Despite being Android-oriented, I've entertained the thought a couple of times (the slate grey one does look quite nice) for times when I'm without my phone.
Is the 5g really worth the money though? It's $320 for a 5g with 32gb
For me, not really, since it would function solely as a PMP.
I can't say the same for others who would utilise it more than I, or those who value fashion over function.

I've considered it once, wrt the iPad mini. But then I came to my senses.
Apple makes simple devices for simple people and even dictates what kind of apps they're allowed to buy.
You can always find an alternative that's just as good, though I've never seen a 4" Android tablet.Similar but not as good.

I got one, 32gb, black and slate. We got it for $309 - if your buisness has a partnership with apple or something, you get a $20 discount on the apple store. So we ordered it online with engraving for 309 - pretty cheap imo.
Don't get the 4th gen. In a year they'll stop supporting it, (no ios7+), the screen is now outdated (in a year or 2 all apps will be 4inch screen), and the speed is nothing compared to the new one.
I upgraded from a 3rd gen 8gb (which is actually a 2gen 8gb), and I can't express in words how happy i am :D
Get the 5th gen. don't waste your money on the 4th.

The 5th Generation only comes in 32GB (A$329) or 64GB ($439), most likely the 32GB will be about $299 on sale in coming weeks leading up to chirstmas. So for $50 more compared to the 4th Gen 32GB, its a better value purchase IMO with a decent camera and larger screen, plus a massive speed bump with dual core A5. However, the 4th Gen 16GB for $169 is a awesome price and hard to beat. Also people who like software updates be warned the ipod touch 4th gen came out in 2010 and already got 2 major software updates so not long before apple drops support for it with either iOS 7 or 8.

My 20-month old has a hand me down iPod touch 4g. I think the 5g would be too big for her little hands as a handheld. iPad is different as she wouldn't be holding it.
Anybody older than three would benefit from a 5g over the 4g, notwithstanding the price diff. The 4g really wasn't updated last year, so there's a two year gap between the two when using it for apps and web.

Quite a bit now that she's starting to understand things like matching tiles, moving specific objects, watching videos, and with a mic, interacting with characters through voice. Of course she didn't start using an iPod as a 20-month old… ;)
Maybe in a couple of years time she'll be monitoring OzBargain for me.

Hmmm.. tempting… just bought an iPod dock (older connector) from JB and decided my 2GB nano is not really big enough. No that i can have it in the lougne room thinking something that will use playlists, etc would be much better. but no way I want to pay the big $$ for the latest iPod classic.. very tempted…
