  • It's a shame it uses the old display interface.

great price for low cost trial to dip your toes in to see if you want to commit to 3d printing.
(its a bloody scary slippery slope - one day you start with 1 roll of cheap pla - nekminit you got a whole damn library of pla/petg HAHA)

    • +2

      Indeed this is true.
And just to add my annoyance that the current eBay 15% / 22% discounts don't extend to filament, unlike recently.

Also to add that the learning curve is steep but I find it very rewarding. I am totally hook, line, and sinker.

Edit: Just realised it was you that I was discussing the discounts with recently lol.

      • yeah spewing hey - might get 20 rolls next time theres a 20-22% offer.

yeah i also find it very rewarding. i did my first custom model over the weekend (everything else had been just minor edits to pre-done stl). Made up some little name plates for my FIL's crab pots. Turned out bloody ace. how well will PLA last in the UV/salt water…that is to be determined lol

Yeah I've done a few custom models now and it's so satisfying. e.g. had an old outdoor broom head that is perfect in terms of size and weight etc but the threaded section on the stick broke off years ago and I have not been able to find a replacement that fit. Now it's finally fixed.
          The applications seem endless.

Yeah I'm surprised none of the codes apply for the usual Jayo/Sunlu sellers. Having said that, emphasis on "usual" as I'm waiting on a 15-22% coupon for the monthly P or CBT codes which usually do apply.

    • Yep. Get this, enjoy it, then spend the money on a Bambu Lab printer and sell this for nothing.
Or keep it if you enjoy the challenge.

      • +2

keep it and remember the good times

(or be like me and angry at myself for not just going balls deep and splashing out on bambu from step 1)

        • +2

Mine sat in my cupboard for months til I sold it a few weeks ago.
It was good memories, and I also wish I went all out at the start. I want an AMS but they are only really cheaper when you buy the bundle at the start.

          • @theguyrules: yeah i saw a code on reddit the other day i think it was an offer for 20% off ams, but buying it as a bundle was still way cheaper

i was going to move ams lite to a1 (when i get one) - but i think i will just buy an a1 kit new - then have 4 colours at each machine.

            • +2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: That was AMS lite unfortunately.
The full one doesnt seem to go on sale

              • +1

@theguyrules: ah yeah - they prob figure if you had enough cashola to splash out on p1s or similar you will prob cop full price for a new ams too haha

        For me it was:
        1. Buy cheap printer (aquila).
        2. Find out what I enjoyed about printing and wanted to print (mostly functional stuff).
        3. Find a printer that fit what I wanted at a decent price (which was qidi not bambu).
        4. Be very happy with that printer, but also wish for an AMS for the odd print and convenience.
        5. Try to figure out a way to get the time and approval to build a Voron with a toolchanger.

Bambu’s are great but not for everything. One of my client uses a print farm of these for TPU. The Bambu/new gen printers are a waste in that use as it’s not a material print that can be done fast.

        • +1

Fair enough. For the average user though the Bambu's are just so much easier.

  • Klipper addon screen currently on sale on the Sovol Ali Express store. Upgrade your screen as well as moving to Klipper.
I bought an SV06+ just over a month ago. Still trying to tune my Klipperise model for speed but its been good at the normal Marlin speed.

    • Asking for a friend… What benefit does that screen/Klipper have over the standard operations

      Is this it?

Klipper is a whole new printer operating system, basically. I don't know what the Sovol is like, but Klipper has features like input shaping and an advanced control method that can lead to faster and better quality prints, as well as quality of life improvements that advanced users appreciate (like easier firmware updates and config changes).

  • I've got this printer and have been happy with it. More reliable than ender3, but still with enough learning curve to force you to learn something. Sure it's not a bambu but it's fine for functional prints at a fraction of the cost.

    • More reliable than ender3

      That is…not a high bar… lol

      • Disagree. Ender 3 is an excellent machine, especially V3 KE.

        • You must have received one of the rare KEs that were put together properly.

          • @Stevesie76: Yeah it's perfectly fine. I can't say I've heard of any major issues though.

            • @bboz: Quite a few with loose screws, including on the hotend which has caused quite a few to leak. Mine were loose too, whole hotend was shifting during prints.

        • True, Ender 3 does not encompass one printer, but MANY.
I always interpret 'Ender 3' to be the v2, as that's the classic. But I have heard that the V3s (SE, KE, and _) are actually pretty decent (though still a little varied in QA). They should really stop sticking with the Ender 3 name give it's troubled history.

          • @NigelTufnel: Fair call, I was referring to the v2, I dont' have any experience with the more recent varients.

Bought this in the previous sale a couple of months ago (maybe less) and I've been having a great time printing functional stuff. Probably best I don't experience better printers, so I'm not tempted to buy an upgrade.
