Coles Mastercard gift cards do not support mobile wallets. I just tried adding one to Samsung Wallet (and then Apple Pay), and got card not supported error messages.

      • +1

        Thanks.

    • Not possible.

  • I live in Melbourne, and i am struggling to find the $100 giftcards in quite a few Coles supermarkets.
Is anyone else having the same problem too ?

    • It doesn't start until wednesday and you only need 5 per account for the promotion. I find stores in lower social areas have more cards on the rack. YMMV.

      • +1

Odd going by previous threads it seem like chances are better in affluent suburbs, but really YMMV.

  • +1

Can anyone advise, when using a debit/credit card to pay, say, rates online, they often require to include NAME ON CARD when imputing the card details. Does it matter what you use with these cards?

    • +3

They don't care what name you put since there is nothing to verify against

  • +1

Does Coles usually allow split pay with 2 credit/debit cards for mastercard gift cards?
If i pay $200 on one card and $50 on another does that work?

    • +5

Coles self checkouts will only let you do split payments on purchases of gift cards if you insert cash into the checkout first, then pay the remaining amount owed on one payment card (e.g. Visa, Mastercard, AMEX). You will not receive any change on the cash you insert. If you instead press on the Mixed Payments button on the checkout screen (e.g. to attempt split payments between two payment cards), you will trigger an error message.

Coles standard checkouts (i.e. the checkouts where a dedicated checkout assistant scans and packs your groceries for you) can do split payments between multiple payment cards when you are purchasing gift cards. However, this is at the discretion of the checkout assistant, plus it relies on the checkout assistant actually knowing how to do this (and I once ran into a situation where a young checkout assistant had no idea how to do split payments and spent a couple of minutes trying to figure it out).

      • Hey Wookie,

Regarding the self checkouts paying cash + card for gift cards. You select cash (not mixed payment), insert cash and if there is a shortfall the terminal will give you the option to pay the balance on a card?

Also, what is the gift card quantity/value at self checkouts before a staffer has to approve the transaction?

        • +4

if there is a shortfall the terminal will give you the option to pay the balance on a card?

After you finish inserting cash, if there is a shortfall, there should be an option on the payment screen to go back to the payment options screen and choose to pay the remaining amount owed using a different payment method. Keep in mind that you cannot get change from the cash you have inserted, so you will need to insert the exact amount of cash you want to spend.

what is the gift card quantity/value at self checkouts before a staffer has to approve the transaction?

All transactions are supposed to require approval from a staff member, but there was one instance earlier this year where I did not require approval from a staff member to purchase a gift card (which was odd).

If you are purchasing gift cards that cost $1000 or more, you will need to get additional approval from a service supervisor or duty/store manager.

        It's 7:10 am and I'm at Coles.
I can confirm this combination of payment method no longer works.
The EFTPOS machine shows "invalid" when I scanned my Coles gift card.
There is also no more fuel voucher for buying these gift cards.

Nah I got fuel offers on mine.

          • @cooni: oops, you're right.
It wasn't there at 7am this morning but came back at around 2pm this afternoon.

        • -1

I can confirm this combination of payment method no longer works.

What payment combination are you referring to?

  • Is coles local partcipated?

    • +2

I highly doubt it, because the deal terms and conditions state that this deal is only available at Coles Supermarkets.

The Coles store locator lists Coles Supermarkets locations as Coles, whereas it lists Coles Local locations as Coles Local.

Additionally, the weekly Coles catalogue (where this deal is sourced) says that deals advertised in this catalogue may not be available at Coles Local.

There has also been a couple of comments in past gift card deals at Coles where people tried to purchase gift cards shown in the Coles catalogue, but did not receive the advertised discount (or were told by store staff that Coles Local does not participate in such gift card deals). I cannot find these comments though after a few minutes of searching…

      • +3

Coles local is Coles supermarket, have been buying and
        Points rewarded

        • I can confirm the same - bought previously and got the extra points / 10% off

  • Am I correct in understanding that you can purchase the 5 cards in seperate transactions?

Hoping to use the luxury EFTPOS card from woolies to get these but of course 5 x $105 = $525 which is more than the $500 they are and I don't want to have to mess around with the cash thing to do split payments.

    • +1

      Yes, separate transactions work too.

  • +5

Can confirm that the luxury Eftpos card from Woolworth’s works for these

    • Thanks for sharing. Did you buy 5 of the $100 in one transaction? If so how did you handle paying the extra $25 on-top of the presumably $500 loaded onto the card?

      • +1

I did four. But if I’m not mistaken you should be able to do a split payment with a different card at a cashier. Or pay the $25 with cash at self checkout.

        • +2

So bought the 5 x $100 cards today. Went to the info desk to get a cashier's helps. The lady begrudgingly helped me with my split payments. Then when I presented my woolies luxury EFTPOS cards she proclaimed you can't buy gift cards with gift cards. I said I think this works and she reluctantly said let's give it a try. So all worked and now just to wait for my points.

Tldr. Split payments are possible by some act of god sometimes and the woolies luxury EFTPOS card from last week work at Coles for gift cards.

  • There were only ~25 purples at my local Coles.
By the time I paid my 5, there were all gone.
Everyone there waiting for the gate opened were after purple.

  • -1

There were stacks at the two stores I visited - so 2 lots of 5 on different accounts so far. Already used on the rates. Will get some more this arvo for my third account from the store near work. Easy 75 bucks.

    • +2

Just wondering why the fact I have multiple accounts gets a neg? Shouldn't we all be playing gthe game to get more bonuses?

  • +3

2 out of my 5 cards I opened this morning had missing numbers, so I called the 07 call centre number and we went around in circles trying to spell out my address as they are located overseas, and it can take up to 30 business days for replacements.

    • +1

Similar to this story. Scammer scraped them off so that you can not use it.

      • Oh wow, didn't even know that was a thing, it's been stopped and it's got full $100 loaded on the card, so they will replace, but its the hassle of waiting

    • @Anna8 Sorry to hear but great that it's being sorted.
May I ask which state or Coles store you bought these cards from?
I've been buying these Coles MC cards over 1.5 years and it's the first time, I heard about missing numbers.

@Neoika Thanks for the video link. Hope they improve the security.

@WookieMonster Just wondering if we open these cards in-store, straight after purchasing and there are missing numbers, would Coles swap for another one (without affecting the Flybuys bonus) or do we still need to contact the call centre? Such a hassle if the cards are compromised. May not be worth the small discount.

      • Yes, I've also been buying around the same time, and this was the first I've seen with missing numbers, from Coles in inner city Melbourne

        • can you please provide more details ? Is it $250 or $100 coles mastercard?

And which Coles were you buying them from ? As I normally buy them near CBD coles too…need to be more careful now

      • +2

You would be at the mercy of whatever the staff member at the service desk thinks should happen. Considering the sale of the gift card with missing numbers would have been approved, I would expect Coles staff to tell you to call InComm to sort it out. Coles staff cannot reverse the approval/activation of a gift card once its purchase has been approved.

If you want to make your life easier, open up the gift card packaging and inspect the gift card for evidence of tampering before you start paying for it. Of course, only do this if you are 110% committed to purchasing the gift cards, as I doubt a Coles staff member will be impressed with you if you open up the packaging of a non-tampered gift card and then decide to back out of purchasing it (especially with how popular these deals are and the limited stock for these gift cards at many Coles stores).

        • +1

@WookieMonster That's a good idea. Will consider asking the staff if I could check for tampering before payment but definitely would buy the card. Thanks

          • @trixieb: They will say no. Just do as WookieMonster suggests.

            • @Yola: Thanks. I didn't dare to try. Took one look at the staff 🤣

      • Without some digits, you may still be able to swipe the card for instore purchases, unless scammer tampered magnetic strip or used it online before you.

        • Yeah, I thought that too… I had walked home and tried to pay bills online by 7.10am, so hopefully I got in early before the scammers could use it

        • +1

I am pretty sure they would considering how easy it is to erase the magstripes compared to scratching out the digits.

  • In my local store (big) this promotion not displayed. I hope it’s for all locations

    • +2

I wish they had a real time points system like Woolies, cause we have no idea if you will get those points until about 5pm the day after

  • My partner and I share a Flybuy balance but have two cards. Does the 5-card limit apply per "account" for bonus points mean we can only get 5 as a group or 5 each?

    • +4

It will be 5 combined. I previously assumed different card numbers and names on cards meant it was seperate and got caught out.

      • -1

sorry to hear that! thank you for the valuable information.

    • +2

You really want seperate accounts to get more offers of bonus points.

      • +1

Second this. My wife registered for a new account only for this reason.

  • My local has heaps of $100s. I bought heaps and there's heaps left.

    • Which store?

      • Burwood NSW

        • They let you buy more than 5 per person? My store doesn't let me buy more than 5 per person per day so I have to go back tomorrow to scan my wife's flybuys account.

          • @happyadventurer: This time they did.
You could have potentially argued and pointed to the rule of 5 per flybuys account not per person but if they say no then what can you do.

            • @cooni: Yeah I couldn't do anything given it has to be approved. I didn't want to argue with them and I got the feeling they thought I was a scam artist. I'm secretly hoping the same staff person is at the store tomorrow and next few days just so I can prove how pointless their rule is.

            • @cooni: @cooni: Can I ask if you are using multple Flybuys account or same Flybuys account for all transactions? Cheers

              • @sandika: Definitely multiple flybuys accounts. You won't get points beyond the first 5 per account.

        • All out when I went at 7pm tonight

  • +1

How long till fly buys points take to be credited?

    • +1

Usually appears the day after around 5pm (that's from my own observation)

      • On the nose! Exactly what happened

  • Just curiosity, if we buy the $100 card do we have the 100 points plus 2000 points or purely just 2000 points

    • +4

You will get 105 pts + 2000 points per card.

    • capslock is correct - it’s a BONUS 2000 points so you also get the 105 from the original purchase

  • Seems we cannot pay AGL bill anymore.but able to use 10 cards to pay ato.

    • use paypal

    • 10 cards per day limit to ATO?

    • I just get this card paying my electricity and gas bill to AGL yesterday

      • U used through Australian post website, couldn’t do directly

        • I just pay via AGL app direct payment

  • Coles Pimpama on the Gold Coast had plenty at midday today

  • Tried to buy some of these gift cards at Coles today to pay off HECS debt. Hit a few limits along the way.

Shopback Supermarket (Activ Visa) cards might have a limit per store. Me and my family were able to purchase these gift cards using Shopback Supermarket cards, but the transactions started getting declined after spending ~$1900 across 7 transactions within 10 minutes (error code 12 - invalid transaction). I tried making a low value ($3) transaction on a different checkout after this, but the transaction was also declined. Unfortunately I don't know when this limit resets.

ATO also seems to only allow using 10 cards before payments get declined, I will try paying the rest of the debt tomorrow to see when this limit resets.

    • For the Shopback supermarket, the limit will be lifted after 2 or 3 business days. I think it's just the time to confirm that purchase transaction.

Not sure about ATO limit though.

      • My experience: through governmenteasypay 5 each day. Through ATO: 8-10 cards each day this year, 5 cards last year each day

    • +1

good test to find max in one go :)

were total $1900 spent on one wallet or cross 2-3 phones?

      • +1

$1900 was spent across 2 phones, but after that another phone at another terminal within the same store also started getting declined transactions. So the limit seems to be at per store level.

    • I tried paying using Shopback Supermarket Activ Visa today (Fri) and it declined but my Google Wallet auto-switched to my default payment option which I didn't want to do. It worked on Wednesday so I'm guessing the store limit didn't get hit then.

      • I paid $300 and then $210 immediately both worked fine. It seems that there is no more $400-$450 maximum can use within certain time period limit. Some thing better.

  • I found that if you have any Coles insurance linked to your flybuys, you can take away $10 for 2000pts when purchasing these gift cards.

This means you literally buy $100 MC for only $95 (since the 2000 points will be surplused each other).

  • If you got heaps of Flybuys points, would it be better to set Auto Transfer to Velocity so you get 15% Bonus Points including your existing Flybuys points or better not to link? Any thoughts?

Is this promotion only limits 5 cards to purchase per Flybuys account during promotion?

    Cheers

  • Do you get Amex reward points if buying these cards?

    • it would be regular spend at Coles, if paying via Amex you will get reward points on the spend

  • Has anyone been brave enough to try Coles Central Raine Square?

(there's no $100 GC left, so I assume so)

Did you get the bonus flybuys? The cashier warned me off doing so.

  • I just checked and only got 525 points from my purchase yesterday. should be I worried?
usually the bonus points come at the same time.

    • Same here. It’s not showing up in my list of transactions on app.

      • Same here, only base points

    • +2

I would not be too worried at this stage.

      • The Flybuys website says points should be credited into your account within 24-48 hours.

      • During the previous week’s deal on Apple gift cards, one person commented that their points were credited two days later.

I just received the standard and bonus points for the $250 Coles Mastercard gift cards I bought yesterday, so fingers crossed you will have yours credited tomorrow.

      • Thanks. Can you see your purchase in the activity section of the Flybuys app/website?

        • +2

Not yet, but I only made one purchase at Coles yesterday and the points balance went up by the amount I expected it to go up by for yesterday’s purchase.

I will be able to see yesterday’s purchase in the activity section around 6pm Sydney/Melbourne time.

EDIT: I can see the purchase in the activity section now, and it is just before 6pm Sydney/Melbourne time.

    • same here. not same as the previous deals

    • The bonus points are being loaded up just not showing on the transaction history

      • My Coles Mastercard gift card purchase from yesterday just appeared in the activity section of the Flybuys app.

I think it is safe to say that it should appear in the activity section around 5:45pm Sydney/Melbourne time.

        • I bought mine on 22/5 and it dhow up under activity today around 5pm

  • Do I need to any 5 separate transaction if I’m buying 5 x 100 cards ?

  • Bought 5 yesterday, Points credited today after 5pm.

But only received 4000 fb points so far , still missing 6000 :(

    • strange most people don't received any bonus points at all.

    • Did you split it into 1,1 and 3 cards?
