Hi, can we price match officeworks?

    • You can try show them the deals page but the issue is that the product page shows full price and needing the coupon to get the final price.

  • So they or JB HI-FI won't on the final price ?

    • More than likely not as they have T&C's, but you have nothing to lose by trying, it can be potluck sometimes.

  • Why 2 prices?

  • Thanks mate

I've had a Galaxy Watch on my wrist since 2018 and it still gets 4-5 days on a single charge. It's absolutely wild to me that modern offerings are only 24h

    • Did Google ever end up implementing travel pass support with Wallet on it? ie. Myki. I remember them mentioning it would be a thing eventually and that I'd wait to try a Pixel Watch until then.

  • Is there still no way for Google to fix a broken screen for the Pixel Watch 1/2? Does anyone have any experience with fixing their cracked screens?

    • Curved glass are pain. No wonder they say curves are dangerous

    Impractical watch.
Battery lasts under a day but took 5 hours to charge.
Used it for a month , great to look at ,but impractical battery. Purchased a Samsung 5 plus watch and JB salesman remembered me and said bring pixel watch back and we will give you a refund.

    • Wow… You must leave a good feedback to that salesman

      • Yes.
But they know if you like tech stuff you will likely be a repeat customer.

    • I charge it for 10 mins in the morning and that gets me a day's use

This is for the Pixel Watch 1, yeah?

  • I thought maybe just ozbargain humour but I read it as 'doomed' design instead of domed at first. I think I might be dyslexic. Regardless, I look forward to when smart watches sub $199 can last on battery for a week. The watch looks really cool to me.

Regardless, I look forward to when smart watches sub $199 can last on battery for a week.

if you don't need NFC pay, there's the Redmi Watch 4 with 60Hz OLED GPS and everything else you expect but with claimed battery *Up to 20 days. some people have an issue with the location of the crown in the centre. if you wear it on your wrist bone users say they can press the crown accidentally with the back of their hand.
the solution would be to go for another watch design or wear the watch a bit further up your arm.

if you want something that looks like an apple watch but (still not NFC pay and) slightly over $199 for about $250 look at the Huawei Watch Fit 3 with claimed battery of *Up to 10 days. I particularly like the look of the one with the red crown. if you get the leather or nylon (red crown) versions you can swap out the straps to whatever you want. but if you get silicone version you can only use huawei straps.

the overall experience for both the Redmi and Huawei is very similar (OLED, 60hz, GPS, no NFC pay etc - these budget watches have come along way with fluid 60hz OS and UI), making the Redmi much better value at around $100. main difference is the Redmi has no auto brightness and max brightness of 600nits. while Huawei has auto brightness mode and can do max 1500 nits. if you spend a lot of time outside with direct sunlight huawei display is more visible. if you spend most of your time indoors or under cover then Redmi should be fine even without auto brightness you can just leave it on a good middle ground.

also worth mentioning people with sensitive skin can have irritation issues from the silicone straps on both. even my $99 Garmin with NFC pay gave me irritation from it's straps. but I was able to solve it very easily by removing the straps from the watch, and putting just the strap in hot water (but not boiling, hot enough but I can stick my finger in for a few seconds) for about 10 mins. then rinsing them off with cold water. this got the silicone to sweat out any harsh chemicals and from then on I have zero irritation.

      • also if you are ok with a narrower screen, but still with OLED GPS, no NFC pay etc. look at the Xiaomi smart band 8 pro. it's important you search for the pro version. it's about $80 to $90 and more of a fitness tracker design (but they widened the display more than the narrow Smart band 8), but it has most of the modern smart watch spec (including auto brightness with max 600 nits). it has no button, which may be a plus or minus depending. you just navigate and control the watch through touch screen.
      • Phenomenal insight into smart watches I never even knew existed to be honest, thankyou for your thorough deduction!

        • just in case you decide not to watch reviews and seek feedback on these watches.

obviously the Redmi being much cheaper it doesn't do health tracking perfectly probably due to cheaper parts used inside. particularly the HR monitor on the Redmi while some were just "ok" I read a couple negative reviews saying the heart rate monitor is way off and not usable unless just wanting to see a HR number on the screen (this is fine for me not buying it to seriously track my health). also read some bad reviews saying the watch froze or the screen was faulty, everything has a failure rate but probably a good idea to buy this one from amazon to make sure you can get a refund if you need to.

so with the Huawei (I just discovered it's on sale in pink for $190 right now on amazon with is a fairer price) you are paying extra for better quality hardware and much better health tracking (youtuber quantified scientist's tests show Huawei Fit 3 is almost as good as apple watch in all health tracking areas except sleep tracking). and with hardware of higher quality it will give you better peace of mind in the longterm.

personally I would recommend the Xiaomi smart band 8 pro or the Huawei when it's on sale (I think it can drop to around $175 like the price in this deal which would be a great buy). in the Xiaomi obviously you lose out in max brightness and while snappy the OS is not going to be "apple watch" like it is with the Huawei.

Redmi is basically Xiaomi's "budget brand" that's bigger in SEA so as you can imagine I think the order of quality would be Redmi<Xiaomi. Huawei is just another big brand in china like Xiaomi.

the main thing the apple watch has that these budget options don't, is I think full notification interaction (typing, replying to emails etc) and fall detection. which is a fair trade I think for a week's battery life.

also just want to correct myself above looks like there is a silicone band version of the Huawei with the red crown. might not be available as a global model though not sure. oh and these watches are mostly sold in other countries so good idea to make sure with the model number you are getting the global model otherwise you may have issues connecting to the app.

  • 2nd gen maybe better with recent sales. First gen has huge design flaw with back plate glue being shit. Apart from that it's a great smartwatch
