  • The temptation

  • Yes Sure is Tempting

Better than the X1C in most ways, Bambu Lab now needs a new flagship printer, as other brands' printers have surpassed its current models.

    • Um, have you even compared the two on paper? This is more of a P1S competitor.

      • +4

I have been using the X1C for years and recently watched review videos of the Centauri Carbon. The Centauri Carbon competes with the X1C, while the Centauri (no carbon) series competes with the P1 series. Aside from branding, the X1C and P1 now offer similar or even lower performance compared to Elegoo's models. Ignoring all the specs and looking only at the price, the choice is clear—unless Bambu’s next-gen printer changes the game.

        • I have a P1S and just got this .
it is just as good, but the lack of multi material and multi colour options is quite limiting.
I don't do multi colour printing (2 to date) but definitely having the option of PLA and petg combination or even just switching filaments on ams makes it so much more convenient
But if, as mentioned, on another comment , they are going to introduce similar capabilities, I believe it may be a better option on price

    • Ahhh I dunno where you're getting that from. One of these printers is double the price of the other. They are not in the same market. And Elegoo have no Multi Color & Multi Material Capability. So bzzzt. I don't think so.

(Not to mention Elegoo printers usually have a few teething issues at launch - I own a Neptune 4 Max and it's a fine printer but I'm glad I didn't buy it at launch).

Literally states on their page that multi-colour is coming in Q3 2025.

For some people, AMS might be a good option, but I don’t use multi-color printing even though I have AMS, as it wastes too much filament and takes too long to print. Centauri Carbon has a filament-cutting system, a poop hole, and a nozzle-cleaning system. This means that sooner or later, they might release a similar system to AMS.

You mentioned that Centauri Carbon and the X1C are in different markets, and that is completely true since the X1C costs more than twice as much but mainly offers a better brand name and a fancier design only. Seriously, Bambu Lab needs a new printer to replace the X1C.

        • I have the anycubic ams.

It only wastes too much filament if you do more than highlights or words, not sure multi material always means lots of wasted filament. Only if you print wasteful things to start with.

It's also a drier, bambu is really lacking there.

Not loading filament overall is great.

On a tangent the only issue with the anycubics other than proper mac slicer support is the build plate isn't 1cm thick like it should be.

One of these printers is double the price of the other. They are not in the same market.

Just because something is twice the price, doesn't mean the cheaper option can't be as good or better than the expensive option. If you don't need multi-colour (X1C is not multi-material), then there are options that are better than the X1C in many ways for less money. e.g. bigger build area, heated chamber, etc.
Not saying this one is 'better', but that's a bad argument.

        • X1C is not multi-material

Didn't they mean types of filament? TPU, ABS, etc.

          • @redpen: No, because that's not something that separates it from the elegoo then. It has the same capability with that regard.
And there are better printers than the X1C for that definition anyway as it doesn't have an active chamber heater that opens up more materials.

        • Okay but you completely ignored Elegoo's track record of awful launch product vs Bambu's mature offering. It's a no-brainer. I'd never recommend an Elegoo over a Bambu because one just works, and the other, likely, not so much. Let it shake out for six months and look at it again, but buying it at launch will be folly.

Now I do think there are two kinds of people that buy 3D printers - those who don't mind the tinkering (me and Elegoo product), and those who just want things to work (Bambu). You do you.

  • I've been waiting for a good deal on the A1, but this is looking pretty good. Anyone who is knowledgeable in this area break down some pro's and cons for each?

Good old Australia tax. This is $299.99 USD in the states which is less than $500 AUD. Even after some sales tax on top of the US price this should be under $600. Particularly lately since it's coming from China and surely this makes the US a more expensive option…

  • 320 degc hotend is tempting

  • +2

I was following the launch and was ready to buy when i heard the 300$ price tag, but really feeling cheated after the AU conversion to 699$, at that price point I'd go for a P1S/P1P, very upsetting :(

  • +7

Yeah this isn't much of a "deal" when the Australian pricing is so out of whack with other regions.

It also isn't shipping til April. Plenty of time to wait for some "actual" user reviews and see what problem(s) arise from elegoo this time.

  • +1

Most stuff on the elegoo website is free shipping over $70. Except this where you get a $50 discount, and then need to pay $50 shipping. Feels like it's just going to be $699.99 with free shipping later anyway. Where's the bargain? This is just an ad.

  • damn, the centauri at $550 looks like a bargain. basically the same price as an A1 from Bambu.
