    • I called them I said I was moving away. They gave $200 electricity and $50 gas. It works once a year

      • Nice!

        Anyone done this with origin?

  • How long ago was the $50 for existing customers, I only just changed plans

    • Yes I noticed some previous similar deals, however AGL has updated their sign up credit amount since then

  • +1

My mate just rang me: he got $300 + $300 from Origin today.

    • Lol where are energy providers getting this money from?

I wonder how it will be managed with the upcoming gov rebates, hopefully they don't do anything dodgy like mistaking it for the $300 gov rebate

      • From so called loyal customers…

        • With the abundance of no contracts these days, businesses probably realise people jump ship whenever they want so they would prefer not to reward those who 'stay' for however long they are with them

    • Hey abhiz how did ur mate get this offer

Do u have any links with details?

      • Booked transfer connection with Origin (cancel with AGL as my current provider) - got a call from AGL retention — they already know $300 sign up for Gas and Elec each in the market. I moved my Gas only and they gave $300 credit.

        • Thanks

  • I signed up for $150 MasterCard last year. They scammed me saying I had accessed the email with the offer but didn't activate so they deactivated the offer despite my attempts to activate. Avoid like the plague.

  • It's not worth if just the first bill, I prefer provider that will provide roll-over credit like Simply Energy (aka Engie)

    • no roll over 100% sure?

      • +2

*Get $200 for electricity on your first bill, first bill only

        • Thanks for pointing that out! I had originally signed up with the Netflix deal, which also offers $200 credit. No mention of first bill only on that offer. Will have to go over t&c for both.

          • @Sweet3st: OK. Westpac deal seems to be only plan where $200 credit is confined to first bill. I may need to reconsider.

            • @Sweet3st: Sorry did u mean $200 first bill is for only the AGL WESTPAC DEAL?

BUT FOR THE OTHER $225 AGL deal it not confined to first bill?

        • does't seem worth it for first bill only. It states that, but has anyone confirmed it with AGL?

        • Sorry, could u confirm wqs the 200$ for FIRST BILL ONLY - for this AGL deal or for engie?

  • i just signed up with netflix !! hopefully i do't pay extra when netflix increase prices next month :(

    • I don't think you get the gift card if you sign up with Netflix… Westpac offer is only for Value Saver plan.

      • +1

I got free Netflix once agl service connected.

  • I actually called them got them to give me rates for value saver for solar saver plan with 12c fit first 10kwh. Normally website rates are way too high for my postcode for solar plans.

Not sure if I can get westpac added also. Will try calling them again

    Postcode : 2167
    87.93 supply charge
    30.54 usage ( single rate)
225 Bonus credit and 50 for gas
    Solar Fit - 12 c first 10kwh..then 7.

    • Could u confirm what u said to get agl value saver rate for solar saver plan?

Also were u able get westpac deal added aswell?

  • Not for VIC?

    • seems like VIC has $150 credit on 1st bill + Prepaid Digital Mastercard offer.

  • I got the $200 offer with the 35,000 velocity points. Wonder if I can still get the $100 gift card?

    • How did you get that?

When i spoke to chat they said its either velocity points or the cash back. Cant do both

      • I just followed the velocity link. The terms and condition dosnt say anything about not getting both.

        • the url is different depending on what deal you chose.

if you chose velocity, its meant to cancel out the $200 cashback haha.

multiple agents confirmed over chat with me.

          lucky you haha

          • @amityaaron: Sorry was cashback a seperate thing ? Or were u referring to the $200 of first bill?

      • Was the agl cashreward cashback with engie or something? Thats all i saw on cashrewsrds?

  • We are with tango now, they have better rates than AGL but with credit it makes AGL deal better. Only challenge is with Tango we have around $100 credit sitting (due to last year's Govt rebate)….what happens if we move to AGL? I guess credit are lost but this were given by Fed gict last year so assume that might be able to carry on.

  • AGL had another deal with 28% off reference price and $225 credit.

    • link?? thats a better deal

      • I just signed up last week. My meter is setup as a single fare (not time of use) so we were offered 28% off current reference price however the reference price is about to go down in the next few weeks.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/843724

        • sorry i'm going to be a noob here but whats the difference between single fare and time of use?
and what did you mean about the reference price as in the electricity rate? and why do you think this reference price will go down in the coming weeks?

and to get the 28% off, did you call or apply online? assume called so they can set up the higher discount rate

          • @prankster: It's a welcome back offer.
I also have the link to the offer

$225 for electricity and $50 for gas

            • @easternculture: ah ok so its only for returning customers that was with AGL as opposed to new customers

              • +1

@prankster: Not for returning customers only. I have never had an electricity account with AGL. Reference price is the govt regulated maximum a retailer can charge. If they are charging more then you can ask to pay only the reference price. When you enter your address, their website will show your tariff and also show comparison to the reference price. Mine came out as 28% below the reference which is like the going rate right now with both AGL and Origin. I read some news about planned reduction to the reference price in the coming weeks, I think from July.

        • Sorry noob questions

So the offer here and below is it just the difference is $200 vs $225? Any other difference?

          Im a bit confused? Thanks

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/843724

Also do u need to be westpac customer to receive a bonus Prepaid Digital Mastercard worth up to $100¹.

          • @ATTS: I think they have a background check to confirm Westpac customer so not sure. Slot of people tried not none came back later to confirm if they got it.

Regarding differences, I would think it would differ by suburb/address and type of connection. You would need to add your address on both and compare by calculating based on your past usage.

            • @bigbadboogieman: Thanks

Did they also do credit check along with the westpac background check?

        • Hey bit confused i clicked the link you put for 28% reference price and the pricing was the same for my mums house?

  • For anyone who has already done this - how far forward can you sign up for? My current cashrewards energy cashback needs 55 days more for approval. Would ideally be able to sign up for the AGL plan to start after that. TIA.

    • who did you go with to get the cashrewards energy / pending approval ?

    • What is the cashrewards cashback? I cant see it on my mums account? Only saw engie or something which didnt include the $200 off bill when i entered agl on engie

      • It was an offer about 2 months ago. Probably not live now.

        • Right, thanks

  • so i'm currently with energy australia, my plan is to move to AGL, get this $200 credit and then after port back to energy australia to get the $200 sign in credit again.

how long does this credit take to come into AGL account?
and any issues with the plan i'm proposing above? lol

    • +1

Gets added to first bill and remainder is transferred to bills thereafter

      • Does that mean have to wait quarter before I get the bill?

        • Not necessarily. Depends on the bill cycle

I've had bills after 15 days and some within month

      • T&c say the $200 is applied to first bill only.

        • Gets added to first bill and remainder is transferred to bills thereafter

I've done this easily a dozen times

        • noticed agl you can change to monthly billing so does that mean if your first bill is $100 then you only get $100 out of the $200 and you'll lose the remaining $100 for other bills?

        • +3

I have just contacted support via online chat and they confirmed that anu unused credit for the first month stays on the account for subsequent bills. Have saved the transcript from the chat in case there is any issues with this

          • @spurf: Although it looks like I'm not eligible as I have more than 10kW of solar installed according to the T&Cs. Seems to be an NSW thing as QLD can have 30 and Vic 100kW!

            • +1

@spurf: I decided to double check and the chat agent has said you can connect with more than 10kW but you can only get plans with the standard FiT of 7c/kW. Given the others are capped and have higher daily and use charges this isn't a big deal

          • @spurf: Nice!

    • Oh so u dont need to wait 12 month to port back to EA to get the sign up credit again?

  • Just churned to Energy Australia because my $200 credit was almost used. AGL sent me an email after churning offering me $225 (extra $50 on top of this if you have gas too) to stay, so I stayed. Hopefully I can still churn to Energy Aus in a few months for their $200.

    • so you got $200 signin when joining AGL, then you nearly used your credit and then as you were about to churn out, they gave you $225 for you to stay?
effectively will have a total $425 from AGL?

how long did you stay with AGL to hit the $200? 1/2/3 months?
and also did you try the monthly billing?

      • That’s right. I was with them almost 3 months when I went to churn. I was on monthly billing yep.

        • oh wow, amazing that they were willing give you $225 to stay!

i'm with energy australia and after being with them for about 1.5 years, after i told them about me moving to agl coz of the $200 credit, they would only offer me $50 to stay #meh

  • What is the best offer one got in VIC with AGL. I tried $300 each for Elec & Gas, however it was knocked back.

  • looks like prices will go up on July/August

"If you sign up to an electricity standard retail contract, your prices will change on 1 July 2024.
Please keep in mind that prices for standard retail contracts will change on 1 July 2024. We’ll let you know once your new prices are confirmed.

If you sign up to a gas standard retail contract, your prices may change on 1 August 2024."

i'll be using the $200 credit upon signing and then churning back to Energy australia after using the credit lol

  • so they give you the $150 credit first month, then that would put you in credit which you can still use for subsequent periods? Isn't that how normally bill credit works?

  • I've just signed up for this deal. Should be getting the $200 credit from AGL, $150 digital giftcard from Westpac and 10k points from Velocity for the gas switch (electricity switch was either Westpac promo and Velocity promo but not both).

When energy provider churning, 2 areas I see to be aware of - credit check and exit fees.
    - I gather from reading various threads that not all providers will run a credit check. Do we know which ones do?
    - It looks like AGL does not have any sort of leaving fees but others do, don't they?

Are there any other pitfalls for new players to be aware of?

    • $150 gift card? Mine only showed $100 gift card.

      • sorry, you are right - $100 digital giftcard from Westpac.

Do you know which run credit checks and / or charge exit fees?

    • I did electricity with velocity and gas with $100 westpac. Does one get $100 master card just with gas ?

    • @caperite

So I think another user said below

"I know the big 4 (red, energy Aus, AGL and Origin) all do a credit check on sign up!"

Do u know if this is true? We are worried as my mothers house is retired. And i heard someone say if your credit check unsuccessful you would be stuck with ur default energy retailer and on the very high default rate?

Can anyone confirm if that could happen?

  • Has anyone got the bonus $100 Mastercard?
I’m with them for almost 2 months and not getting the Mastercard.

  • If I have used this offer and move to a different provider, then come back to this offer, am I still considered as new customer.

Is there a requirement which says I can’t take this offer twice within certain period?

    • Yes I believe you should be coming back as a “new” customer

  • Is sign up instant?

Also is the phone line operating 7 days a week 24/7?

    • I signed up (via shopback) to agl on 26 and process of porting happened over 24 hours. Like o got the confirmation email and I could log into app, it says “connection in progress” assume coz it’s within this 10 day cooling off period 🤷‍♂️

      • Thanks

  • Has anyone threaten to leave origin with this agl 200$ and got incentive from origin to stay?

    • I threatened energy Australia and they only offered $50 to stay … pfttt so now I’m porting over to agl to get the $200 credit

      • Thanks. That sux. Because Im sort of hesistant to switch my mums house because i think i read from other users here saying if they do credit check and you fail, the only option you would have would be to be on your default energy retailer on a default rate being the very expensive rate (0% reference price discount)

        • Or unless if you want to try this way, you can apply it under your name you have a good credit rating, and then when it comes to payment just put your mums direct debit details so it charges her.

  • Got my 20,000 velocity points after 30 days for my electricity. Where to now? What’s the best deal going around now?

  • Pretty annoyed. Signed up my electricity account under the Westpac deal. CSR told me over the phone I would get the Mastercard. Chasing it up, now they say no, because I already received the card for a separate gas sign up. I could have gone for the Velocity points deal :(.
Also no sign of any bill credit on my account. Does this show up somewhere?

  • Is july now, just wondering has anyone noticed they hiked the prices? If so by how much?

I read on ozb somewhere, someone on energy Australia I think hiked by 25% or something after the sign up bonus
