Pretty good deal, but no 5G yet on vodafone

    • +13

If 5G is a must then take the Vodafone pack at Woolies. 240GB for $150.

    • Outside Melbourne, Vodafone 4G is shocking. Difficult connection, and slow speeds.

      • I lived 3 years in Geelong and have never seen such dependably fckoff good speeds as when I was with Kogan

        • Were you on the long expiry plan? I believe 5G would be fine, but 4G only isn’t great compared to Optus and Telstra

          • @ozbking: I didn’t have a 5G device at the time, left end of 2018.

12mnth expiry same as here but a twofer deal

          • +1

@ozbking: I have perfect reception on Mornington Peninsula with Felix.

        • +5

I think the moral of the story here every time a voda/optus/telstra plan is posted it’s area dependant. You need to get what’s best for where you live.

      • I'm in Sydney and I'm getting 25 mbps on voda which is useable but not bad.

  • Thanks OP.

Great deal. Seems sale until 30/6 and uses TPG (Vodafone) as carrier.

Does anyone have any good/bad experience with KOGAN and/or Vodafone in suburban Sydney?

    • +12

Vodafone is atrocious in the sydney cbd, i was hitting a speed of 0.01mbps on 5G in martin place.

      • +3

vodafone is the worst, i will never go to them again for this reason. no wonder they have such great deals on there phones, so they can lock you in a 1-3 year contract using there crappy service.

optus is ok, but im back with telstra and will never leave again. i had all and telstra speed is the fastest and most reliable after a year with optus and a few months with vodafone. i only had a few months because i couldn't handle the super slow speeds, why even have internet?

      • +6

my office is near Martin place and Vodafone is quite alright, speedtest 198/32

optus/Telstra consistently have similar download but worse uploads.

also Vodafone have the best reception on T4 lane, beat Optus/Telstra by far

I wonder if your phone doesn't have a specific spectrum?

source: I am a Sim hopper

I’ve tested across aussie bought iphone 14 and s23 ultra. Similar results

      • +2

Few months ago I checked Vodafone 5G speed was around 270/280 Mbps in Millennium Tower near Town Hall Sydney CBD with full signal in the CBD in general. Similar speed in Balmoral beach too not long time ago. Maybe problem with your phone? I have android phone.

I've had Vodafone and Kogan mobile for ages.

City is fine. Worked at Museum, then Barangaroo. And commutted from blue mountains.

Call quality is fine everywhere except inside my office buildings but wifi calling is… Ok

Optus and Telstra users have similar issues where I worked.

      • -2

Wifi calling??? Dude you're not even using their network. You're using whatever internet your building is connected to. Has nothing to do with Voda.

    • +1

I gave Kogan mobile another shot this year after being with them a couple of years ago and am regretting it. Similar issues plague me now as they did back then.

The service is usable, but speed is terrible and connection stability is spotty at best. Thankfully I can use the internet at work and have a good home connection so mobile data only really matters to me when I'm out and about or in transit.

But this also means I use very little of my allocated data and it feels like a waste to lose it if I switch carriers now.

      • +2

We all have Vodafone/kogan except me (Optus). Have no problem in Sydney. About to buy an XL for one kid who uses heaps of data.

      • The service is usable, but speed is terrible and connection stability is spotty at best.

Experienced the same, and i got regular ping spikes to over 1000ms.

    • +3

I've been using Kogan in Sydney for a good 6 or so years now and it's been good for the most part. Sure there are some black spots but by and large I don't have any issues and it's just so much cheaper than any other option for the amount of data you get. My bank didn't believe that I was only spending $18/month on mobile when I sent my expense report to apply for a mortgage.

  • +2

    Cheapest I've seen ever

    • +1

Last year EOFY also same price . I got the $130 last year. Now getting the $150 due to the data is being used more than ever!

The unique Kogan Mobile voucher must be redeemed by 11:59PM AEST on 31/07/2024.

  • +3

Cheap but I Still went with the woolies mobile as they give 10% off grocery bill every month

    • Or just buy this & shop at Aldi instead, winning.

  • The medium 360 plan here has international calling too : https://www.lebara.com.au/prepaid-plans/long-expiry/

  • Is voda the only 5g plan that does not have a cap speed?

    • this plan doesn’t include 5G but it should be uncapped

      • I meant voda prepaid plans, not this kogan plans. So far, I found all other prepaid plans have speed caps on 5G download speed.

  • Oh what a deal. Shame I can't buy it as my plan will expire in December. I wonder if I can stack this? Meaning when my plan expires in Dec, can it continue to this one. I'm with Kogan Mobile atm.

    • +3

      Nah it overrides

  • Can we use this to recharge existing kogan mobile or only new? Mine expires in a month

    • +1

Yeah you can recharge an existing, if you recharge early though it will override your current plan and start the new one immediately

  • +1

Not the best reception (1 bar or 2 of signal the whole year in Sydney CBD) but honestly it does the job and great price
    Thanks op

    • I live in Sydney CBD and use Vodafone, not Kogan mobile. The signal is full. Maybe problem with your phone? Unless you usually stay in basement or underground maybe …

      • Kogan doesn’t get to utilise 5G for their yearly plans so CBD coverage could be 5G not 4G?

        • Maybe only 4G. I haven't used Kogan again. I was sim hopper a lot with many different sim cards previously.

  • +3

thanks! i might try out 2x 500GB ones for 4G home internet for the year. works out to be 83GB/month for $25/month vs current amaysim 80GB/month for $35/month.

    • +3

Isn't Belong $19/month 5G plan better? 300GB Belong Mobile Data Gift for $26, 700GB for $45 and 300GB for $23 are out of stock .

      • how long do the data gifts last after activated

        • no expiry on banked data (unless data only sim in which case 1 month)

      • So get a $19 per month 5g plan then top up with data from eBay.

Assume generally 5g would be faster than a 25Mbps NBN plan?

Worthwhile getting a 4g/5g modem/router to replace NBN? If so, any recommendations?

        • +1

Inseego MIFI X PRO 5G $187.85 with the code FYZ15.

          • @jimojr: Thanks!

Thoughts on (won't hold you to it!):

Assume generally 5g would be faster than a 25Mbps NBN plan?

Worthwhile getting a 4g/5g modem/router to replace NBN?

            • @competitions: download speeds are location dependent. i suggest you test your speeds with a mobile phone before committing to a 4G/5G modem and big data plan

  • Anyone knows how is their 4g reception around Hurstville area?

    • +1

Call Quality was OK and a bit choppy until being on king George's road and then all good. Data Speed was fine.

      • Thanks!

  • I have an existing Kogan Sim, it was on 365 prepaid but expired few weeks ago, I assume I can top up this sim?

    • +1

      Yes, you can.

      • Thank you - purchased!

  • How's the reception between Wynyard and Redfern stations?
I normally deemed it as the dead zone with Woolies mobile.

    • During peak hour, all 3 are really bad there

      • Indeed. It's like a black hole.

        • Yeah. The das system needs to be upgraded. Melbourne has n40 on their city loop on optus

    • Same for me using Kogan. Between those stations it's pretty much unresponsive.

  • Can I use this as a recharge for existing service?

    • Yes you can

  • Anyone know how the service is for Melbourne CBD? Also, in the last Kogan deal, there were posts talking about how Kogan doesn't provide celluar calls, so without a good internet connection you can't make calls… Is this really a thing……… Sounds odd

    • I’ve always found it to be very good tbh, and tho I don’t make it a hobby to whip my phone out for an Ookla test for entertainment like some folks, the odd test that I did do was always impressive.

    • I've never had a problem with the Kogan Mobile service in the Melbourne CBD, or in metropolitan Melbourne. But for some places further out in Victoria, I get no reception at all.

Not sure, but the thing about the calls may be referring to them having VoLTE. I like it because you can use the internet on your phone while in a voice call (which I couldn't really do before they offered VoLTE). I thought all the telcos offered VoLTE now though.

If you have a Westpac credit card, check your offers there may be a $10 off for spending $50 on kogan.com where you can purchase this.

    • Hi junet, can you tell me where you saw this Westpac offer. I can't seem to find it anywhere.

      • Hi, in the Westpac app I select the credit card, scroll to the bottom to find rewards and offers and that's where i found it.

  • Can you use gc for the payment?

    • Yes

  • Does the account the voucher is ordered with have to match the mobile account? or can it be activated on any kogan mobile account?

  • I live in Homebush….. last week when my NBN went down, I couldn't use Kogan hotspot for work. It was a terrible experience, and I had to buy a Boost prepaid plan to stay connected until my NBN issue was resolved

    • I find just past the DFO towards north strathfield station is a blackspot for voda

    • I live in homebush too and to be fair, optus is also pretty garbage in homebush.

  • In a recent transaction, I got a Catch Mobile plan for $109 with 120GB. Should I regret it? 😢

    • +1

Well catch is Optus so might be better reception. Kogan is Vodafone. To be honest for me both work well.

  • Thanks Op, one of the family sims is expiring at the end of July. Such a good deal and will just continue as currently on Kogan.

  • Does anyone know when they have to be activated by? I just renewed my 12 month plan a few weeks ago is al.l Would be happy to buy one for next year at this price! At 500GB I could hotspot off my phone and do away with home internet at $52 a month!

  • Can use this SIM in a mobile router?

    • sure you can.

  • +2

i hate saying this but kogan seems to be the best value as far as Mb goes

i'm on an old 150gb $120 a year plan and mine just ended

bought a 500gb $150 coupon and applied it

    its a neat trick

dont like ruslan but i mean, how can you beat it? you cant

also vodafone coverage seems to be fine in most urban areas

    • Agreed, everyone I've convinced to sign up has stayed on as you can't beat it for the price and 4g + Vodafone coverage is fine for most people.
