Last time it was 15% off which only expired 3 weeks ago so not really a bargain. More like using OzB for free advertising.

    • +3

Couldn't agree more… If every other week is a "sale" then that is more like the normal price.

No deal here because at this point, the "sales" prices are the "normal" prices. Just the usual practice of advertising than sharing a genuine deal.

      • +4

Oh, and now that I have had a chance to sit down and look… Cheaper elsewhere… Type 2 cables on eBay are way cheaper, some almost $70 cheaper. Same goes for most of the EVSE granny blocks.

And pretty tacky doing a "1 day sale" and using "ANZAC" as your code… Definitely something our diggers were fighting for, cheap(er) EV charging accessories.

I am really starting to despise this whole "OzBargain is a soft target for advertising your pop-up, garage based, mum/dad-preneur, side hustle, Alibaba bulk buying business ventures" spamming these boards."

        • -4

Very disrespectful of you to suggest our people were fighting for cheap EV charging accessories. Let me say it again, in your unfounded anger over nothing, that not even remotely affect your life, you became very disrespectful. They fought for your freedom of choice which now you take it for granted. If you despise the site, you are welcome to leave, and don't need to announce as well.

            • @WatchNerd: We thank you for your feedback and agree that this is an error on us, we will remove this code immediately.

              • @John Lam: It appears you owe member @pegaxs an apology as well?

                • @WatchNerd: We apologies to pegaxs as well.

                    @John Lam:

in your unfounded anger over nothing

It isn’t “unfounded anger”, (it’s not even “anger”), the fact is that I have current and past family that are/were part of the defence force. I live in an area surrounded by defence force personnel, 3 of my 4 surrounding neighbouring properties are defence force personnel, my in-laws are survivors of the Vietnam War, so I’m sorry, but this type of thing does affect my life.

And while I deeply appreciate the sacrifices that my family, friends and neighbours have made for my country and their own, I am pretty sure they didn’t do it so people could piggyback onto their legacy to sell some plastic shit made in China.

And for the record, I don’t “despise this site”, I said that what I despise is the almost unchecked blatant advertising. OzBargain has become the dumping ground for advertising.

Added to that, you have no right at all to tell me, a long standing, contributing member of this community, nor any one else, that “if you don’t like it, leave”, and on top of that, this is an open forum, and if I want to announce anything, I damn well will.

There is a lot to be said for diplomacy and being respectful to users, and your current trajectory of being disrespectful to myself and to others will see you lumped in with the likes of Mr. Pepnimble and Mr. Uggs Australia.

We are not here as your own personal advertising dumping ground and it is a free forum for the exchange of ideas, and I suggest that if you can’t handle any criticism, either say nothing, or you can feel free to “leave”.

While I acknowledge your attempt at an apology, I’m not entirely convinced that is was genuine, so I’ll reserve that opinion until I am satisfied that you have actually taken this onboard and learned from it.

OP appears to be targeting sheep

  • Any pointers to a better price, if someone is aware. I am after the extra cable and the plug in home connector

    • +2

The "extra cable" and a "plug in home connector"??? That is all a bit vague.

"Extra cable": Are you looking for just a simple type 2 to type 2 cable to put in the car for any charger you encounter out in the wild that requires a BYO cable? Do you want a 7kW (single phase) or 22kW (3 phase) cable (ie: what does your car support?). If so, there are HEAPS of them on eBay for about $50+ less than OP has them on their website ($130~$160 on eBay. $206 + freight from inchargex. Also; InB4 before the maniacal screeching about "R Tick compliance" on what is essentially an extension cable.)

"Plug in home connector": Are you talking about the EVSE box you plug into the wall and then into your car? What plug do you have at home? 10a, 15a, 20a, 32a, single or 3 phase plug? Are you looking at something portable or wall mounted? As for price, there is so much variation, I would need to know more before I could fine an alternative that would suit your needs.

      • Since you offered I might hijack this with my own questions, so I’m thinking of getting a EV, and I’m happy to slowly charge using your usual wall socket at home.

So would I just need a 10a single phase wall charger, and how do I judge which ones are good or not, and what’s the difference between the ones out there on the market?

I see $300ish ones like this.

        Or $100ish ones like this

Or even cheaper ones from Ali express etc…

        They all seem same same…

Additional, if I need to use an extension cord, I’d say, I airbnb some house with no wall socket within 5m, do I need to invest in a quality extension cord as I would probably charge for 10hours+?

I know these questions are so noob…

        • Yeah you'll need some EVSE that plugs into a 10A socket.
          That $100 one is a 16A one, it won't fit a normal 10A socket.

Have done the airbnb extension cord, it's a legitimate strategy
          .
Definitely get a heavy duty non-sketchy extension cord, it will get warm with long charges and if the internal crimps are crap those will heat up first. I got some bunnings ones with clear moulded plugs so I can see any scorching inside the plug, it'll show up as a brown spot inside (don't ask how I know). Ensure the plugs are pushed in all the way if using an extension cord or that'll be a hot spot too. Had an incident last week with one of those indoor aircon units cooking the extension cord it was plugged into because it wasn't all the way in.

You'll probably be fine with a cheapo charger? Probably a good idea to get one with the RCM tick, just in case it burns down the insurers will be checking for that :D I don't know, I got the name brand gear. Buy it once, buy it right etc. There's nothing to these EVSEs, just some relays and protection gear. It's disgusting how expensive some if it goes for.

          • @korda:

Yeah you'll need some EVSE that plugs into a 10A socket.
            That $100 one is a 16A one, it won't fit a normal 10A socket.

wow thanks, Im glad i ask these questions as I probably would have bought the wrong one.

Where did you buy yours from, and do you recommend any physical/online stores that's both reputable and reasonably priced?

            • @cloudy: My car's old, it still came with the Tesla mobile charger and hpwc wallbox.
KHONS gear has a good reputation, see past bargain.
EEVBlog did a teardown of a real cheapie and was impressed, so that hopefully boosts confidence in the cheap gear. The cheapies have screens on them which is nice, you can monitor the charging and set currents etc.

This isn't legal advice, but you're probably fine with a cheap to mid price one. They're all the same in the end, the parts/cable/plug quality would be the difference. The Tesla one is $550 but the charge port button on the handle is worth it if you have a Tesla IMO and don't want to muck around.

              • @korda: Yea I was thinking, my cheap ozbargain brain says go cheap, I’m likely to be setting it to draw the lowest level of power anyway given my tiny solar system and only needing to charge it around 10% a day. On the odd occasion where I drive 150km, I’ll just use a public one.

                I looked at KHONS on Ali, I couldn’t see a 10amp type2 granny… or am I blind?

                • @cloudy: Figure out what you want to do first, excess solar charging or just granny charging.
You could spend some more money and get a Zappi or similar which can talk to your solar and charge only on excess solar. Depends on your existing solar setup.
Or if you have time of use electricity billing you can schedule your charging during cheap hours. I don't have solar or battery so I just do this.
Ugh, that specific khons one requires an adapter from 32A to 10A (listed under the Color), that was not the best example.

Negging because of the frequency of these deals just makes it seem like constant advertising.

  • We appreciate all your comments everyone. However it is very strange, we posted discount, people missed out or item run out of stock and sent private message asking for deal, we wait for couple of weeks when our items are back in stock to post discount again for people who missed out before to take advantage then people coming and say deal frequency is too close and deals are not genuine and give negative vote. Last time we check we didn't violate any policy of the site itself so why all the negativities. But we heard you loud and clear all the negative peeps. We will be cautious and refrain from posting deals on here 👍

Disgraceful. The ANZAC name is not to be leveraged for your commercial gain. It's still visible in the OP!

  • +3

Looking at the evidence provided above looks like to be a case of (tacky) ozADVERTISING as opposed to an actual BARGAIN.
