Westpac. Is it as simple as signing up for a checking account and then immediately applying for a card?

    • Pretty much that.

    • Just sign up for a profile instead of creating any account.

  • +1

why on earth i signed up for the high flyer instead of just the flyer card in the previous deal is beyond me. Anyone know if virgin does annual fee refunds?

Planning to close my high flyer virgin card on 4/7. Does this give me enough time to re-apply for this deal?

  • Does anyone know if Virgin Money are still offering 5k bonus points for holding off uploading docs for a few days once approved?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14458411/redir

    • +1

Yes, they still offered me 5k extra points when I applied last month.

    • I got this offer unexpectedly yesterday when I called up to confirm something to do with the document upload.
