  • I picked this lens up from Georges yesterday. They are super helpful there and the price is an ATL i believe. The 50mm 1.2 is a pretty sharp price too but not included in the cashback promo.

    • I got it for a little cheaper ($1290.60 shipped with $150 cashback) using this deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/808897
Shopback was rejected. Not sure if stacked with amex.

Great lens, wish it was my first or second rather than ~7th!

      • Great price. I was close to biting when it was $1450 price but this was a no brainer. I dont even know if i like 35mm focal length. On my canon gear i had 24,50,85.

  • $50 cashback with amex @ Sony store

  • +3

35mm is my favourite focal length.
I had the 35 Sony Zeiss 1.4 before upgrading to the Sigma 35/1.2 which is absolutely stellar.
Unsure how much better the new G is over the Zeiss, but the Sigma 35/1.2 is my favourite lens of all time.

    • +1

Another vote for the Sigma 35 F1.2… mounted on my A7R 90% of the time

    • I would say 35GM is way batter than Sony Zeiss version. I've also tried astrophotography with 35GM, and it is absolutely stunning.

    • but the Sigma 35/1.2 is my favourite lens of all time.

Quite a big size difference so depends on what's more important (e.g. wedding photographer vs someone who wants to take a 35mm backpacking).

      • That’s true, but if I was packing I’d take the A7C II rather than the A7 IV. I’d probably take a 35/1.8 too

    • I also use the Sigma 35mm F1.2 a lot with my A7iii. I use it for low light flash situations and it consistently is able to pick up subjects better on AF-C compared to my other Sony lens such as 50mm F1.4 GM, 24mm F1.4GM or 20mm F1.8 G. I think the bokeh is beautiful with the Sigma too. The only downside is its immense size and weight. If only it was smaller and lighter. I wonder if the Sony 35mm F1.4 GM focuses similarly to the 50mm F1.4 GM. If they are similar, then I would not get the Sony as AF works better with the Sigma on the A7iii in low light situations.

  • This is a great price! But already have the 24/1.4 and 50/1.4, hard to self-convince.

Have the Amex offer too, so effectively $1,113.33.

Still can't really justify having both 24 and 35.

    • +1

The 24 and 35 are quite different in focal length. Por que no los dos?

    • you can easily have a 24mm and a 35mm in your kit but you do you. at the moment I do 28/40/85 for most of my work

    • I’ll help you justify. Buy the 35 and pass the 24 on to me :)

  • Really good price, but need a wider lens :/

  • Terrific price on a top notch lens. Almost makes me want to buy it again.

  • I'd be using this for video mainly, and I've seen some pretty crazy focus breathing on this lens. Is anyone using the Samyang equivalent?

    • The sony 35mm f1.8 has minimal focus breathing.

    • If you have a newish Sony camera it has focus breathing compensation which works well with a slight crop

  • It's a well known fact that you cannot get cashback from Shopback or Cashrewards with price match. Multiple posts have verified this is not possible, and Sony is just out right refusing to honor the cashback and there's nothing anyone can do about this. I will never buy anything from Sony online again because of this.

    • +1

This is not true. I received cashback with price matched multiple times in the past 12 months, the last one being a few months ago. I'm sure others have their own experience but to say it's a fact would be incorrect. I did have issues with it tracking (price matched or not) and had to raise a manual request each time but it's always been approved.

Seems like you are the only one who got it working in the past few months. I will not buy anything from Sony Store because they are a bunch of lying bastards. Much prefer to buy from shops like Georges who do things right by the book.

        • How do you know is not ShopBack or Cashrewards?

If I applied a code it doesn’t get paid. Without code no issues.

And the one you listed is mine, it was with code

          • +1

@snvl: Because I and other people had it declined by both Cashrewards and Shopback. After multiple investigations, both told me it's Sony. No codes were ever used. It was during those special promos with Cashrewards or Shopback with increased cashback offers. So it's a scam by Sony really.

            • @solitude: Ok, my experience has been different.

            • +1

@solitude: In my case, I asked CR nicely to review the matter at least three times over a 6 month period and received a generic response each time. Then I wrote a pretty angry complaint saying that there was nothing in the TCs that would invalidate the cash back and that I wouldn't have even made the purchase in the first place had I known it was not going to get approved.

Next day: Great news! Your cash back has been approved.

After this loss in trust, I didn't use cashrewards for any large purchase ever since. It's not worth it, as you could end up paying more for something that you could have definitely gotten cheaper elsewhere.

        • Think you're right. Had $362 cashback approved in 2021 (A7R4) but rejected in November last year. Maybe a policy change?

Edit: Actually, the purchase last year was rejected because it used a 10% off welcome voucher code. Based on the other comments price matching is still fine for purposes of cashback eligibility.

    • Not a fact. If you apply codes it won’t work. Works for price match.

    • I can confirm in the last 9 months I have brought over $8000 of body and lenses from Sony AU store with Price Match and have got the 10% cashback each time.

Not only its it approved I have already withdraw the money in to my bank account.

    • You can but its a lot of work - make sure you keep screenshots which show date/time also

Crazy to think the new Canon RF 35mm will be double this price.

    • Probably because Sony is so far ahead in mirrorless, E mount is old tech for them, while RF is a still considered newish for Canon.

But Nikon and Canon have been catchup aggressively, Sony has to be flexible in pricing in order to maintain market dominance.

    • Well to be fair the RRP of the Sony is probably similar to the Canon. It's just that the Sony lens is a few years old (and even basically a version 2 of their 35mm). Canon is quite behind on their lens releases. I doubt they will remain number 1 for long with their current slow approach to mirrorless. They only just made their first voice coil motor lens yet Sony has had them for years

I'm tempted to buy this and I don't even have a sony body.

  • +1

Thanks OP, price matched in store and got the lens straight away, used Amex offer.

I didn’t want to price match online and risk the $150 cashback because it is back order.

    • What's the Amex offer mate?

    • +1

T&C's say last claim is 28 July 2024.

Yea, it would be problematic if the backorder was that long but the allure of 9% cashback + $50 Amex deal was too great… Hope it's doesn't bite me in the butt. Works out to be another $157 off. No sony stores in Vic too.

      Total price would be $1,006.

      • +1

T&C's say last claim is 28 July 2024.

That shouldn’t be the issue, but if the lens is posted after June 30 then I don’t know what would be date on the invoice.

It shouldn’t be an issue, but I am happy with $1113.

Best luck and highly likely you get a bargain

        • +3

In my back order case last year, date on the invoice was when they dispatched. So Sony declined my cash back claim because invoice date was outside the purchase period. They ignored my protest saying it was them that dispatched late and that they got my payment immediately when I ordered :-(
My advice, avoid buying from Sony on back order, just get it from George’s if they have it now to claim on time.

          • @Buy2Much: That was my recall, maybe read it from you or someone else. Thanks for posting your experience.

        • very good point. I went to check my past invoices and dispatch date = invoice date.

I asked Sony support if they had ETA on stock and they didn't. I guess it's a bit of a gamble I will cancel the order if it doesn't look like it'll ship in this month - but would miss out I guess.

          • @lawyerz: Instore do post items, but you won’t get Cashrewards.

      • Looks like it's back in stock on the Sony website already, hope it works out for you. Crazy price

        • +2

it just shipped! in my FOMO, I also placed an order with Georges because Sony has the love-it-or-30-day-money-back return policy so I have two lenses coming now..

thinking if I could sell the second lens, return it to Sony now..

          • @lawyerz: Gratz. Bargain!!

My cashback has been approved. 28 days to be deposited

            • @snvl: Tracked and approved is two diff things though. Here's hoping it'll be approved, and it could be up to 95 days. Mine tracked as well for once!

              • @lawyerz: I meant my $150 cashback from Sony

I bought in store, $0 cashreward

                • @snvl: Ahh! Cool cool! They have been late many times before so hoping they pay out on time this time!

  • I have this lens would highly recommend!! My goto in 95% if situations

  • Why I am looking at this? I have the tamron 35150

  • That is a super low price for such a great lens. I'd definitely buy it if I didn't already have one

  • Is this over? Looks like it's $1,599 on the website for me.

  • Looks like it’s over…

    • Snooze you lose. Its an exceptional price given the cashback also.
I thought about trying to price match with Sony store for the $50 Amex as well but decided to just support Georges.
This lens has been on my wish list for a while

  • Whenever I can only travel with 1 lens this is the one I pick. On the A74 with focus breathing compensation, this is as perfect as it gets.

  • +2

I bought it from Georges but i also have it price matched in my Sony cart. If anyone needs a screenshot of it they can try taking it to instore Sony and price matching the cart.

    • Hi @chueyyy, tried to send a DM but don't think your profile allows it. Any chance you've still got the lens price matched in your Sony cart? I missed out on it and really interested.

      • Hey @tubbynara. Ah i have changed my settings to allow messages. Sorry i just checked my Sony account and the price match has expired and been removed from my account.

        • Ah dang, all good. Guess it wasn't meant to be. Oh wells! Thanks anyway!
