Gas Bill Welcome Credit Terms Question

Signed up to a new gas retailer who is offering a $100 credit.

There's some fine print relating to the credit:

"*The bonus credit will appear as an account credit on your first bill, provided that you are still on this HomeSaver plan at that time."

Ideally I want to only stick with this retailer for 1 bill, to take advantage of the credit. Do you think I could select a new provided toward the end of the 2 month billing period, but before the bill is received, and still get the bonus, given that churn doesn't take place until the final bill is issued?

Is signing up just for the welcome credit with the intention of cancelling is a dick move according to OZB?

    I think so.

"Won't someone think of the poor gas companies" is not really a common sentiment anywhere in Australia. Ozbargain least of all.

  • Don't know but for the sake of a few days why would you risk losing the bonus?

Because if I stay for two bill cycles (which I'll have to, based on gas readings every two months), the welcome credit gets absorbed by the more expensive prices.

      • You can cancel anytime, they just do an extra reading at that time don't they?

        • I'm unsure if I'll still get the credit, which is what this post is asking

          • @prhino: I'm saying cancel a couple of days after the first billing cycle. You've only lost a few days at that point. I'm pretty sure they don't lock you in for the next entire cycle.

@FezMonkey: They lock you in until the next meter reading, which will be in two months

  • Pretty sure I read a thread in this forum that said that you will not get the credit. Although you are not billed, the credit is calculated off the churn date.

This is a question for @easternculture as he seems to be the the master at the game of churning.
