Comparing the long wide vs my sea to summit comfort light that I already have knowing I don’t need but I want

      Nevermind I got it

I also have a sea to summit pad but couldn't help myself and pulled the trigger on the insulated long wide

any ideas of productiom date? early runs of this matt seem to be very prone to air leaks after some light abrasion to the fabric. Supposely been addressed by Nemo but you could be buying a defective mattress if its been sitting on the shelf for a while

I just saw the article you’re referring to, that was from just under a year ago that mentioned manufacturing improvements starting a year before that. I called Paddy Pallin and they can’t tell from the box when it was made, but they said stock turns over much faster than 1 year in store. Although we don't know how long it could have been sitting in a warehouse before that. From what I understand it would be covered by Nemo lifetime warranty though.

Can anecdotally confirm that I've had one small leak on my mat (bought 4-5 years ago). At the time I patched it with glue, but knowing that it's a common issue I might ask for a replacement under warranty if it happens again.

Great mat otherwise, light and packs small.

  • This is a great deal!
So tempting but I think i'll get the new extreme as it's got a better R value for snow camping :)

Just wondering how do you think you would go in the snow if you combined the Tensor insulated mat with a closed cell foam mat like the Thermarest z lite underneath? I am thinking of doing something like this if needed.

      • Yeah it works great.

You don't really need more than about R6-7 for Aussie conditions. But R values roughly stack anyway, so a R4 and R3 gets you around R6.

The main problem is that lots of companies don't have full coverage for the insulation layers to save weight or costs, those do not stack properly and are basically useless in winter.

The first generation Sea to summit insulated mats did this and they got roasted for it.

The next gen were much heavier and bulkier.

You'll be fine with this and a zlite or similar (decathlon have a cheap one)
I did 30 days or so of snow camping last year on a R4.0 mat with with a Zlite :)

Is it any good though? Have you tried it?

The most uncomfortable pos I've ever purchased

this has to be bait right?

    • It’ll be a challenge with getting any sleep on that in spring autumn and definitely winter here in Victoria or Tasmania. It’s maximum resistance value would probably be 2.

    • I bought these Kmart ones after considering the more expensive versions. The Kmart ones are great and pack down tiny. Used in tents on nights that got down to around 6-7 degrees in South West WA. Is the one posted worth 4x this? That's up to your needs but it certainly wasn't for me.

The kmart one is trash. No real internal bffling system and the R value is much lower.

The self inflating mat on the other hand is amazing! Bit heavy for hiking, but for car camping beats a lot of my other expensive stuff.

  • Sale over?

  • Bought the insulated version on a recent sale in LW and took it to NZ in freezing temps. Had no issues whatsoever. Inflates well, doesn't make much noise and it plenty warm.

  • Many years ago there was a lite variant of both the insulated and non insulated versions of this mat. It was like half the weight and had the same insulation rating for marginally more money. I never bought one and I've been kicking myself since because it stopped being produced. Paddy pallin still has the product page up on their store but it has been out of stock for years.

    • I believe they stopped making them because the insulation was separating internally.

      It was 2 layer anchored.

The newest ones are 4 layer single side floated

      • What does that mean? Actually I had it wrong I was thinking of the Astro mats.
