    • Looks like the refill is only for the colorless translucent. I know it was too good to be true.

  • I don't really need that big of a printer, so the A1 Mini seems great for me, but what if one day I need more print area??? Plus the A1 has the superior heatbed AND has more of a discount — for $499, the A1 seems perfect. I'm not crazy to pick up the A1, right? I've seen that it trades blows with the P1S as long as you don't print specific filaments + it has a superior screen…

    • A1 mini is a great choice, but if you can stretch the budget then the A1 is definitely the one to get. Best value of the bunch.

The sale looks to be for a whole month though, so probably no need to rush if you want to consider. Adding the ams lite later costs much more as well, so consider if it's something you want or not before purchasing.

    • Get a1 if you have budget

      I have both

A1 mini is more quiet imo

If I don’t need the extra bed size I use the mini mainly

    Prices live on amazon

    • +2

Thanks! Just pulled the trigger on a1 combo on Amazon.

      • Nice, selling on the SE or keeping both 😅

        • Haha I don’t know yet! I’m thoroughly enjoying the SE but I suddenly want the multi colour printing. Damn this is such a rabbit hole of a hobby 🥲. I feel like the SE is like the gateway drug of the 3D printing world haha!

          • @NachoCheese: At the cheap price of the SE, it's worth having both. Some prints still take hours, and are multipart.

    • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons The discounts on the Amazon stock seem to be a touch above the listed prices. Is that because of shipping or something else, compared to purchasing through the bambu store directly?
P1S Combo is $1369.00 on Amazon, $1299 direct
A1 Combo is $799 on Amazon, $749 direct
Genuinely asking, not trying to be obtuse.

      • +2

they account for shipping and a bit of the selling fees into the price.
Ordering direct will add around $45 to ship.

One thing that you can't do on Amazon is order the spare parts at the discounted price, like the extra nozzles.

        • +2

Yep, it’s that vs better return support if needed on Amazon plus quicker delivery.

          • +4

@NachoCheese: You can also pay with discounted Amazon gift cards if buying via Amazon.

        • Thanks, that's mainly what I figured it would be attributed to - would be nice if we could get the discounted spares on Amazon, can't have everything I guess!
I think I might buy direct, and get some extra bits and pieces.

Anyone got suggestions for what I should grab with an A1 Combo?
          0.2 nozzle, or anything else?

      • +3

Pretty much what the others said

I get it from Amazon because of the extra layer of protection for warranty. Many report of users getting ghosted by Bambu in the groups on Facebook.

Especially after the OG debacle of the a1’s I wasn’t so impressed with how it was handled. Especially how they treated the European customers.

Anyway - up to you. If you have free few card it is slightly cheaper direct yes.

I recommend the nozzle kit if it’s on sale.

  • The P1S with AMS is a good starting point for someone just getting into 3D printing?

    • +1

I think the takeaway is that both a1 and p1s are both good for someone just getting into 3D printing. Just depends on budget and what materials you will be printing in the future.

    • If budget allows sure

    • For a newcomer just getting into 3D printing, I'd say the A1 is ideal (with or without the AMS Lite — note that it's always cheaper to buy the Combo package that includes the AMS Lite upfront, it's more expensive to buy the AMS separately later since they don't discount the AMS during sales).

P1S isn't really necessary for a lot of people, much like the X1C — it's more for specialised applications that require an enclosure (e.g. printing ABS) or if you have the money to spare. The A1 and A1 mini are incredible value.

  • -4

Good discount, but still a way off the $1000~ P1S combo from a few mths back? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/824992

Gutted we missed that one 🙁

    • +1

That was a pricing error from bambu stacking two discount codes

  • Great prices.
If only Amazon sold spare hot ends, that's all I need but not enough to get over the free shipping amount.

    • What about the ones sold on AliExpress? Are they any good? Seems to be cheaper and review says almost identical.

      • I'll have to look into that, thanks!
Was there a specific site you read those reviews or was it on the product pages (they're not showing up atm)?

      • u need to scrub the ali express link otherwise system auto removes

        • I had a look at some on Ali, then looked around the Bambu subreddit to see if there was any info and saw some pretty bad reports.
I might just stick to the Bambu Lab ones, see if I can get someone in to get over the free shipping limit.

  • Mmmm to buy or not to buy on amazon is the question…
I know the return process is much easier in Amazon but that's only for the first year right?
    Thoughts?

    • fwiw , amazon is bound by ACL laws. Bambu afaik is not.
you can just throw the expected lifetime of the machine card at amazon and they will have to play nice.

if you are all about min maxing your savings AND have a fee free card by all means go bambu.

also might throw in there, depending on the model, some models have next day delivery.
a1 mini for instance showing next day.

      bambu shipping will be slower.

      • +3

The ACL applies to anyone selling any goods in Australia. Steam is rather famous for being targeted for not following the ACL - successfully I might add. So yeah, they most definitely ARE bound by the ACL.

It gets a little grey around international sites that do not specifically sell to Australians (ie places that will ship here, but the transactions are processed in foreign currency, they don't have AU warehousing, etc), but if they sell in AUD, I'm guessing it will apply to them too.

  • Any advice on a starter painter kit?

I saw the portable airbrushes are good enough for starting and dont need to get a compressor. Will most likely start with spraycan primer though.

    • +1

i just got a $30 set on amazon , just paints and some brushes. yet to start but has some skin colour which might work out ok for my wolverine micky print.
Not sure if i will get into air gun spraying…though i guess that would be the next step.

i like this video by uncle jessy that talks about different ways to paint figures. Go to 5 min 24 for him using rub n buff , the result looks super nice.

At the start (around 1 min 30) he goes over a technique which is coating in a base primer than down spraying from different angles..which actually looks sick too

  • Can anyone comment on how much louder the P1S is compared to the A1. I have the A1 and its nice and quiet, can easily work while it plugs away on a print. Was thinking to get an P1S to run alongside it or replace it, but not sure if the sound is way louder than the A1. Reports online from other users appear mixed

    • My house is really quiet from around 12 -5, sometimes I can JUSTTTT hear the a1 smashing out a print. It sits in my home study/office downstairs. A1 mini I can’t hear.

P1s from what I read on reddit was supposed to be louder and more vibration . Vibration can be addressed with various methods though.

  • Pulled the trigger on the p1s combo thought Amazon, purely for the convenience of hassle free warranty.

  • Someone convince me I need one

    • +1

have a read through the recent flood of 3d printer deals, they solve different needs for different people.

      • toys, puzzles, figurines,
      • practical prints
      • creative outlet
      • DIY fix/repairs
      • You seem to know a lot about 3D printers! I saw the V3 SE deal and was wondering if it would be good for practical prints/DIY fixes? I'm still trying to understand all this talk of nozzles and different filaments and could use some guidance on what entry level printer and upgrades would be needed to try making these kinds of things :)
PS. I'm not really fussed about things like glow in the dark filament or print speed if that helps

        • +1

There's a few considerations, to get your started:

          • budget (250-500, 500-1000)
          • print size required (A1 mini or A1, V3 SE/KE)
          • multicolour requirements

          • filaments - PLA & PETG are enough for most. ASA and ABS for more heavy duty but requirs more work, ventilation, etc)

          • nozzles - affects print quality and speed. Brass is standard, hardened steel for abrasive filaments like wood & marble
          • @impoze: If you were to start out in 3d printing and want to print parts for pc like drive bays and garden pots is PLA sufficient or do you need to get ABS?

            • @JA G: Garden pots no. PLA doesn't like heat or sun. You could probably get away with PETG though rather than ABS. ABS also doesn't love the sun.
PC drive bays, no idea the requirements, but PLA isn't great for functional prints, particularly in warm environments. PETG will generally fill 90% of functional needs unless something needs particular rigidity.

              • @NigelTufnel: @jag121 as @NigelTufnel said, go for PETG for prints that will be exposed to weather elements.

PETG can also be more watertight.

For drive bays, are you just talking about 3.5 to 2.5" adapters? I've done a few in PLA fine, but no real load on those. I'd go PETG if it was actually supporting the drives.

                • +1

                  @impoze: Thanks @NigelTufnel @impoze.

Is Petg hard to work with as a beginner?

Pc parts I was thinking about are those drive caddies in mini computers or the adapter to allow the shorter nvmes to fit in the longer slot.

                  What's Asa used for?

                  • +1

@JA G: PETG is harder than PLA, but not too bad as it doesn't need a heated chamber. It does generally need to be printed slower and avoid overlapping lines as it likes to stick to itself.
Ideally you'd have an enclosure for PETG as it can be susceptible to warping with a breeze (but so can PLA…) and can stick too well to certain build plates.
So long as you use the right plate with a good z offset you're generally fine.

ASA is essentially ABS that is slightly easier to print and UV resistant.

    • +1

Do it they are really cool and good fun

    • U need it.

  • Looks like price has gone live a little early

  • Which of the additional nozzles for the A1 mini are actually worth buying?

    • +1

hardened steel for abrasive filaments (wood, marble, glow in the dark etc)
0.6/0.8 if you want to do faster prints like gridfinity/storage
0.2 for extra fine details like miniatures

            • more tools for post processing
          • +1

@NachoCheese: Bought the A1 mini combo + all the nozzles and 3kg of filament, not to mention the 2kg I bought yesterday from eBay….

  • +1

I thinking about getting a P1S W AMS. Can anyone recommend if I should get and extra parts e.g. build plates or nozzles?

      • Hardened steel nozzle for abrasive filaments
      • different sizez nozzles as required
      • already comes with PEI build plate so only if you want the the PEY smooth or extra plates
    • +1

Depends what you're planning to print, and how much. I bought my P1S in January and only print once every couple of weeks, so I haven't yet bought any extra accessories. However, I'll be picking up some spare nozzles (0.2mm Stainless Steel, and 0.4mm Hardened Steel) and parts like the hardened extruder gears soon since they're on sale — this is important if you want to print abrasive materials like glow-in-the-dark filament or Carbon Fibre PLA.

I recommend getting the "Complete Hotend" assembly rather than just the nozzle on its own, since it makes it a bit more convenient to swap out without having to disassemble a bunch of stuff.
      https://au.store.bambulab.com/products/bambu-hotend-p1-serie…

For the build plates, I bought some JUUPINE 3rd party plates (popularised on the /r/BambuLab subreddit), and they've been great, and are WAY cheaper than the official build plates:
      https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005735968167.html

Some folks also buy nozzles on AliExpress but I personally don't go for that, I prefer to stick to genuine nozzles.

Oh I also highly recommend you a few litres of 99% or 100% IPA (Isopropyl alcohol) if you don't already have some, I find it super useful for cleaning the build plate after every 2 or 3 prints. Beats having to wash the plate with dishwashing liquid.

If you managed to score one of those 10% off Rotor Riot codes from last month it also work on top. $296 for an A1 mini!

    • oh wow, didn't they expire already?

      • Email I got said 1st July expiry

        • Ah, I was thinking about the 10% codes being posted up on telegram.

  • Does anyone have any feedback on the smooth pei plate for the A1? Not sure if I should add that to my cart

    • there's a lot of videos on the different bed surfaces

It's also what you want it to look like cosmetically since they have a different finish.

      • Ok thanks

      • Not seeing one specifically for the bambu smooth one. There are videos for the cool plate but I do not believe this is for the A1. If anyone can give their experience with the bambu branded smooth plate it would be great

  • +2

Hi All, I ordered two A1 printers, one from Amazon (well two, but I returned the first one due to this sale, was the only way to get the discount) and one from Bambu directly through this current sale. I found some differences between the two printers that I thought would be worth sharing.
    1. The amazon A1 includes one of those kit projects that you can make. One had a lamp project, the second had a motor benchy project. The one from Bambu direct did not have this.
    2. The internal packaging and some of the screws and tool box contents are slightly different which leads me to believe they are from a different batch or revision.
    3. The Bambu printer came in 2 days from ordering on Wednesday, arrived today Friday. The Amazon printer took 3 days.
    4. With the Amazon printers, they both had the common error of "The resonance frequency of the X axis is low. The timing belt may be loose.". The Bambu one has not had this issue. I think the printers from Bambu direct are newer.

Has anyone had this error with their printers direct from Bambu ? "The resonance frequency of the X axis is low. The timing belt may be loose."

    • If you look at the firmware, are they different? Deciding whether to buy direct or via Amazon, might go direct if it's newer and cheaper?

      • I already updated the firmware on both to the latest when I set them up so they're on the same firmware and I didn't check the original firmware unfortunately. The advantage with Amazon is easy return if something goes wrong. However it seems that the ones direct from Bambu don't have this resonance frequency error. Although both appear to be printing fine for now. Apparently a common error.

        • hmmmmm… thanks for the feedback. Another reason to buy direct I suppose. Did updating the FW fix the error?

    • +3

I have this issue with mine from Bambu direct, but it's the Y axis

been meaning to try this https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/x1/troubleshooting/hmscode/0300…

  • I am just after a couple of hotends, if anyone in the Blacktown/Hills area wants to combine order to get free shipping + extra accessories discount, let me know.

  • +1

Did anyone order direct? How long is shipping/delivery? Amazon is showing one week eta

    • +1

i ordered a P1S Combo Weds night and it was here in Melbourne on Friday morning from Bambu direct :)

      • Dam - i ordered on Amazon and ETA is friday the 14th. Maybe i should cancel and order direct. Did you have to pay transaction fees?

    • Delivery is usually 2-3 business days, although with a sale this big, it will likely take longer (the first sale in November took over a week for the printer, and the accessories/filament were only 5 business days).

They ship from NSW, so if that's where you're located, it may be faster.

      • If they are based in aus do you still pay transaction fees?

        • it depends on your bank, it's wherever it gets charged from.

          • @impoze: Thanks do you know how to check? Nab Bank

            • @superdoedoe: Does your card have no international fee?

Usually you can claim a fee reversal if the site has /au or .au domain

        • +1

I only paid the total price it showed in the cart. It's all in AUD, so there's no international transactions going on - they're a legit Australian company with ABN and everything.

          • @Nukkels: Most banks will charge a intl fee if the company is based overseas even if charged AUD. They can’t tell the diff as it depends where the payment is processed. Safest way is fx fee free card for these types of intl companies to avoid the hassle

            • +1

@EnergicAU: I've bought from Bambu Lab plenty of times and never been charged more than the price it shows in the checkout. I always pay with PayPal and they're usually pretty quick to slap on extra fees or charge an extra few cents a week later to account for the fluctuations in exchange rate if buying from somewhere overseas.

      • I ordered filament and accessories this time - order placed on Thursday night, delivery sent on Friday and it arrived today, which is only 2 business days (Monday was a holiday).

  • A1 mini fit my budget better but does A1 worth the extra 170? (I can stretch my budget tho if the benefit can outweighs that)

    • +1

      Yes, go for the A1

The extra 70mm each way is big
      Bigger screen
      Dual z-support

But if that's your budget the A1 mini is still great

  • +6

For everyone asking whether it's worth upgrading to a bigger/better printer, the answer is almost always yes if you can stretch your budget and have the room for a larger device - because as a long term investment, the cost of the printer is only part of the total cost, and you will have the printer for years.

Like many other appliances, there are also consumables - filaments, nozzles, electricity, tools (deburring, snippers, etc), desiccant, print accessories (magnets, screws, etc), storage…

Not trying to scare anyone off - most of those will last ages, although the filament can add up if you use it a decent amount. But the more expensive printers give you the ability to print more materials, larger area, faster prints, etc. - and you'll find pretty quickly how useful those features are.

    • +1

I could have gone for the P1S but decided to go for 2x A1 instead for similar price. The main reasons being that the A1 is a quieter machine, but it also has Bambus latest technology for the automatic flow calibration and a few other things. The print quality for PLA/PETG is practically equal to the P1S, while it is about 10%-15% slower.

  • I was torn between the A1 and P1S, finally caved and got the P1S, some filament and two hotends (hardened). FYI, they have some cool inexpensive kits to get started with like a working boat, clock, jet engine etc.

    • +1

Pro tip - you can order a hot end and 2 boats, and with the 35% discount it'll be less than the cost of the hot end alone. I think the clocks are OK too, but the other kits are more expensive and it doesn't work out cheaper.

    • +1

      It's gone.

These codes get used to in seconds.

Surprised they are still releasing them in telegram with the sale on
