I’ve got one of these. Seems to work well, we use it because we live in the sticks and have a woodheater that often spurts out smoke when we’re open it to put more wood in. And the air smells clean, not smoky with it on. Only use it sometimes.
It has a ring led that changes colour of the air is measured to be clean or not. I’ve found this works. You can run it on auto and it’ll bump up the fan if it detects pollution, otherwise set the fan speed. The fan is pretty powerful on high! On auto it’s really quiet.
This particular air purifier is i think the top rated one on ProductReview, which is why i bought it.

Only gripe is that it does not automatically turn back on when power is restored (if you're thinking of placing it behind a smart plug).
Yep - plus the air quality light can't be turned off unless you activate sleep mode. The machine doesn't react to air changes in sleep mode, nor does it have a light sensor, so it's a manual change each morning and night.
Yeah, that gets me too. I've came to terms that I will have to manually interact with the air purifier every day. And if I want more than sleep mode air purification, I place a coaster on the center ring to block out the light.
ETA: FWIW, it's a decent air purifier for a small space. I purchased mine from Amazon back in March when they were running a free filter add-on with every purifier purchase for $199.
Which is better this Winix compact 4 or Philips 1000 AC1215?
My answer is based on Winix only.
The winix one is working fine.
It automatically kicks in and increases its power when you are cooking or change in air quality. You can see the change in air quality soon.
You can barely hear the purifier running during normal operation.
