The previously popular Xiaomi Air Pumps are back on sale and while they're a tad more than the deal in March they're still worth buying. While I've included the 1S in the title I recommend picking up the Air Pump 2 as it's much better (comparison further below).

These are essentially small battery powered air compressors designed for pumping up smaller tyres like those found on bike, e-scooters and mobility scooters. They can be used to top up car tyres, but if you're wanting to top up a tyre quickly or fill from flat then this isn't the product for you. Get a bigger proper dedicated compressor instead or one powered via the 12-24V socket.

Since this is an air compressor it's not suitable for filling up air mattresses, paddleboards, beach balls etc unless you use a special adapter found all over AliExpress, however it won't be perfect.

The main difference between the 1S and 2 is that version 2 inflates 25% faster (15L/pm flow rate in 1S), has multiple adapters including a quick connect adapter, an electric scooter preset mode and increased light brightness.

Both go up to 150 PSI, can be set to PSI/BAR, has USB-C charging and an inbuilt light.

I have had mine for a couple of months now and no faults. Very hand for top ups while the car tyres are cold and super quick on bicycle tyres. No manual pumping - just set and wait until it is done.

Only concern is that after the fourth tyre top up the connector can get very warm but so far no issues there either.

  • good for sitting tubeless bike tyres?

    • Yep.

      • +1

That’s good to hear and unexpected. Works every time? I was told on another forum these don’t have enough of a punch to rapidly inflate for getting the bead on.

        • I think this is correct because I have to use the aircom all the time to get the tyre beads on properly and then use this to get to the right PSI.

          • @Montyjpm: I found it wasn't good for tubeless as it's a screw in fitting and it kept unscrewing my valves when I took it off.

    • Not great for tubeless MTB tyres. Will top up well if you have no resistance from any residual latex in valve. Any resistance cuts out. No way will bead a tubeless tyre. Make a 2L coke bottle one. Google 9p ghetto tubeless inflator or something similar. I find it's real benefit is motorbike tyres and car top ups.

  • Ive used mine a few times.
Takes a minute or two to top up a car tire (not from flat) and is loud af

    • +3

It’s on the quieter side for a compact compressor imo

      • +2

        You are both correct.

    • Any refunds?

      • +2

There are no guarantees with Ali Express.

      • +3

The few times I've had DOA or other issues it's been pretty straight forward. Sometimes for a small defect when it's still good it's easier to get a partial refund. Same if the listing has a mistake you can get 50% refunded (easy to exploit lol).

PayPal is your friend for buyer protection always before richard says "no guarantees".

Remember folks, zero effective warranty with Ali Express overseas stores. Purchase if you're content with gambling your money.

FTFY incase anyone is new to buying online.

      • Right, except Ali Express advertises buyer protection (https://www.aliexpress.com/p/buyerprotection/index.html) which in reality, isn't worth anything. In other words, Ali Express lies to its potential customers. I want people to be well informed prior to making any purchases with Ali Express that yes, as you have agreed with me, there is zero effective warranty when buying overseas, including Ali Express.

        • +1

When I read your link it says 15 days buyer protection and then I read your forum post and they said it's out of their 14 day buyer protection. So they've only been misleading by being 1 day off but even then your issue was 2 months later so it wouldn't have mattered. There's no lies from them on that part.

Unfortunately you've learned a hard lesson on the risks of buying from overseas.

          • @Clear: I believe you are referring to this post https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/842147. If you read it carefully you will note that I had an issue with an item within the 14-day buyer protection period, yet Ali Express still refused to help me (even after I paid to have the item shipped back to the seller and also eventually proved they received it). Also, to blame the customer that they should have known the risk of purchasing overseas, when Ali Express and the seller is the one who screwed me over is poor form. How about, they just do the right thing? Imagine that.

            • @richard1912: So just to be clear within the 14 day period you contacted the seller who advised to return?

              • +6

@Clear: Yes that is correct. I opened a dispute case within the 14 day period, I sent video proof the HDD did not work properly, AE proposed a solution that I return the HDD and the seller would reimburse me return postage cost. I did exactly that, then AE said the seller never received it and I needed to provide proof that I sent it correctly. I agreed, lodged an enquiry with AusPost which all takes time. In the meantime, AE simply closed the case in favour of the seller. AusPost later sent me proof it was indeed received by the seller. I advised AE but case is already closed so no refund. Between this and my frunk, now hopefully you understand my distrust with the AE platform.

  • I’ve got a leak of about 10-15psi leak over a 3-4 day gap. I’m assuming hairline crack in wheel, would this be enough to top it up in one go?

Maybe save the money and go to the servo every few days

    • +1

Car tyre? It'll definitely take quite a few minutes to top it up 10-15psi due to the small size. Unlike a proper compressor at the servo.

    • I have the old version (micro USB). Last year I found my tyre completely flat. I was able to fully inflate it to go to my tyre guy 2Ks away and get it fixed. My car does not have a spare wheel btw

      • How long did it take to inflate that completely flat tyre?

    • +2

I had a slow leak from a screw and was down to 6 psi. This got me back to 27 in about 10 mins and I was able to drive the short distance to the tyre place for a picture repair.

      Well worth it for mine.

    • Easy for you to test, just mix up some detergent in a spray bottle and spray around the inside of the wheel and look for bubbles to find the leak.
Same can be done for the tyre, which is usually the culprit for leaks from screws etc. $20 at most tyreshops/mechanics or you can DIY with a kit

  • +2

For those who are concern about warranty, there's clearance on ToolPRO Inflator and Air Pump kit from Supercheap for $50.
I got it for $10 less from their sitewide clearance few weeks ago. So far so good, inflator is pretty loud pretty loud, wasn't really timing but i think it takes less than a minute to pump 5PSI into car tyre

  • I bought it last time it was on sale for the same price, but I am not so happy with it. It's extremely slow. It took close to 20 mins to go from 30 psi to 35 psi in all 4 tyres.

    • +3

It's working as designed. Have you wondered why it's so small compared to other air compressors? It's designed for electric scooters, bikes and anything else with small tyres. While it can top up car tyres it's not designed for filling them from flat, let alone filling anything big quickly given the small size and being battery powered.

Maybe I need to make that even more obvious in future deals.

      • +1

Thanks for the clarification. I wish I knew it's not designed for cars before I bought it.

        • "Notice

The product we link to sell is the Chinese version of the xiaomi air pump. The product’s logo is Mijia. The Chinese version of the xiaomi air pump".

Bought this last time and noticed this printed down the bottom .

      • Is it designed for scooters only? I bought a cheaper one from aliexpress and it's fine for my car tyres. This one doesn't seem that cheap in comparison then, although it is a brand name item. The one I bought seems to be no brand, but it was $28

        • +1

People expect it to be able to top up a car tyre in seconds like a proper big air compressor.

          • +1

@Clear: Yeah it's slow, but I use it so I don't have to go to the petrol station. Also sometimes you get a leak and this is convenient to top up until you can get the tyre fixed.

            • +1

@warmfruit: Yep that's the intention. People just expect it to do more.

  • +3

This is great for cyclists. The presta adaptor works well, and you can leave it fitted for convenience. Probably too big for most saddle bags, but convenient at home or travelling. The digital setting makes it easy to get to the pressure you want.

  • Says the coupon codes have all been used.

  • +1

I keep one in my bumbag along with mini tools for my motorcycle, has come in handy a few times with the worst being getting a puncture and flat, it fully pumped the rear to 38 psi which allowed me to ride to the garage.
Very handy, usually il top only tyres before a big ride as they can drop a few psi afte leaving the bike for a few weeks

  • +1

Good timing as I was thinking about it this morning. the battery on mine only lasts after topping up my bike tyres once or twice. It's almost 5 years old though.
It works good for car tyres - slow and noisy but definitely portable.

I was thinking of getting the Ozito high pressure inflator - its $60 atm but it also will just use my 3 batteries and probably last much longer.

  • There a lot of other generic similar electric air pumps in the market now. How does this xiaomi one compare to other generic/less known brand ones?

    • +1

For road cyclists, this can pump to high pressure, e.g. 120psi. It includes a presta fitting, and can remain on pump. Xiaomi has a reputation for 'decent' quality - I use them a lot for electronics, they are also building EV's.

  • Said the code has already been claimed?

  • Can I use it to inflat the hand trolley wheels ? Took the flat one to servo and it didn't fit so not sure how I can inflat the flat wheel back. :(

    • +1

Exactly what we used it for recently and wheelbarrow tires as well. Worked fine

  • Code expired :(

  • Is it a crazy idea if I can use this as a dust blower?

    • +1

There's zero chance you can use this as a dust blower. It inflates by sending short pulses of air continously. These portable battery-powered air pumps are designed to output low-to medium levels pressure, not large volumes of air. This is why it takes a while to fill up a car tyre.

If you get one of those bigger high volume pumps from Bunnings that are either mains or 12V-powered, that might potentially do the job. You'd still be better off buying an actual compressed air duster though. Use the right tool for the right job.

  • If you buy via the app you can get an extra US$5.41 off with (541) coins for the 2. My total was US$21.27 without the code since I already used it.

    @Clear

    • Yup I never include the coins discount in the title. People struggle enough working out how currency conversions work and I'd run out of title space. Plus it can vary between people.

      • Fair enough. It's new to me though and I'll definitely be checking in the app first before making future purchases, especially Choice items.

        • Desktop site and app will give you coin discounts. Most of the time it's 2%. I don't think the mobile site does it.

  • This deal has expired, code can no longer be claimed.

  • I just used mine yesterday to pump up my kids bike tyres. It's so quick and easy! Worth every cent
