upvoting because TIL they make 1TB+ microSD's now

    • +9

…that aren't just Temu fake SD cards haha

      • +5

Temu is upto 4tb for aud 100

        • +2

Does the "up to" mean you'll get a lucky dip of between a few hundred GB "up to" 4tb maybe, if you're lucky? That's been my experience when people have cheaped out on buying questionable memory sticks in the past. The result was 32gb branded sticks with less than 1gb usable in reality, when you start putting actual data on it.

        • +2

upto like you can write up to 4tb onto it. What you can read back….

          • +6

@furyou: The product is legit. You can physically write "up to 4tb" on the card itelself, very small text though, permanent marker.

            • @seamonkey: I voted on your comment but can't figure out how to unvote? Pressing the button again does nothing?

              • +2

@Mondorock: hehe don't worry mate, the upvote/neg comment feature is absolutely meaningless. 😂🤣

        • +3

For anyone not getting the jokes, Temu and Ali Express storage devices are 99% fake with false claims.
The memory controller will permit writing huge amounts of data but data beyond the first few hundred MB does not actually get written and is lost.

Don't buy storage media from these places.

Now great for micro NAS with few of these (my 1st NAS had 2* 2TB ;)

    • Meanwhile Samsung still only making 512GB microSD..

      update:
Looks like they are gonna release 1TB soon

  • +13

THEY MAKE 1.5TB NOW FOR REAL?

    • +5
      • +1

2TB in my modded switch, yes please. Might get around to finally updating it when the last games for Switch 1 come out. Ran out of willpower to keep up with the scene years ago.

        • Yep 512gb mine almost full modded switch

          • @CyberMurning: My 512GB is permanently full. With 1.5TB, I can definitely make sure my kids are bored, cos the selection of games simply isn't enough… Apparently

            • @Ulysses31: Once you put each variation of Pokemon games on there that alone uses a lot of room. Then the first party games and you're practically full. 2TB would give some breathing room.

        • What kinds of neat stuff can you put on a modded switch? Bunch of ROMS or…?

          • +2

@JownehFixIT: Yeah, free games. Pokemon hacking is fairly easy if that's your thing. There's probably some home-brew that's worth looking at, I wouldn't know.

            • @AustriaBargain: how to mod my v1 switch and or my oled switch ?? ik v1 doesn't required to mod chip maybe a paperclip tho but oled is harder right ? what do

              • @AndrewMTG: I'm so far out the scene I wouldn't know. I'm still using SXOS and Bowser has been in prison for years.

                • @AustriaBargain: Lol wtf yeh rip bowser … srsly that's he's name tho Lol

Yeah there alike this thing called atmosphere or smth did u mod chip i rmember sxos

              • @AndrewMTG: Dude on etsy modded my oled relatively cheap.

                • @ruddiger7: lol i don't think i sending my switch to some guy on esty but yes i will just watch a utube video I sure it's easier i rmemebr wanting to do it once… do u got oled ?

                  • @AndrewMTG: The seller was ConsolemodsAus. You can look at his reviews on etsy. You dont want to solder one of these yourself. Yeah i had a v1 switch which i softmodded myself and later got a zelda oled switch which this guy modded and now use.

                    • @ruddiger7: but Is it oled model?

Yes so my v1 i can probably mod myself and tbh keep the oled for online game but might mod that cuz yeah the oledd screen is nicer for sure but people apparently u can have like a modded one for modded and then swith to non mod mode so u don't get ban online etc and ye def not solo SOLDERING that I'm not doing. but idk i don't I I'd trust some guy online maybe in person ye but online ?

                      • @AndrewMTG: I must be the odd one out, ours is docked 90% of the time. OLED would be wasted on us.

          • @JownehFixIT: Any game ever released.

            • @Ulysses31: Haha, not on switch hardware, but OK I get the point. I recently got a Miyoo Mini Plus so I get the idea.

        • Can a vanilla switch take 1tb?

      • can't wait to have a dumb nokia phone with 2TB

    • +1

      bruhhh my SSD only 128gb

    • -1

Micron introduced this capacity in 2022. A bit late to the party?

      • +1

Introduced is not the same as mass retail. The price is not the same as well right. Doesn't mean anything.

  • +10

I just noticed you can save 6% off the order when buying 2 eligible items, this 1.5tb card is one of the eligible items.
I had a quick play with this promo and quickly added a random $10 book. It took my total order total to $186 shipped for both the book and SD card. If you can find a cheaper eligible item you'll save more.

    • +6

This is the OzBargainer way: buy an extra $10 book you neither want or need to save $2. Love it!

      • PFFT HAHA

      • +1

You can also return the book to save the full $10 but you might end up feeling kind of sad about yourself.

        • +1

Imagine using a phone without a SD card slot.

    • +11

So any Galaxy S series since 2021 onwards?

    • +9

But then how would pay hundreds of dollars for an extra 128GB of storage. 😕

    • +9

      So nearly every new flagship?

      • +2

Damn that really put things in perspective.

Although really, the speeds on integrated memory is far faster

        • +2

It's not faster if you don't have enough space (eg.8K videos ;) - ask iPhone users

          • @taki: Fortunately the latest models can now use an external drive for video capture, at least.

        • though, what do you need that's 1.5tb and needs integratedspeeds?

  • +2

What a time to be alive.

    • +1

      by Fall Out Boy

  • Amazing that it's 1.5TB. But man those speeds.

  • at some point the increased capacity would be a bit of a liability due to reliability and read/write time no?

  • +1

Its gonna take 41 hours to fill that thing.

  • +3

    13 hours of 4k corn 🤩

    • a few hrs of 8k prones

  • +2

Good price but Ultras are slow af. I'd wait for the Extreme/Extreme Pro version.

  • +1

Huh, TIL 1.5TB storage is actually a thing. Always thought it needs to be multiple of 2

    • 1500 is a multiple of 2, 2x750

      • +2

        750 isn't tho. By Multiple of 2s I meant 2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512,1024,2048,…etc

        • +2

          750 is a multiple of 2, 2x 375

But yes I know what you meant, just tongue in cheek. It's very unlikely to be exactly 1,500,000,000,000 bytes. Just some configuration of chips that gets close.

    • Inside they glue a 512gb to a 1tb

  • +10

This fingernail sized thing has over 1M times the storage of the floppy disk I used to takes assignments to school on.
    Wild.

    • Which version of floppy you used? I used both 5" and 3" in school computer lab. Still remeber when they have gave away virus effected one we use to unbox them and feel like geeks

      • The 8-inch floppy disk drive with removable read-only, flexible "memory disks” offered a storage capacity of 80 kilobytes (KB), approximately 3,000 punched cards.

    • Losing a fingernail 'clipping' nowadays,
      means losing 1.5TB !

  • +2

not many gadgets can take beyond 1tb make sure you check yours can take beyond 1 tb

    • Not entirely true. Vendors usually set the max size to be whatever the maximum is on the market so they dont open themselves up to drama later. If it works with 1tb then it should be fine for larger (when it is manufactured)

      • +3

There are breakpoints where a new standard was introduced:

        • SD: Up to 2 GB
        • SDHC (2006): >2 GB to 32 GB
        • SDXC (2009): >32 GB to 2 TB
        • SDUC (2019): >2 TB to 128 TB

Most things recent-ish should be SDXC. We probably won't be seeing SDUC support for a good many years, possibly never for some device types - it's not like there's huge demand for >2 TB in this form factor.

Even now some devices that only advertise support for 32 GB or less might still only support SDHC and might not work with >32 GB cards.

  • Crazy capacity these days for the size how good, affordable too

  • What about TBW? I would be really sad losing this much photos from my mobile , as, obviously, I won't pay for cloud backup of this size .

    • I would say for the purpose of storing your phone's photos, inconsequential. At least if my use case is similar to you, I take heaps of photos on my Note20 and 256GB card is still not full nearly 2 years later. So 1.5TB would go a long way at being filled, then emptied, then filled again etc. before you hit the write limit of the memory.

      • Or it will die in a month with photos from my vacation. Reliability is important regardless of how full it is.

        • That might be, except I'm not familiar with exact reasons as to why some cards die right away and others don't. For reference I've had another microSD card in another phone working perfectly for maybe couple of years, and it just stopped. I could still copy files off it, but it's impossible to format it. Anyway all that to say read the reviews when they come out, I just don't think TBW is the only measure in reliability for these things.

  • +3

Be nice when latest samsung smartphones come with microsd slot…

  • If your phone supports expandable storage, use this card to backup your photography camera photos or videos in the field, as long as both have USB-C and you brought a cable.

I thought they had reached the limit for how small transistors could get years ago, somehow they're finding ways to cram more of them in…

    • +1

CERN found another dimension, so they stick 'em in there.
Hopefully it doesn't let the demons through…

    • Humans reached limit. It's AI turn

    • I thought they had reached the limit for how small transistors could get years ago

It is hard to make the transistors smaller but they can build it in layers like how HDD are able to increase capacity with more platters

"Samsung created the 1 TB microSD card by stacking eight layers of its 8-gen V-NAND technology"
