On sale is the new ANBERNIC RG35XXSP retro handheld console available in all colours including the transparent black or blue that can fit DIY inserts and both the 64GB and 64GB+128GB microSD card variants are on sale.

This new handheld game console follows the classic Gameboy clamshell design for those who love the nostalgic feel with a 3.5" IPS display, dpad, vibration motor and shoulder buttons. It offers impressive performance that can emulate 30+ platforms including Gameboy, PS1, PSP, SNES, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and more. In terms of battery life you can easily get 8 hours of playtime and that can be extended to 12 hours if you play lower demanding games like the Gameboy.

As an added bonus this one has mini HDMI output so you can hook it up to the TV and pair gamepads via Bluetooth for multiplayer. It also features 2.4/5GHz WiFi connectivity with two microSD slots and a Linux based OS. It's already possible to load other OS' including muOS, Knulli and MinUI.

For reviews Taki Udon has covered it indepth with a lot of examples of how it performs emulating different platforms.

    Must resist, too many handhelds

I already own 6 (excluding my Gameboy collection) and really tempted by the classic clamshell. My only over clamshell is the much older/weaker Powkiddy V90 for a bit of casual fun.

  • Is this cheaper than Waiting for Ali's sale + coupons in a few days?

    • Yes. Currently the cheapest listing for the 64GB is costing me US$79.30 after US$7.98 shipping and GST. The coupon codes aren't going to make that cheaper than this deal.

You're looking at 7 to 15 business days.

transparent black or blue that can fit DIY inserts

Note: this requires you to take apart the top cover (undo screws under bumper sticker on the screen side)

I wished this does have some sticks. Even the crappy non stick sticks.

The Miyoo Flip will be a clamshell with analog joystick; but who knows when that will be released (especially after the mess with the Miyoo A30).

      • Well, I got a few miyoo minis and they're pretty amazing, so I'm hoping the flip will be good too

      • What went wrong with the Miyoo A30? Sorry, still catching up on the ANBERNIC RG35XXSP and TrimUI Smart Pro reviews lol so many to keep up with.

Ignoring the cheaper build quality the main complaint is performance. For it to run SNES it needs to be overclocked which halves the battery life and generates a lot of heat. A lot of people speculate that their reasoning for an older CPU/chipset is that they had a lot of stock left over from the cancelled Miyoo P60 and it would make sense to reuse it for this.

Terrible d-pad, no 3.5mm or bluetooth, screen wasn’t great and poor performance out of the box at launch. Also doesn’t support Onion OS which is a big part of why many people like the Miyoo Mini Range

On the plus side, it has wireless, buttons other than d-pad are alright and analog stick might be handy.

All in all it seemed like the RG28XX was the better option of the recent 2.8” devices, but that has no WiFi and very small face buttons. Possibly safer to go for the RG35XX H if you want a horizontal device and skip the 2.8” ones, otherwise this (RG35XX SP) for clamshell and MiyooMini or RG35XX Plus for vertical.

Men will turn 35 and base their whole damn personality on one or more of:

      • sbc gaming consoles / portable gaming
      • golf / some other ball related sport
      • 3d printing
      • lawn and lawn maintenance
      • bbq / smoked meats
      • scotch and or whiskey
      • watches and watch collections
      • cars and car care (especially strict car washing routine)
      • crippling depression and wondering if they will ever be ‘good enough’, and how you only have two friends and they live in two totally different states to you and you see them maybe once every 10 years.

    1. Oh hell yea. Nice price considering current market.

    2. As I sat with this in my cart I had to think, I swear they just keep pumping out imperfect options on purpose to make use want more - like.. are we ever gonna see <THE> grail? And how many sbc console is too many sbc console?

I hear you. FWIW the main critique of these I've seen (the buttons) seems to improve after placing some tape underneath. Keen to give this a go when mine arrives

Found it cheaper on AliExpress delivered

    • Cheapest I found was US$79.30 including GST and shipping. How cheap did you find it? Remembering that GST is added at checkout of course.

  • Skip the Miyoo version but waiting for the R3xS version haha that has analog sticks

  • It'll be ~$85AU+GST on the 01/06.
    Cheaper with coupons.

      US$57.72 (~A$87.90) Delivered with code 'SCA4'

  • Why are the reviewers all raving this device? Same specs to the plus and H, why would you choose SP over plus or H?

    • +2

      Form factor and nostalgia.

Some people prefer the clamshell (closes to protects the screen, etc).
