    Will consider at $249

      Wish it comes true soon

    • +4

Fold the price in half just like the phone eh?

    • me too

    • UN-likely, already 50% off.

Foldable screens can't match an equivalent fixed-screens…it's physic & the current technology screen will prove itself 3+ years from now. But some people don't care & prefer it.

      Mid-range-phone: consider Moto-Edge-40.
Edge-50-Pro-256Gb is out hence Edge-40 is likely to be on clear soon-ish, 50% off ~$350.
Other mid-range & higher model that were released 1 year ago are likely to be cleared soon too…consume to your heart's content 🤩.

$400 for a 5G phone, not to snazzy

    • +3

      $400 for a 5G phone

Yeah, I would have only considered it if it was 6G.

    • +1

      Not too shabby?

  • +2

Welp, I'm replacing my Mi 9T with this. Hoping the flip-phone meme is a worthwhile venture.
I've gotten an email that TopCashback has tracked the purchase, its shown up on the overview page but yet to hit "earnings". Looks like the $396 price will be legit - nice find!

It's not the most capable phone compared to some peers, but honestly this packs more than enough for non-gaming power users. E-sim, Snapdragon, 5G, mid-range price… pretty well a unicorn in this market.

    • +1

What's wrong with your Mi 9T, mine is still working great. Really good camera too.

      • -2

I would have bought a second hand s21 or s22 ultra over the razr phone TBH

      • +2

I am on PixelExperience, and its lost support - means I'm unable to use Google Wallet and a few things. But most importantly, I think some memory is dying, as I'm getting an increase in phone restarts and freezes. Otherwise, yeah.. my Mi 9T still kills it for battery, hardware, camera, everything I need.

Not really interested in the flip or 5G, but e-sim is a must for me. Experienced using e-sim overseas and my god it's a nicer experience than trying to find local sims, activating, troubleshooting etc..

  • +5

Poor sales of this phone just means it will keep dropping in price.

I wouldn't rush in buying this as I expect it to drop to $350 or below in the upcoming EOFY Sales

    • But op said it was "extremely popular". Which one is true?

      • -4

How many people have you seen carrying this phone? For me I've honestly seen no one yet.
That tells you how popular it is

        • +1

I've never seen it and I'm the guy that always asks people what phone is that when I notice a non-iPhone/Galaxy/Pixel

        • +1

Bet everyone scares that folding screen won't last. No one wants to risk that.

        • +2

"How many people have you seen carrying this phone?"

It's foldable , so you don't see people carrying it. Lol

          • @Tiggrrrrr: I've seen heaps with galaxy flip. Yet to see someone with this Motorola phone.

    • -1

Agree. Samsung and iPhone earned your trust to penetrate market and knock off Nokia. They had to offer lower prices, especially Samsung. Now that we are believers they can charge whatever they want.

Motorola going to have to have an amazing product and amazing price to pull market share. The original asking price was absolutely dreaming

      • +1

TBH, Samsung phone are sht. They try too hard with inhouse customisation. Makes it very laggy. As well, forces various Samsung apps onto users.

I own one because its camera is semi decent. No other alternatives in the local market aside from an iPhone.

The day Moto or Nokia puts a decent camera on their phone coupled with native Android experience, I am in.

        • +1

You are comparing which Samsung's phone with iphone if i may ask? Camera on s23 ultra is pretty darn good.

          • +1

@Bacha: 15 pro and s23 Ultra. Not gonna dabate which is better as they are all decent portable cameras. (I shoot with full frame DSLRs for proper photos. I guess all phones are no replacement for a proepr camera).

Found the local market to not have other alternatives to Samsung/Apple in terms of a semi decent camera phone.

            • @[Deactivated]: Majority of people would be happy with either phone's camera. I was referring to day to day performance and s23U is not laggy at least not for anyone i know. My experience is very good so far.

              • +1

@Bacha: Well, it is one of the most expensive phone and works okay.

Can lag from time to time and needs to clear "cache" using the boot up menu. Reuslt of very poorly optimised software. Adding salt to the wound, they just revamp their OS with AI integration - which I would rather not have. Becoming more of a joke as the days go by.

My old ROG Phone 3 performs just as well in day to day, but made the switch for a better camera.

        • Huawei was the biggest threat - better phone with competitive prices, now it's off international market.
Otherwise, we'd have better iPhone & Samsung for cheaper 4 years ago.
I always wonder so call free market nations are so proud when their products were thriving, but not when others follow them. Look at NOW EV market & countries' responses. Why AUS always missed the boats? Is it because we made so much money selling iron ore & natural gas, so we can prospect forever?

          • @Jamesx: Says it all here

            "Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil
Our home is girt by sea
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
            Of beauty, rich and rare
In history's page let every stage
            Advance Australia fair"

    • Doubt they'll wipe $150 from the price in just 2 months from now. Best it'll go is like maybe $430.

  • -1

I wouldn't risk using this considering how many time I have to use my phone during the day, the screen would peal off in a week or so.

    • -1

Agree. I wouldn't even consider buying because there is a finite limit on the phone. Why are we at this point in the tech world that it's ok to sell a product with finite use limit?

They are able to make pretty close to bezel less non flexible display (sharp aquos) why can't they just slap 2 together side by side Nintendo DS style?

      • +2

They just hide the parts they make finite. At least here is explicit

        • Yep let's just ignore the fact that most phones have a battery that can't be easily replaced.

          • @WatchNerd: They can, if your game enough

          • +1

@WatchNerd: I think batteries have evolved enough to last for a long period of time and charging has become so much faster as well and batteries can do more charge cycles then back in the days so it kinda is okay, well for me anyways.

But a soft screen that can break in few weeks or months is just unacceptable to me.

            • @itsmoe: Yes completely. Whoever suggest that battery is also an item that could die…it's nowhere near the same level.

At worst if battery goes you should still be able to plug it in and power on to save data, the death is very gradual. When a screen goes it's sudden and there is no alternative method to save data.

      • LG V50 had that and so did Microsoft Surface phone. However, V50, which I had, didn’t work well with the case.

  • Also $499 on the Bing Lee eBay store but only Summer Lilac colour

  • When it's $250 it'll be a nice backup phone for my Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

    • Thinking the same

    • +1

It's an awesome phone. After using it for a week, it will no way get to $250 ever. At $499 it was a steal.

  • +1

$399 would be a realistic price for this in a few months without cashback. The processor and camera is what let's it down. I think my Note 10+ is faster.

    • I've seen videos and photos take on a budget phone phone before, that is far cheaper than this with worse specifications. For the average user, current cameras are more than enough to take decent photos and videos. Sure the processor might not be the most powerful, it is still a decent flagship process albeit 2 years old. $499 is a very decent price for a flip phone, that is significantly cheaper than the Samsung Z Flip 3 or 4.

      • I don't think it's acceptable to put in a processor that's beaten by a 2019 flagship phone. That's 5 years behind and ongoing performance hit. Pair that up with the inherent risk of a foldable screen and a decent camera shouldn't be $500. My Note 10+ was $630 when I got it over 3 years ago.

        • But a 2019 flagship phone won't have the latest Android. So I guess the actual problem is Android. Otherwise we could all be using phones for more than three years.

  • The photo is not that bad according to the review - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYLKgFP2YSs

  • What is the benefit of these. Easier to fit in a pocket? But arent they quite thick when folded?

    • +1

It's definitely the fidget factor. THere's so many downsides. 5W wireless charging is not practical, lower water and dust resistance etc.

      The price is nice though

    • +2

I'm using my flip 5 so I can fit it in all my small shoulder / waist strap packets on my backpacks / hydropacks for MTB, running, and hiking.
Main limiting factor of other phones is overall length.
I use mine without a case so it's not too bad. They become way too thick with a case though.

    • Nostalgia, for those of us who had the pre-touchscreen Razr.

Otherwise novelty. It's just something a bit different which suits some but not others, like any other design variance in a phone.

It is thick when folded, but there's no more or less total phone than you'd have otherwise.

  • +1
    • Seems all shops try to get rid of this thing quick, bet someone said by EOFY, we will see this $350 !!! HODL

  • Is it reasonable to expect a 3 year consumer warranty on this phone considering phones are sold on 3 year contracts?

    • 2 years is reasonable considering lithium batteries degrade over time and it's something that cannot be avoided

  • +3

The number of folds to break Razr 40 Plus and Samsung Z Flip 5 has been tested.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v28cOaYfIw

    https://www.techradar.com/phones/folding-phones-have-wildly-…

"The Motorola phone’s hinge reportedly started to fail at roughly the 43,800 fold mark, with the screen breaking at around 126,300 folds. Meanwhile, Samsung’s phone’s hinge lasted until the 223,000 fold mark – but at 350,000 folds the phone’s screen was standing strong. One ‘fold’ counts as one complete cycle of closing and reopening the phone.

In more practical terms this means the Motorola Razr Plus Ultra hinge would be fine for roughly two years of using the phone an average of 60 times a day, with the screen surviving for five years and nine months. The Samsung Z Flip 5 would instead give you around 10 years of use before the hinge failed.

The scores are particularly interesting when you consider that Motorola has said its hinge is rated to last for 400,000 folds, while Samsung’s phone is only rated for 200,000."

    • The scores are particularly interesting when you consider that Motorola has said its hinge is rated to last for 400,000 folds, while Samsung’s phone is only rated for 200,000."

Samsung under quotes to avoid any future legal action regarding durability of the phone while Motorola over quotes in an attempt to gain market share.

      • OK, will be interesting to see review from all the owners from this deal, any broken hinge or screen even on arrival

      • That's a problem for 2026 Motorola to deal with…

    • I'm on 12,000 folds on my fold 5 since mid October and haven't noticed any changes.
Not sure about the Razr but the flip 5 includes 3 screen protector replacements from Samsung.

      • +1

        I traded my Flip 5 for a S24 Ultra after 2 months.

My main concern is the longevity of the screen. The plastic screen just doesn't give me much confidence, I mean it leaves a permanent dent just with your fingernails!

      • Curious how do you know you are on 12,000 fold?

        • +2

I use an app 'Fold Counter'

      • It's physic & chance. Your may break @ 24,000 or 240,000 folds, who knows ?

But if YOU prefer foldable, don't let others influence you. It's ALL-SUBJECTIVE.

    • Pretty sure in real life the numbers would be different. The number of fold's is not an exact science either and it is essentially a ticking time bomb.

    • +1

This is purely based on my experience with the Samsung Flip 4.
My Screen failed with unresponsive black bars after 6 month.
Around the same time, my friend's flip 4 also failed with smillar syptom.
Samsung repaired it under warranty, however, not buying another foldable again.

  • +4

I don't need a foldable phone, I need a shirt with longer pockets.

    • Or trackie pants with deeper pockets

cheaper at Big W if you don't want to risk cashback

    $449.10 delivered with code: XMAY2024

must be logged into an account linked to everyday rewards to use code

    • Not working. The account is linked and I get "Please enter a valid promotion code".

      • I think you need to be an everyday extra subscriber.

        That code worked for me.

      • 39 day free trial and it's only $35 for the first year

    • Wonderful. This could be a deal on its own. Just ordered one. My BigW account had just my everyday rewards linked (just the normal free membership, no subscription/trial needed) for the code to be accepted

  • Should I switch from pixel 6 to this?

    • I've got a Pixel 5, thinking about this …

  • Is TopCashback any good?!

1.7 rating on product review is very suspicious https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/topcashback-austra…

    • +1

All my cashbacks have tracked perfectly. They usually have better offers than other providers. The only gripe I have is they don't have an app. Make sure you disable ad and tracker blocking when clicking through.

  • Can't seem to order this from The Good Guys website… tells me to pick up from Geelong or Warrnambool, and I can't get it posted to me in Nunawading.

    • Only the Summer Lilac is available for delivery.

      • I went to Dandenong to pick up the cream one.
I wanted the green, but the closest store was Geelong…

  • Doesn't even have a headphone jack! What were they thinking!?

    • +2

Premium features like the headphone jack are reserved for their best models, the g54 and g84.

      • It's funny how the headphone jack became a premium feature.

        • Premium feature offered on lower end models. Go figure.

  • Cashback from Topcashback tracked at $90.

    • Nice, did it take a long time?

      • +1

It tracked within 5 hours (I ordered at 3 or so, and I checked at 9 o'clock).

        • Thanks mate for responding. I ordered at 4:42 PM yesterday, and nothing yet. Went via app, and paid via PayPal.

  • -1

Um guys can someone explain why something can be in stock and not deliverable? It's 2024 why do I need to pick up from one of the three inconveniently located stores in Brisbane? Is this not completely insane to anyone else?

    • Surely expecting delivery from one of the biggest outlets in aus isnt a big ask though?

  • +1

So, day one: when the phone went down to 35% battery, it just shut itself off - no warning.

    • Thats really sh|t … Gonna return it?

      • no, I want to hold onto my $90 cashback :P
if anything, I'll go through warranty with Motorola direct.
