Seems like a pretty decent price for a new release iPad - cheaper than $919 via AOC education store.
Need to pay with Zip Pay.

Besides no Promotion (so 60hz instead of 120hz), and fewer speakers (2 instead of 4), and a few other QoL features, the new Air M2 is basically what we used to call an iPad Pro up until very recently. It was a pretty major refresh for the Air.
I just got one along with probably hundreds of other ozbargainers.
The only downside so far is yeah the lack of promotion and the lack of FaceID. Otherwise a very fast and nice machine.
Oh yeah FaceID. TouchID is an adjustment, but I found FaceID struggled to work with the Magic Keyboard case, always bobbing my head about trying to catch it. Maybe it has a wider angle camera nowadays on the M4 Pro tho.
@AustriaBargain: Ironically after the brouhaha about finally making the camera on the landscape edge for videoconferencing, I find Face ID doesn’t work as seamlessly as I often have the camera obscured by my hand.
Honestly the slow ass pixel response time on my iPad Pro makes the promotion almost useless, it's definitely nicer than 60Hz…but like come on Apple. I hope they've fixed it in newer models but doubt it.
I wouldn’t worry about ProMotion… the flicker-fusion threshold of the human eye varies from 60-90Hz depending on the individual. People at the lower end of that range won’t see any advantage from refresh rates above 60Hz.
120Hz is well beyond what the human eye can reliably perceive. Anything beyond 90Hz only exists for marketing purposes.
@axyh: lol lets not do the "human eye can't see past 120hz" please. I am writing this from a 144hz monitor and can see the difference.
@theguyrules: Congratulations! There are always statistical outliers.
I can't see any noticeable difference between games running at 30Hz or 60Hz, so I'm clearly at the other end of the spectrum.
@axyh: Don’t worry. He must have more than 20/20 vision. Probably plays too many fast action games to get off on, and using VR headsets to use while playing as such.
I would definitely get the M2 IPP over the new M2 Air for the reasons you mention. Daughter has the M1 Air and the lack of pro motion is noticeable.
Doesn't Pencil Pro make the M2 Air worth it though?
@AustriaBargain: Maaaybe. The pro motion screen though outweighs it for now I would say. Really notice that scrolling, and it helps battery life. A lot of apps have yet to be updated to really take advantage of the pencil pro so once that happens my view might change.
Most M4 iPad Pro owners just buy the M4 for the OLED screen alone. They don’t really care about M4 given iPads only run iPadOS which cannot utilise the full power of the M series chips.
the m4 iPad would be worth the money if it had mac os on it. with out it the hardware is a waste.
I have a 1TB iPad Pro M2 (because 1TB models and above came with 16GB ram) and calling it a "fabulous machine" is a joke. It is an oversized iPhone and has hardly changed since day one when Jobs first pulled it out of his ass. I only bought this to play a couple games, use salary sacrifice and do some note taking of which the default Apple Notes app is a complete joke.
Definitely buy the Air if you must get a useless iPad running the most useless modern OS known to man.
iPads are wildly over-specced for what the vast majority of people do on it. I'm in the same boat, mostly a note-taker for work. I'm on a Gen 3 Air and it still mostly does what I need it to.
Try telling that to a friend of a mate of mine, who loves playing with himself on games and thinks that having a bigger tablet than the 13” — he’ll buy it straight away.
For most people there is negligible difference between the 2018 iPad pro and the m4, it was that overpowered. The software is what holds the iPad back.
even though the hard ware is over kill for an ipad being limited by the software itself, i would have to say if you do any kind of writing with the pencil or editing of photos or drawing you need that pro motion display is just the best experience you will get with an apple pencil. But if you don't use the apple pencil I would stick with the M2 ipad. or even the ipad air m1.
The iPad Air M1 is sufficient for 95% of things you can do on an iPad. And it was $600 just a few days ago.
You get more than just a better chip for the extra ~$200 from this deal though. 128gb storage, improvements in other areas (albeit small) and longer support. If you are keen on keeping the tablet long term then this could arguably be a better deal. Over powered M2 chip will be a blessing as the tablet ages and new updates become more resource hungry.
This is the first discount on new iPads that I have seen.
Will Officeworks price match? I want the 13.
Edit
What the hell is Zip?
Unfortunately no and a worse version of Afterpay. I can’t recommend signing up for it unless you already have an account tbh.
Thanks, I'm out.
Not jumping through hoops then paying fees.
I was about to sign up for the discounts. Whats wrong with it
For a start there is a $7.95 monthly fee.
@Grok: Only if you have a balance on it, zip is shit, but don't spread misinformation
@SuBw00FeR: It's a fact there is a fee.
The correct Fact Checking term is "Needs context"
Keep in mind that you get approved for up to $1,000.. in my case $350, no real logic to it as they didn’t ask for payslips etc.
@Marrk: I wanted the 13 which would be over the limit in any case.
I will wait for a better deal
@Grok: I bought the 13 just now. It's fine if it's over the $1000 limit, the rest will be charged to your linked card.
@Grok: Use gift cards to skip signing up to zip pay. Select zip pay as the payment option then add the gift cards - you still get the discount
@Grok: The AOC deal is quite decent, especially if you can find 10% off Apple gift cards. I got the 11 in iPad Air M2 and quite happy with it so far.
can you share something about Afterpay, not sure how these BNPL work
Seems like can be paied off with giftcard?
I sincerely hope that ARM based windows takes off so we get better tablets then current Android offerings.
Which should also pressure Apple to enable the MacOS on M(x) iPads
Damn, this is a great price considering what people want to charge for their 1-2 year old iPads on Marketplace!
zip has credit check right ? Unlike afterpay.
Yes
I can not use code FYZ15. Must I have Zip link to Ebay or something?
It’s only valid with the Zip payment method.
Still the jb-hi-fi deal last week was so good ,
don’t know why more people didn’t jump on it ,
and getting your first month of mobile data refunded from Telstra ,
You would have paid $479 for a iPad Air 128gb .
And with the education store discount you could have gotten $78 giftcard ,
Effectively making the price $400 .
So good , and people were doing this multiple times .
And I thought all the amazing deals on ozbargain were a thing of the past .
Still available isn't it? Didn't see it last week but tempted to visit JB tomorrow
It was only until the 5th June.
As long as iPAD still runs the crippled iPadOS, It will never fully utillise the CPU power of M series.
Still running an M1 iPad Pro 11”, and can’t think of anything that would warrant more power than this for a mobile/tablet OS for the prices being charged.
Refresh rates on the Air are lower, and cameras are worse but who takes the sort of pictures or videos on an iPad that warrant the upgrade?
This is serious tablet power that will last you 5+ years, by which time there will possibly even be a way to emulate MacOS or Windows (both of which I run via Jump Desktop, remotely to physical machines) more often than I use either.
When iPads hold value better then currency
Albo's Apple
The iPad is essentially a large screen for entertainment purposes, suitable for games, Netflix, YouTube, and other media consumption. In this case, the M4 chip's processing power would be excessive and unnecessary.
Haha, the irony! Some people are trying to sell their used iPad Pro M2 on Facebook Marketplace for a higher price than the brand new iPad! Guess they're hoping someone will buy into the 'pre-owned prestige
Gave up my work IPP M2 for my own M4.
Seriously while the M4 has an absolutely awesome screen and is definitely snappier, has double the storage and the pencil pro is very much better than the pencil 2;
The difference is not worth the extra $600 you would pay over the M2 at this price, which also has an awesome screen and does everything my M4 does just as well.
Don’t get me wrong, the M4 is a fabulous machine, but If I was buying today it would be this M2.
Let’s see what ipadOS 18 does when it is announced tomorrow.
