    Is this a good thing?

    • +1

I haven't used this myself, however with a Pi it works out cheaper than similar items and quite a bit less than the capcom retro station, astro city mini, etc.

    • +2

Nah, it'll steal your snacks from your pantry and spend all night shouting into a headset playing CoD.

  • +7

If only it included the pi

  • +3

    Not bad I guess

Kinda half tempted to get one but run Simpsons season 1-10 on it like this since it already has the screen, speakers and connection to pro set up in a little bundle- The joysticks etc would be a nice bonus

    • +5

Nice, then you can switch over to Simpsons arcade.

    • Only 1 speaker though :)

      • Mount an internal Bluetooth speakers.
I think it will fit a Bose soundlink mini

      • Not a huge deal breaker imo but true

  • Great buy if you have a pi…

  • Any similar 2P ones for cheap?

  • at 34x28cm this would be awesome…if you strap it around your neck

  • Extremely tempted, but I always hated (already in the C64 days) to have the buttons on the right- being right handed.

    • +2

Thats true tho. I still got one just to play the old c64 classics on this like last ninja 1 and 2 and turrican etc lol

      • +1

Yep, I still love to play those and many others (who dares wins, spy vs spy, Summer-, Winter-, World-, California Games etc.).

This looks nice for single player game, except for the layout of the buttons. Hence, I'll stick with TV and my Competition Pro(s).
Can't remember where I bought them but got a couple for a half decent price when they were on special (probably eBay or Amazon) a couple of years ago.
Having some decent Joysticks makes a huge difference to whole experience.

        https://www.amazon.com.au/SPEEDLINK-SL-650212-BKRD-Competiti…?

        • +1

Yeah i have multiple ways of playing these already but for this price its alright. Them games are all classics still. Ive got 4 of these compettion pro joysticks when they were on sale on amazon from a few years back myself.

    • All the arcade games were/are like that, no?

  • +5

What is this… an arcade for ANTS?

    • +2

I don't wanna hear your excuses! The console has to be at least… three times bigger than this!

  • -2

ordered I have a old pi 3b I can use for this hehe

    • +1

wow people hate the pi 3b+ ay?

  • bargain!!

  • +3

I want this so badly but I have no technical skills. Is installing a raspberry pi hard? Ohh just think of all the retro Pokemon I could play on this bad boy

    • +1

There's a lot of pre-created Retropie images you can download. That means the operating system that runs everything and all games are reloaded. You just have to find the right image and burn it to an SD card. Putting a SD card and installing the a raspberry pi shield should be a straightforward process if you can follow a few steps and just a matter of plugging a free things in. Just make sure you download the right image for your Raspberry Pi version (3/4/5).

    • its only hard if you dont' know what your doing lol.

  • Ordered two. Should be pretty awesome to have in the office and tinker.

    • This is something all offices should have :D can we get a tax refund on this if we keep it at work?

      • Worth a shot… if your in IT field maybe at a stretch training / learning expense?
        *Not tax advice haha

  • This is actually so cool

  • +1

Must have been pricing error. Now showing as $169 instead of $64.

    • Shows that, but then add to cart its full price.
      Jaycar's website is a bit of a S%#tshow.

      • Now it just 404's each time I login.

  • +3

Btw heres a video of this for anyone thats interested -

    https://youtu.be/X67GPFRWgNE?si=zDF-ZjeSZnxhXW1b

    • The screen could have been improved as it doesn't look easy for eyes.

  • Shows $126.75 when I add to cart. Haven't tried logging in.

  • It shows $126.75 to me on checkout. Did they increase the price or is it a pricing error

    • Yes, it shows as $126.75 in the checkout. It says "promotion activated".

  • +1

Added to cart at $64 then website changed to show as $169

When I checkout interestingly I am still charge for $64

Not a fan of arcade game, but have a spare pi 3 at home so just a good fit for this

    • Same as you! I get it must be our lucky day!

  • +2

Old website shows weird pricing. New website shows $64
If not showing proplerly try the new website. Also disable adblocker, wouldn't even let me select a pickup store with Ublock Origin enabled.

    • Never known Jaycar has a new website. It doesn't let me checkout lol no ad block no vpn

    • +7

Thank you so much, i managed to buy from new website at $64

      Use https://shop.jaycar.com.au/10-inch-screen-raspberry-pi-retro…

      • Damn, I just went with $126.75 from the link in the OP. What's the deal with Jaycar having two different websites?

      • Ordered 3 units (checkout as guest) for $144 total then their page bugged on me but paypal payment went through. Grrrr

        Pic

        • 2 for $96 works too!
          Let's see what happens.

          • @bongo007: PayPal bugged out for me too - giving a "blocked" error on Jaycar's side. I spoke to their support and let them know the transaction IDs, but for now the money is locked behind preauths.

Entering details manually, as much as I didn't want to, worked.

      • website error

        DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

they have no idea. Oh well didnt need one anyway.

    • Is this a scam?

      • +1

I think its more a case of only really wanting to support one website and really not caring about updating anything on the other.

    • I heard their new website is built using commcertools. They must be still in the transition period between old and new website

  • Now just need a 5v 5a power supply for the Pi5 I have doing nothing

    • The official Raspberry pi 5A 5V power supply is just over $20.

      • +1

Yeah, there were none in stock when I got my Pi5. So I played with it for a bit, but left it sit until I could get one. They seem to have stock in a lot of places now. Will order locally and hopefully pickup arcade case and psu at the same time. I also only have microhdmi to hdmi cables not adapters, so might have purchase those too.

The screen alone in this is worth it for the $64 in my opinion!!

  • thanks OP.
    Nice little project, bought one.

  • By the time you add a pi you might as well get a powkiddy a13 or a12

    • +1

Most people interested in this likely already have pi's.
Also looks like it would be fairly easy to replace buttons and joystick in this (the wearable items). So for $64 if you already have a pi its pretty neat. But agree if you are doing it all from scratch there may be "better" options availiable.

      • Planning to use the screen only as it has micro HDMI. And a old phone, emulator and wireless controllers

      • +1

True, I have an old Pi 3B+ I was going to use as a cheap Plex server that will be perfect for this :)

  • +1

Just got a ready for collection notification 😁

  • O wow it went up already lol what a good deal got it local pickup too at my local jaycar

    • +1

Still $64 on the new website. Old website has varying pricing for some reason.
Use this link and try your luck.

  • -1

Pi 3 b+ connects perfectly with this no additional adapters or nothing :)

  • +1

Can u network 2 of these together for a local 2 player experience?

    • I think it has something called "netplay" not sure what it supports or how laggy it would be? You could always tether a bluetooth controller or use an additional USB controller for the authentic split screen expirience on a single console 🙂

  • +1
  • Does a pi 5 work in this?

    • It should. The GPIO pins are the same. The only issue might be the power (Pi 5 requires 3A or 4A I cannot remember correctly) so you may need to get a separate power / usb-c charger for it YMMV (also you can see some discussion above)

      • +2

        gpionext = not compatible unfortunately.

        • What do you mean by this? I have a pi5. What isn’t compatible?

          • @nickraphael: Software that interfaces with GPIO is quite different and not yet compatible. The buttons and joystick won’t work ‘out of the box’ with pi5.

  • Anyone order from the new site and successfully click and collect, what was the turnaround time like? Been waiting l over 2 hours for collection confirmation.

    • I ordered at 1:34pm and recieved confirmation to collect at 2:44pm. Will pick it up tomorrow though.

      • Thanks for replying, I ordered two through the old site and collected. Ordered one through the new site and still waiting for confirmation to collect.

  • MISSED OUT OMG!

    • +2

      Still up here

      • Can confirm this works still. Chrome it appeared to not go through and couldn't click the 'place order' button, but Edge it worked fine.

And now on reviewing my bank account i've been charged three times lol

  • I got charged by PayPal, but then the website had an error and the order didn't go through. I ordered again and have picked it up, but hopefully getting that extra charge back won't be too much hassle.

    • Yes same here, need a chargeback, hopefully they can process it smoothly

  • +1

FYI I picked one up this afternoon in store. They have a sign in store “$64 on sale”, so it’s not a pricing error.

They also had a demo model in store to play around with, it was running a Pi 4 with heaps of games from many diff consoles. They mentioned similar to what is commented here too that Pi 3 runs fine too and prob even easier to setup. Just need a keyboard to assist with some of the setup but all the details are in the box.

    • What type of screen does it have? IPS?

      Resolution?

      • +1
        • No part number listed on that site for the panel.

What makes you think it's that one?

Driver board looks completely different to what's shown in the YouTube video that was posted earlier.

          https://youtu.be/X67GPFRWgNE?t=667

What's the actual part number on the sticker on the back of the panel?

          • +1

            @HomeAlone: b101aw03

When I Googled it, the Core page came up. Must have been a sponsored link.

  • Mine didn't come with a power cord to plug into 12v socket at the back, do they come with a power cord to plug into the 12v socket in the back?

    • +1

      they are supposed to.

      • Thought so. Thank you.

  • +1

Ordered 2 for pickup in Geelong for $96 total. Can’t get em til next Saturday. Got PayPal confirmation, no Jaycar email yet. Fingers crossed!

    • How did you get for $48?
Edit: I see, 25% off sale over the weekend.

  • anyone had issues with this https://www.jaycar.com.au/medias/sys_master/images/images/10… ? when i clone the git it asks for user name and password to git hub repostory..

    • all good worked it out just generated a token on my get hub profiles works like a charm.

  • Ugh the website goes bananas when i try to select the store. what a pile of rubbish

    • Yeah same. And all of the items I added to cart that said "available for delivery" were then "out of stock" when I went to check out

    • Change it to Desktop site.

  • +2

I saw the price in the deal, so ordered via PayPal, which failed. Then tried card, which also failed. But PayPal order charged me and card has an auth on it!

So off to their call centre…

    • +1

same issue here, plz lmk how you go

      • +1

I called their call centre, who asked me to send an email to [email protected] with screenshots/details of what went wrong.

No record of my orders in their system at all - so all in all just a massive pain the butt.
