  • wonder how bad my setup would go if i run this through my xbox with a hdmi splitter at 4k 60hz

    • Following.

  • So will this work if you only use inbuilt apps on tv i.e. without any external device connected to tv via hdmi? the diagram suggest all inputs need to go via hdmi box?

"Compatible with HDMI inputs from Apple TV, PS5, Xbox Series X and more"

    • +1

Don't think so, this basically pre-processes the video input to identify the colors and then passes on the hdmi feed to tv along with the color details to led strip controller

    • +1

Yeah with built-in apps like those found on Samsung TV (Netflix, Prime, Plex, Disney+), you'll need one with Camera.
I'm using the Govee one, works pretty well but need to live with that center camera (you could mount it below, but only if there aren't direct ceiling lights in camera view)

Personally I had really bad experience with Kogan light strips, and returned two of them that failed within days.

  • what is the actual purpose of this ? :/ isn't that a distraction?

  • This guy seems happy with it and you can see what it does

I also found a single written feedback on Amazon that wasn't as impressed: (TLDR, he thinks its OK, but can lag)

I have a Philips TV with it built in and I love it, - looking at this for our other TV, I think I will pull the trigger, worst case it can be static backlighting if it lags too much

      Pretty fair review imo

If I knew this could be powered off the TVs usb ports I’d probly jump on it

      • That's a no. Requires two power adaptors.

        From the manual:

HDMI sync box power supply: DC5V=1.5A
        Controller power supply: DC12V=1.5A

        • Those adapters may plug i to usb sockets

          • @0jay: Not at 12v

            • @Chuppa: The sync box’s powered by usbc, second looks like a barrel connector

              • @0jay: The USB on a TV is only 5v, so only the HDMI sync box can be powered by USB. The Contoller requires 12v which can not be powered by USB.

  • Mine arrived today: the instructions are wrong and ask you to go up the short side of the tv with the long strip. I can’t pair it to Tuya (I haven’t tried very hard) and won’t download the Kogan app. While it works it’s a cheap piece of junk.

    • On the contrary, i found it amazing value. It is perfect for 65 inch. For $34, it has pre split LED strip which fits great for 65" tv, hdmi sync (which works most of the times and looks great), the strip comes with a controller which supports multi color rather than static single color for the whole strip, music sync, hdmi cable and 3M led stip holder to fix on corners.

Can't expect more for this price. Even without turning HDMI sync on, the strip has beautiful presets.

Worked out of the box with Kogan Smarterhome app on android. Auto discovered and configured without any issue.

      • I didn’t like the rapid changing of colours. It looks great on a YouTube rainbow spiral but it’s not smooth enough for regular tv. I have a Govee on another tv at that had a movie mode which shows down the colour changing.

You’re right it is a great value light strip and excellent brightness etc but the hdmi sync is poor.

Oh yeah, I did manage to sync it with Tuya!
