This is the cheapest possible way to get a number, park a number, use for OTP or sign up to marketing spam in Australia for a whole year. Free incoming texts when roaming in the countries listed in the CIS.

The total cost of $7 in the first year consists of the $2 SIM (eSIM available) and the first $5 activation credit valid for the first 365 days. Subsequent recharges are $10 and last for 365 days. It has cheaper calls to 13/1300 numbers, cheaper data and generally cheaper international rates (e.g. same SMS price for national and international numbers) compared to amaysim's $10 option.

Lebara PAYG Standard plan uses Vodafone 4G network.

        Let's assume @UncommonName meant "use TOTP based MFA if it's available over OTP via SMS" instead of discouraging to use it at all. SIM swap fraud is a real issue.

        They usually give an advanced notice of disconnection. With my last Boost sim it was after like 7 or 8 months after expiry

      Yes and when used with an iPhone you can make FREE audio and video calls (via FaceTime) and send SMS (via iMessage) when connected to any WiFi.

      Of course you can also do this with Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp etc on either Android or iPhone but iMessage and Facetime calls are so simple with an iPhone.

      So just as long as you can receive calls and SMS at no cost using any of these PAYG plans you can always call or message back over any WiFi connection

      When I was a teenager, Telstra had a loophole where call diversion was free on prepaid. When I wanted to call a mate who was on another network, I would divert my phone to his number and then call myself.

      It lasted quite a long time before they caught onto it lol.

        Yup my cousin claimed to do it for international calls too. Just divert to international number. This is back when you had to buy $10 scratch cards for like 300 minutes to certain countries.

            Go straight to activation - I dont have a SIM CARD (only works if esim) then go through the prompt, pay and then an esim is generated.

    I would chose amaysim over Lebara if the below is correct.
    I have been told ( not tested myself yet) that unused credit on amaysim can be used to purchased the travel pack from $20. I’m currently with Aldi (spare number) and accumulated over $40 credit but no use. I wish Aldi had the travel pack.

      It's twue. Confirmed by reports on Whirlpool. The good thing about the amaysim roaming add-ons is their long expiry and that they can be rolled over. The bad thing is that the roaming on Optus can be a bit iffy. You also don't have the option of PAYG roaming on amaysim. FWIW, you don't need a roaming add-on to receive SMS.

      I can also confirm 100% works have it roaming in the Philippines from the $10 credit and the roaming pack lasts for one year with 2GB of data and 50 minutes of calls and 30sms

      I had an Amaysim PAYG sim plan for two years. Somehow the prepaid credit I added would mysteriously get consumed without me making any calls or SMS's. I disabled all services like message bank but this still continued. On the 2nd year of the plan they totally killed the service 11 months into a 12 month plan.

      Would not recommend and will be going Lebara this time round.

        I'd guess mobile data but whatever it was should have been shown on your usage. It is was a mystery for customer service too I'm sure they would have given you a credit. Can't explain why they killed your service but obviously you didn't ask them. I've been with amaysim for many years and they been great on the whole. I haven't been with Lebara for long but they wouldn't escalate my problem with VoLTE not working and in the end just blew me off since my phone is not on their very limited compatibility list. My phone works with another Vodafone MVNO and VoLTE works in other phones with my SIM. I don;t think any provider is perfect; my worst experiences have been with Optus retail and Dodo.

    I currently use Aldi PAYG for a 4G camera on a remote property, I'll probably switch to Lebara as the data rate is 3c vs 6c at Aldi.

    The Camera doesn't use enough data to make monthly or 365 day plans viable. I usually only spend $30-$50 per year on recharges with aldi.

    I do have a couple of question on Lebara:
    1. Does anyone know if you are on a PAYG plan, can you accept data gifted from another Lebara customer?
    2. Is it possible to setup auto recharge on the PAYG plan? This is one of my bugbears with Aldi. Can't setup auto recharge on the PAYG plan, and they will not send low balance notification to an email or different mobile service, only an SMS to the camera which is useless to me.

      Before switching, check if your remote property has any Vodafone signal as vodafone is much worse in rural areas compared to optus and telstra networks.

            All I saw was "Gift your data with our 30 Day and Long Expiry plans, you can gift up to 2GB data per transaction up to 5 times per 30 days to another Lebara service. There’s a total limit of 10GB every 30 days. To gift your data, head to MyLebara. Alternatively you can send an SMS to 126172 and follow this format that includes the mobile number of the service you want to gift the data to: Gift XXMB mobile number. For example: Gift 1024MB 04XX123456."

            I also read the CIS for the standard plan and found no mention of automatic recharge.

    Parked my Optus Flex number that was about to expire.

    I went directly to activation, then port in and then choose 'don't have a sim'.

    Number was ported out to Lebara, and the esim was available in the Lebara app - no need to buy one.

    Hi guys, just a random question please. I am thinking to purchase a Long Expiry Prepaid Plans with Lebara but have been reading the reviews and its not that great reviews out there :( I have never used their service before. I am just looking for a cheap prepaid plan and they have a promotion at the moment for $149 (RRP $200) for 360 days. I am currently with Telstra prepaid plan (12 months expiry) but they are increased their plan to $320.
    I just need a prepaid plan that unlimited call and text in AU and possibly oversea call to Thailand and that the reason I was looking to move from Telstra to Lebara but not too sure about their coverage. Any thoughts please.

    Location: Sydney NSW.

      Lebara uses the Vodafone network. Vodafone has the least coverage but often faster download speeds. Telstra retail and Boost the best coverage. Telstra wholesale MVNOs and Optus and their MVNOs roughly equal but somewhat less coverage. Decide on the network that you want including essential features e.g. Telstra allows VoWiFi from overseas and the amount of data. Unless you need unlimited calls to Thailand consider a VoIP MVNO for calls to Thailand rather than a mobile plan that includes them.

      It largely depends on the areas you stay, work, and travel around. Mostly it should be fine, and Vodafone gives you unlimited international calling to certain countries. Better than the Big-3, if you can manage all the tech/support part yourself :-)

    By the way, Optus and TPG/voda have signed a network sharing deal. So in theory you should have the combined coverage of both! Can Google the news article.

      Depends on the terms of the deal and only subject to the expected ACCC approval since the ACCC recommended it when it blocked the Telstra/TPG deal. Telstra's or anyone else's lawyers will be earning their money if they can convince the ACCC otherwise.

      amaysim has it so presumably other Optus MVNOs too. Lebara says it supports it.

      There really isn't any reason to regard it as a premium feature. The crappier network coverage the carrier has the more reason to have it.

      Oh and just because VoLTE works with Vodafone or one of their MVNOs on a phone that is no guarantee it will work with Lebara.

        Oh but VoLTE has to work with Lebara since there is no 3G now on Vodafone, everyone cannot make voice calls on Lebara otherwise!
